    I love your focus on experimentation - when there’s too much of an obsession with always taking a “good photo” we can really lose out on exploring the limits and capabilities of a camera.

      Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Then again blank rolls do break the heart and wallet...

    My G690 arrives today, so I had to come back here to watch this a third (maybe fourth?) time in anticipation 😂. Good stuff - thanks for making this!

      I’m so pumped for you! Which model did you end up getting? Are you thinking about just using it for those large 6x9 medium format shots? Or you thinking about doing panoramas too?

      @@northwestdepressed Thank you! I got the BLP as well, with the 100mm kit lens to start. And yeah - all of the above! I kind of wanted the versatility of taking one camera into the field in limited situations whether the compos I find work best in 2:3, 4:5, 6:7, 16:9, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 etc. Heck, I can stick this thing on my pano head and digitally stitch two frames between the spare centimeter for 6x17 making this a poor man’s 617 in addition to an xpan, 670, and 690 all in one lol. The potential waste of cropped 6x9 would take a loooot of rolls to equal the cost of all those form factor bodies!

    • @northwestdepressed
      @northwestdepressed  Год назад +1

      I never even thought of using a pano head for a 6x17 format. You absolute mad man you're gonna make me spend so much more money. I'm already pulling up new tabs investigating this! @@StephenWhitakerImages

      @@northwestdepressed finding the nodal point with a rangefinder might be tricky, but probably worth a try lol. If everything is distant enough, a normal head should suffice. (And if anything - I just saved you the massive delta between a used pano head and a G(X)617-or even a Linhof or Shenhao :P)

      Oh trust me, there's already been long nights of starring at eBay and my bank account debating how to justify a 6x17 camera, that and getting into large format. The bank account never allows it though, hahaha@@StephenWhitakerImages

      @northwestdepressed  Год назад +1

      @Gain N Pixels It's such a great camera! Also, from what everyone has been telling me, the common consensus is that my light seals are bad, so I'll get to fixing that sooner than later, hopefully, hahahaha

  • @Imagezone61
    @Imagezone61 Год назад +1

    Hi. The fact that there are no light leaks on the 120 film seems to indicate that your light seals are bad. The paper backing on the 120 must be blocking the light. A cheap fix luckily. Nice shots regardless.

    • @northwestdepressed
      @northwestdepressed  Год назад

      That’s what I was thinking. I was gonna try shooting it with some gaff tape over the edges first to make sure it was that, but I might just invest in the light seals.
      Like it’s almost a 50 year old camera, if the worst thing about this camera is the light seals, I’ll take it!

    I have the viewfinder for my 65mm, but still have to focus with the regular one. Back & forth. Not ideal.
    Unless you have a masking frame for 35 mm, I would think stray light can get around the edges from the front.
    But if you have leaks with 120 rolls, then it's got to be the back seals.
    I have the GM670 btw. Curtain is intact - knock on wood.
    Enjoyed your shots!
    Cheers!

      @northwestdepressed  Год назад +1

      That's what I was thinking, and the backing paper on the 120 is saving my shots, for now.
      Also, yeah the bobbing from rangefinder to viewfinder has got to be annoying if not frustrating when trying to compose a shot.

    How are you getting the xpan photos? By using 35mm film?

    • @northwestdepressed
      @northwestdepressed  Год назад

      Exactly, I just used some 3D printed adapters and tape the film on to a film leader, made from a roll 35mm film that was sacrificed. I use the sacrificed film leader to create tension on the film before the fresh roll is even out of the canister, shut the back door, advance some more, and fire away. The G690 will produce a panorama that is actually wider than the xpan, so it uses more film, but you get a more wide look as you can see. You can either crop down in post or keep them extra wide.

    • @northwestdepressed
      @northwestdepressed  Год назад

      I wasn't thrilled with it when I did some night shots on it with 35mm, but these medium format shots changed my mind. I still prefer 800T and I have some ideas to shoot 50D in the future, but I'll def buy some more 400D in the future, because I don't hate it.

      Same! Honestly shooting landscape orientation with the G690 I don't mind at all, but as soon as I switch it to vertical I feel like I'm fighting myself to get a solid image.
