    Sooo nice!! We used to park the cars in Bergville on our hiking trips. Eventually carried our engagement ring there as well! ❤ I think I might need to order that print!!❤

    Stunning images Alex and another excellent video. Really liked that image you showed briefly, the one showing the mountain with the hole in it, great composition and layers. The image with the river is great also as that light in the background really draws the eye into the scene. A large print would be effective to show that off. Of course those last images with the hot air balloon are beautiful. I would be interested in a video on how you deal with greens and another video going indepth of the edit on the scene including the river would be appreciated to. Thank you again for taking us on this journey in the Drakensberg.

      Thanks John - annoyingly that image is slightly soft because it was an extremely windy morning (and it’s at 200mm) and by the time I had corrected my settings the light had passed!
      And yes, I think that second image needs to be printed relatively large. I might put it up in my kitchen actually!
      One of the tricky things with editing videos is I’m likely to do a course over the winter, and I think I’d like to keep some of the ‘higher level’ info for that!

      @@alexnail I for one would be interested in a course from you. Going by the standard of videos and content that you put up on RUclips your course of higher level material would be of great interest. As Adam Gibbs said this video was a 'Master Class in complex scenes'. Take care.

    Superb set of images. Being a photographer that concentrates on minimal images, I appreciated the wonderful complexity of of the second image you showed, and enjoyed the juxtaposition of shapes, colors and living/dead foliage, in the 1st image you showed, but that gap in the clouds, just wow. The latter images, what a view. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks! I actually have that written down as a video idea but the truth is it can be a little difficult actually doing a planned video like this when I’m outdoors, because I am still prioritising the photography itself. But I might do something from the office on the technical side.

    Those last 2 images really were a brucy bonus... the vista looked wonderful through your video camera. Top notch video Alex. Just an observation on your complex scene you said had a luke warm respoinse from your group - kinda got that myself from watching the video although when you zoomed in that light in the far distance was totally captivating - all personal choice of course but I think I would have found myself dismissing the foreground interest through lack of light - just me I suppose though. atb Al

      Yeah I think at the end of the day it’s a matter of personal taste and a question of what you want the image to say. Shooting light beams on a distant landscape is great of course, but I’ve done it quite a lot and it’s nice to do something different!

    Would really like to know how you manage to focus stack AND exposure blend with the wind cranking throughout ? Can't get my head around that .

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  Год назад

      If the motion crosses the blend boundary then you can’t really, but if you have good overlaps then it’s not too much of a problem, not least because motion blur in grasses etc masks a bit of imperfection

    This is a dream! I have to wonder about the expense of trips like these, are they deductible as business expenses for a photography business?

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  Месяц назад +1

      I suppose it would depend on the business, but as a landscape photographer if I go away to take photos of the landscape then every aspect of that trip is deductible. Obviously, that can make what someone in an office job considers a 'holiday taking photos' a work trip in my case.

    • @rebeldown771

      @@alexnail Good to know! Was this particular expedition a workshop or just a group of friends? I'd sure like to meet some friends like these.

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  Месяц назад +1

      @@rebeldown771 it was a trip that I arranged for photographers that I've hiked with before or who are friends. It wasn't a workshop and recording videos on my workshops is very much down to the clients and the available time.
      It took me many years to find different groups of like-minded people!

      @@alexnailone day I hope! At 7:35, you talk about the process to get the photo (multiple shots with multiple exposures/focusing), could you make a video on how to do this in the field and then in post processing? This is something I’d like to work on, I’ve noticed that my images are improperly exposed in some areas and not tack sharp throughout the image. The concept makes sense but the execution I’m still struggling with ☺️
