- On Friday, April 24th The Trinity Forum hosted Senior Fellow and history professor Dr. Joseph Loconte to discuss the friendship and legacy of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Loconte highlights how their refusal to become disillusioned and disenchanted in the aftermath of World War I allowed for some of the greatest works of literature in modern history. Their example of resilience and imagination is especially inspiring for us in the midst of this pandemic. We were reminded of the surprising return of hope for those who look up-as Samwise Gamgee says "...in the end the shadow was only a small and passing thing. There was light and high beauty forever beyond it's reach."

I'm full of gratitude for this conversation. Cherie Harder is, as always, effortlessly gracious. Dr. Loconte has the enthusiasm of a little boy who has been let loose in a sweet shop. I loved the paradox of listening to someone with a thick New York accent waxing lyrical about two very, very British writers - Tolkien and Lewis - and the way they articulate their Christian understanding of reality through the English character and landscape and the related idea of settlement.
Very good...soul enriching.
