At the end of the day, the "Bible alone" people really mean "their interpretation of the Bible alone."

Yes, you are RIGHT, but it is still more reliable than listening to the church leaders who have curried favor with the powers of the world and no longer have the Holy Spirit in them.
Jesus Christ already made us aware that many will come in his name....

@@isabelleskiss And you can infallibly declare that they no longer have the Holy Spirit, yet conveniently, you do have the Holy Spirit? It seems very convenient to me that whoever disagrees with you must not have the Holy Spirit. And it is certainly impossible for you to ever be deceived by another spirit that is not of God. Very convenient.
This is a dangerous way of thinking, my friend. The demons are far more intelligent and ancient than you or I am, you cannot imagine yourself to be smarter than them. No one is immune to the sin of pride, which is the root of all sins. Demons can deceive those who are filled with pride. Self-assurance. You are certain of your own interpretations and understandings over the collective wisdom of 2000 years of Christians. That is pride. Christianity is marked by a life of repentance and self-denial. Through this, we learn humility and we learn to lean on God, and not on ourselves. But it is not something that comes easily, and you cannot expect to be able to guide yourself through the spiritual life. We all need a guide. If your guide is immaterial (i.e., you allow yourself to be led by a spirit you believe to be the Holy Spirit), you are open to deception. You are not incapable of being deceived.

It's the Spirit's work in scripture, in the church (Christ's people), and in each of us. All three in balance are necessary for the Spirit to accomplish his ends. Overemphasis on any one leads to hindrances to the Spirit's moving.
Denominational polities are the tools he has used in history and culture in this age to preserve the gospel, but they are not the goal.
The goal is the perfect Kingdom when Christ returns in glory.
Our job here and now is to trust in the Lord simply in all things, to love and do good works of service in fellowship with our community.

You need Scripture, Reason, Tradition, and Experience. But Experience is the most important category, and the one that we are least aware of. Reason is a close second. But the churches answer to different questions will vary depending on time/place/denomination. At the end of the day truth is the only authority. Not the "bible alone" or the church.

@@johnmackie9498 Paul’s road to Damascus conversion was an Experience. Experience includes but is not just emotions. But for better or for worse, our subjective experience is the main reason people believe what they believe. People interpret the Bible based on the denomination they grew up in, or whatever person they personally choose to be authoritative. This is why we have so many different denominations/religions. I agree we have to try to see past our experiential biases, and appeal to reason.

The Church's faith, that was once for all delivered to the saints, is not based on Scripture. Rather, it's based on the Gospel, that is who Jesus Christ is, what He's done, and what He expects of us. The Scriptures bear witness and attest to the faith of the Church, but they are not the basis of it.

    • @mrtheology2069

@@justanotherlikeyou without the Scriptures you would have no foundation for your faith.... you are still destroying your own argument... One would not know about Jesus without scripture... One would not have traditions without scripture... One could not explain who Jesus was without scripture... If Scripture bears witness to the faith of the church, the church got it's faith and traditions from interpreting scripture....
Without scripture, the church could not claim any authority whatsoever....

Sex isnt evil, marriage is Gods condescension to man for our benefit. You can choose whether or not you want to be married, marriage is a sacrement that can aid in salvation. You also have the free will to choose monasticism or priesthood. The nazarenes and St John the baptist were like monastics, and if you knew anything about the life of The Theotokos she herself was like a nun living in the temple. You dont have to deprive yourself of everything fun, you just need to make sure you have balance and arent controlled by anything..
