    really happy to have found your channel! I'm a fellow eductaor and taught a few courses on ambisonics/binaural stereo two years ago at Bauhaus University Weimar. truthfully, I was mainly learning on the job and the more curious students came along for the ride. it's crazy how far we've gotten in that time but I still wish that headtracking of ANY AVAILABLE KIND were available to use in Nuendo (or better) as DAW-agnostic plugin. for VR-work, DearVR is amazing, especially with a separate PC to run Unreal.
    keep up the great job, looking forward to more advanced content. do you like the IEM suite?

      (except NX with NX Headtracker but I really would like to use Control Room)

      I hear you. Every time I look at the options in the head tracker setup of Nuendo it annoys me that none of the options is really useful for pure audio production. Why? And why did Waves never upgrade to higher orders. It seems such a straightforward thing to implement.
      I was very excited when the Audeze Mobius headset first came out. I think I had unit #19. The first units had serious noise floor issues which they later fixed. Unfortunately, as I later found out, the tracking system used in that headset is problematic and does not work particularly well. And this is probably why their initial claim to make it compatible with the Waves NX plugin never materialized. That would have been a nice one!
      I have to like the IEM suite. I am Austrian by birth and the IEM plugin suite has been developed at an Austrian University. Lol. But seriously, I think it is a really nice piece of software. It is free and most of the commercial equivalents cost and arm and a leg.

      @@michaelgwagner thanks for the heads-up on the Audeze headphones. my last foray into 3D Headphones was the nightmare that was the Ossic X kickstarter. I am curious about the new PS5 headset. It's weird how even audio pros don't realize that headtracking can make or break whether binaural decoding from multichannel works for you. :)

    I'm so much looking forward to your future videos! Will you be implementing your explanations regarding the game audio topic primarily using Nuendo for the DAW?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад +2

      I will actually be fairly DAW agnostic in the game audio videos, primarily because my regular students have a very diverse background when it comes to music production. Some are experienced in using Pro Tools, others might not even have used a DAW before. I plan, however, to go over the Nuendo Game Audio Connect feature towards the end of the upcoming game audio series.

    Hey Michael thanks for your answering in the video, your suggestion to use AMBI MICRO works great, and now I like it more than DearVR Monitor. DearVR Monitor sounds too roomy even when I use in Analytic Dry type, which the manual says it is a profile with no reflections and room response at all, so I don't know where the roomy sound comes from.
    I'm trying to get to the point where I have a fair binaural monitoring to mix in dolby atmos just as good as the Dolby Atmos Production Suite, I invested some money doing the crossgrade from Cubase to Nuendo and buying the Dolby Atmos Production Suite now is not affordable at this moment to me. Thanks for the AMBI MICRO tip.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад +2

      You're welcome. Btw, if you are on a Windows system, the license to the Dolby Atmos Production Suite (the one that you would buy from Avid) does not allow you to use the renderer from the Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite on Windows (which is the only one that works on Windows). I tried that. On a Mac, on the other hand, a license for the Production Suite does give you access to the external renderer of that suite. It is my understanding that the renderer that comes with the Mastering Suite is the cinema version, whereas the render that is included in the Production Suite is the home theater version (afaik with functionality identical to the internal renderer in Nuendo).

      Michael. First of all, thank you so much for the lessons. A question. In "Renderer for Dolby Atmos" I set the downMix to 2.0 and made a basic mastering sequence via insert right below "Renderer for dolby Atmos. I exported the Audio via Atmos Bus and the Binaural sounds pretty acceptable. Sound sounds pretty cool. did I do something wrong? Thank you very much for your attention.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад +1

      @@gutotx The mastering chain will not have an effect on the BWF WAV output of the Dolby Atmos Renderer, only on what comes out of the Atmos Bus. If that is what you are aiming for than that's ok.

      Thank you so much, Michael! You have certainly helped us a lot. I made the master chain on the Atmos Bus channel to have a binaural .wav file with more sound pressure without needing a decoder like Ambi Micro. I did a few more tests and the object movement is pretty immersive. It seems like a good strategy to get a simple binaural file. But I already learned from your last video that to have the LFE we'll need a decoder or use the control room to render.

    Thank you for your fantastic videos Micheal, you've shared so much information that is difficult to find anywhere else. Do you know of a way (mac or pc) to playback or proof the ADM BWF wav file after exporting from the Nuendo's Dolby Atmos renderer? It would be reassuring to preview the file outside of Nuendo before, say, sending it off to a distributor or client.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад

      You can always reimport the ADM BWF back into Nuendo. If I remember correctly that is the way Steinberg shows testing of ADM files in one of their tutorials. I have honestly not tried it yet, but the VLC Media Player should be able to play Dolby Atmos content.

    Greetings. It's me again. Have you ever listened to what Soundcloud does to an ADM file uploaded from Cubase? Don't waste your time. As a tactic for dealing with this, I have used the set up you describe here for monitoring Atmos Bus to Audio Out. But I then export the audio to a file using the Cubase Export menu options (rather than the ADM Export.) The results are OK but based on preliminary reading of the dearVR AMBI manual and the menu options in the plugin I'm wondering if the output is Stereo or Binaural? My preference is to produce binaural output from an Atmos rig; what I've described is what I've come up with. Perhaps there is or are better alternatives? I guess the easy answer it to insert a IEM binaural decoder in the AmbiBus rather than the dearVR AMBI... but that is more fiddling and error prone.

    What head tracking devices work with the dearVR Ambimicro or the built-in Ambidecoder? Did you try the one you showed earlier int he video?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад

      DearVR Ambimicro does not work with head tracking directly. There is a possibility to connect it with the DearVR Spatial Connect solution, but that is a completely different animal altogether. I might cover that in a future video but the fact that this needs to be recorded in VR makes it a bit of a challenge to produce a watchable video.
      The built in Ambidecoder also only works primarily with VR Headsets. There is supposed to be a possibility to connect a head tracker through OSC. But there is no documentation about that and I also did not find anybody who successfully used an OSC server based head tracker with Nuendo or Cubase. If anybody out there knows how to do this, I would be highly interested in learning more!

    Kindly respond regarding one basic doubt , if you create a bed in Atmos environment I heard it should enable first 10 channels of the renderer so that we can have a fixed sound placement for all the tracks assaigned to the beds , In your video it's just L and R channels enabled in beds
    My humble understanding till now is only if all the 10 channels are active while using beds then only we could fix their permanant position
    Pls reply regarding this and pls correct me if am wrong 👍❤️

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад +1

      You can use any format up to 10 channels as a bed. Obviously, if you choose a stereo track as a bed it will remain stereo in Atmos. If you mix into a bed bus which you then assign to the Atmos renderer, you would usually chose to max out the channels and use a 7.1.2 bus. I have a second video about this coming out tomorrow in which I set it up that way with a 7.1.2 bed bus.

      Wow thank you
      Looking forward to watch that next video , with reference to your information in one video today I tried to mix a song in Dolby Atmos with Dear vr monitor and it is really good and less complicated routing ,kindly test that and post your detailed video
      Is there an option to export the Atmos session as MP4 ( I use this option in the Standalone Atmos renderer ) which gives good reference than binaural file exports , the size is also small and easy to send to client for hearing
      Can we use the same technique with nuendo integrated renderer ?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  3 года назад

      As far as I know Nuendo can only export in BWF WAV format. You would have to use a converter or go with the external renderer.
