Having talent is one thing Kirkland had talent he had a gift a unnatural ability to avoid punches hands low speed of foot and hand
Unfortunately he did t have the ability to keep grounded keep dedicated easily led away from boxing to party and spend the hardest money ever earnt with fair weather friends one of England greatest never to earn a world title such a shame and now he’s lost his last ever battle such a shame that less talented fighters earn 5 times what he did but then again he would of had 5x the fair weather friends 5x the money to loose
All I can say is god bless thank you and rest in peace no more rounds to answer x

Dave Charnley and Alan Rudkin were arguably the best post-war British fighters never to win world titles. Rudkin had to travel abroad for all his world title shots. He was very unlucky not to get the decision against Lionel Rose and also gave Fighting Harada an excellent fight. Charnley was also desperately unlucky in his second fight with Joe Brown. Rudkin and Charnley's achievements are sadly overlooked by British fight fans.

Laing was an awesome talent, those that say otherwise baffle me, he just happened to be unlucky enough to be around at the same time as Colin Jones, who is also under rated, a great era of welterweight boxing.

Kirkland Laing, lloyd Honeygan and Herol Graham were the best British boxers of all time.

This is so sad!! Kirk was so talented with so much potential. But he was a tormented soul who just couldn’t settle his mind into long term discipline.
What a shame to waste such talent and opportunity. 😭😢☹️
Excellent documentary made as discussed. It should Kirkland was a nice guy.
RIP Champ… you don’t need to fight those demons anymore.

Herol was at least as good, and always turned up in shape, so on that basis, you could give it to him, but there was never anything on his record to rival a win over Duran. That was Laings shining moment; Graham would have had to beat Hagler to exceed it, really.

Got to go with the poster who mentions Herol Graham as the best not to win a title.Laing was very good, very entertaining and Ive no doubt he had it in him to be world champ but I think Herol was better all round and what about Colin Jones,he beat Laing if Im not mistaken.

Most journalists are in it because they get to meet their heroes and wanted to be in the same game as their subjects but didnt have the talent.

Peerless Jim Driscoll is the best British fighter never to win a world title. There is a statue of him in Cardiff. Jim beat the World Featherweight champ in a non title fight..

Bounce the dunce. It’s amusing to see his attempt at sounding profound. The documentary was crap. The thoughtful pause before repeated insignificance. I left Kirk.......I left Kirk.........I bet he wishes he was never found. Imagine having a drug and alcohol abuse problem and some bald headed prick turns up out of the blue, along with his ego and reminds you that you could have been a great, but then wanders off and leaves you sitting there, just as the renewed desire to write the book starts to bubble. He could have at least volunteered to ghost write it for him. No doubt dedicating the first half to himself, as sole inspiration for Kirk to do it.
Good luck to you Kirk. Book or not.

Grow up leonaofficial! Stop posting infantile responses to comments I make. How dare you insult British boxing legends such as Charnley and Rudkin. Either you are about ten years of age, a syber stalker or have a serious drink problem.

Herol Graham was arguably as least as talented. Unfortunately he moved up to MW and met Julian Jackson

A great fighter? Probably the greatest Briton never to win a world title? (Ever heard of Owen Moran?) Only someone who knows nothing about boxing would make these comments. Laing was talented no doubt but that's all. He is not even remotely approaching anything like a great fighter. Nothing against Kirkland but please Steve Bunce say no more you're embarrassing yourself.
