Enjoyed the heck out of that. Was going to ask if Rochelle was a quiet zone, you answered that earlier. Neat see that coal in the cars. can't see that at street level.
Nice drone footage. The video also would have been good from the ground perspective. That is an excellent location for what I assume is a railfanning park.
Shots from the park itself are actually kinda meh in my honest opinion. Too many poles, no good sightlines. Great place to watch but not really for high-quality images or videos.
Delightful drone footage well done. You made it look like you were simply floating, or perhaps on a very tall tower. BTW, I seem to recall you use PowerDirector 13. I do too. If you have the top level version (Director's Suite), there is a NewBlue plugin that comes with the package called New Blue Video Tuneup Plus, in the New Blue Video Essentials VII. Marvelous tool and can do truly amazing things with otherwise dark footage. It has a series of built-in "scopes." I find the Waveform scope the most useful. It allows you to use the brightness and contrast control to spread the levels out from black to white and set the midtones too. You only have to do it once for each segment you use. If you later split the segment, the segments retain the adjustments. Anyway, just a tip from one PDR13 user to another. BTW, are you certain you're at least five miles from that airport?
Yeah...I don't have the highest tier. I try to focus more on shooting things right the first time. Here what you saw was the effect of a partly cloudy day...simply unable to keep everything looking its best without constantly changing the shutter rate...so I chose to set via the sun, leaving cloudy times admittedly darker.
Yes, the sound is native from the trains in each clip. I always record sound on the ground when flying and then match the two clips together. Every once and awhile I have to do a little bit of cut/remix but its rare and I always strive to be as accurate as possible with it - at least use sound from the same place and time! A few drone videographers don't follow this sort of thinking, and I find it sad because sound is just as important to the overall feel as the images.
This is a very interesting perspective! I was here once about a year after it opened and loved it. But haven't been able to get back there. Did I see a NS engine? How did they get on there?
Great video! FYI keep a vigilant eye if you continue to fly here. I asked and was told the city banned drone use in this area. True or not, idk but I figured it wasn't worth the hassle. Still, good catches!
That's interesting. I didn't hear anything about that until now. Not likely that the city could do much to control drone flights in the town, since airspace is under the Feds and the FAA and not local government. I suppose they could prevent take-offs from the park, but not much they can do once you're in the air, so long as the FAA's rules are followed.
Huh. Well I'm willing to bet they told you no because you asked, seeing as the above. You'd figure that they'd have posted it in their park rules, as well. At any rate, I flew a ton over two days and never heard a thing about it.
I'm just not aware of any precedent for a city to limit drone usage, since aviation falls under Federal jurisdiction. And there doesn't appear to be any news or information online about it.
Rochelle has been a quiet zone for a few years now. Note that a few trains will give a toot or two for railfans, but otherwise unless the crossing malfunction or life is apparently in danger, the horns are silent.
Had to stay up high due to too much radio/telecom interference closer to the ground, unfortunately. Below 200' it was pretty hard to control, especially once the heavier winds were factored in. I would have liked to get in closer for more of these shots, but the weather and our obsession with 4G LTE wasn't going to let it happen so easily!
Rochelle sucks I would Be Honking all the time in the city Bite me I am a train and If someone does not stop or see me I am going to Honk there sue me !
Absolutely fantastic video of Rochelle from high above, magnificent
Always wondered what was around re park area--thanks for the new view.
It's like looking at the ultimate scale model railroad. Amazing.
Wow...great footage. I love stopping in Rochelle on my way home from Chicago.
Absolutely love this drone look, Thank you for posting. Now I know what's beyond the diamond after the rail park.
Very very Nice. Thanks for sharing my friend. I have plans to go up to Rochelle next month (October). Happy Railfanning!!!
Cool. I never knew there was another connection between the railroads on the east side of town.
Very nice job. Thank you

Thoroughly enjoyed the video of my favourite railfanning spot. Shame about the cloud cover .
I USE TO LIVE IN FLAGG CENTER IN BETWEEN THE RAILROAD TRACKS NORTH SIDE OF ROAD. Lots has changed since 2002
Awesome video!!!!
Really awesome video!
Very nice!
nice. awesome video. sweet catches.
yes love it big, thanks for sharing
What I beautiful place. I would love to live there. In South Africa, train lines are dump spots riddled with crime😢
Superb video. Superb.
Dang!!! 3 AC6000s on the UP coal train! Nice catch
The stacks are capped...they were heading into storage looks like.
Thornapple River Rail Series still, nice catch
Indeed.

Yes it is an excellent location
This sick drone footage would be perfect for building a Trainz Route.....
I'M GONNA DO IT!!! THANKS!!! :D
Excellent drone coverage! Sucks that this place is a quiet zone now.
I agree.

Had to stop with that thunderstorm coming.
Very cool.
Not sure if you added the train sound in the background or not? But it was better than listening to music. Thanks for the video.

Well I thank you for the extra effort.

Just ordinary power sharing according to horsepower hours accounts for the foreign power here.
Great video!

Yes I was at the park when I asked. No big deal though. I planned on flying outside of town, but got caught up chasing things back and forth.
Huh. Well I'm willing to bet they told you no because you asked, seeing as the above. You'd figure that they'd have posted it in their park rules, as well. At any rate, I flew a ton over two days and never heard a thing about it.
Sometimes, it is better to ask forgiveness than ask for permission - but then again after second thought, hefty fine / citation is worse

Bummer. Next time can you go out to the industries? Show us the interchange traffic? Burlington junction? Switching out the industries??
Thx
Nice footage! It would be even better with horns.
I'd prefer it without the quiet zone, too
Actually, if you haven't already, you should check this out: www.change.org/p/city-of-rochelle-stop-the-quiet-zone-in-rochelle-il
nice
horn??

South Holland is supposed to be that way too, but horns are still heard now and then
Too bad no BNSF ran through when you shot this, though a trio of UP, CSX, and BNSF did go through
not much to look at once you get past the "OH THAT'S NEAT" aspect of it. It is a new perspective but the details are to far away.
