This is SUCH an exciting future for content creators! The thing that has always held me back is the hours and hours of grinding doing video and audio editing the old way.
I'm a little behind on videos to say the least. I just watched this one, which was great. The changes even in the 8 months since you made this are so amazing you could remake this video with Photoshop and do it in less than half the time now! You are right, it is here to stay, whether we like it or not. Thanks, Glyn!
Thank you Glyn. As I am sure you already know. Photoshop Beta has incorporated now most, if not all of the steps that you did with DALLE with its generative crop tool etc and ability to expand am image realistically. I think you are absolutely right that this is not going to be a threat to anybody who truly is creative and has the ability to use it as the tool, the wonderful, amazing toolbox of tools it offers us to help us.
Awesome. I spent the best part of 4 hrs restoring an old portrait of my son-in-law's grandmother, as she'd recently died. I saw Unmesh's video and went over to gfpgan to give it a go. About 30 seconds later it spat out an utterly remarkable renovated version. Absolutely incredible!
Not convinced about Pixbim ... the showcase examples not heir website aren't good. I was tempted to download it but seeing the image examples not heir website turned me off.
Stock photography will become mostly AI. Photographers will have to find other income streams. Already it's difficult enough to tell what's real. AI is being used by students to cheat in essays. Human nature being what it is, it will be used in the worst ways by creating false narratives and criminality. Putin and the CCP are already using it. Next will be music. Why pay any artist, when you can generate AI versions? For every utopian upside, there is potential for a much darker dystopia.
The size enhancement is incredible! It would be unheard of just 8 years ago to get this image quality from a 6x image size. This tech is moving at hyperspeed. But Dall-E still creeps me out. It sometimes reminds me of a child, drawing a scene from a horror film...
I have used AI tools like pixbim object remover ai for restoration and pixbim animate photos ai for animation and I am pretty impressed with AI capabilities. Nice video 🙂.
Just had a look at the pixbim website ... the before / after examples they advertise with are not good at all. The aircraft removal on the beach scene, the 2 children on the beach when one is removed is very clear to see with all the smudging. This can't be the right one surely pixbim.com
@@glyndewis There are two features in pixbim object remover, one is auto AI scratch removal (this is the one I use often for old photo restoration) and the other feature is manual brush tool (the brush tool removes large objects which can cause smudging and this is not of much use) but the auto AI tool is one click and useful. Yes, the link is correct.
Brilliant and certainly not a threat. I had an Uncle way back who told me at the intro of the internet that it would be a very bad thing! We cant argue about the internet now can we? So I feel any advancement in tech of any sort is a huge benefit, Say you did a great job of explaining it all. cheers for showing us.
Loving it Lynda. Yeah making concepts for works / mood boards ... great way to use it. I'm going to be using DALL-E for creating cards from now on for Christmas etc...
Thanks for sharing… I’ve always been a lover of new technology and new advances… my journey is really only just starting in photography and learning photoshop is 🤯🤯🤯 but always up for a challenge… Your videos I find a great insight and engaging so please keep up the great work!!! Thank you!!!
I wanted to write a book for my five year old son but I could not do the graphics right so that the text and pictures were high quality but after joining mid journey I have been able to do it for my great grandson
Great video as always, Glyn. I love the capabilities of AI. For resizing, I use OnOne’s Resize AI, mainly because I used Genuine Fractals soon after it came out and loved how it worked. In 2004 I did a project for the son of the 1950’s tenor Mario Lanza. I was sent several hundred photos to scan and clean up and ended up producing 3 CDs of photos that were sold at the Lanza Museum in Philadelphia to raise money for voice scholarships. I hadn’t learned Photoshop yet and was using Corel’s software. I wish I had Photoshop’s and AI’s capabilities back then.
Love the tutorial. Love AI. I'm in my seventies and been a pro photographer since the age of fifteen. How I would love to come back to earth in fifty years time. So pleasing to listen to guys like you. Thank you.
in 50 yrs' time you won't need to use a camera, the AI will interpret it for you. Sorry, there is no creativity in that in my opinion. For things like photo restoration and sharpening, noise reduction yep ok AI is good and getting better, as for anything else Nah not interested.
Exciting times David. There will always be a need for a camera. /capture device but it's what that device will also be able to do that will be fascinating
This is incredible! We have to embrace it. I think it’s really exciting stuff! I see it as another way to unlock the imagination, can you imagine how empowering AI image generation will be, especially for children! By the way, massive thumbs up from Thomas 👍👍👍😊💯
You gotta embrace the new technology........it's just another tool in your tool box and tools just keep improving as technology advances. Nothing to be scared off really.
An odd thought of mine: I wonder if the Dall-E understands regional word differences? British say "garden" but many in America would say "yard" in describing the same place.
A question, do you use Adobe Shasta with all your videos now, to improve the audio? I'm new to your channel but your channel is amazing with all the tutorials you make! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi There ... Thanks for the kind words ... really appreciate that. Re Shasta ... no, this is the first video and I only used it this time because the sound panels in my office were removed from the walls and ceiling as we're relocating 👍🏻
Thanks Glyn. Great use of a combo of tools. Have you been finding success using photo Ai from Topaz for enlarging? Giga still gives more control but I’m liking the results from Photo Ai for old photos
Great video. This technology is quit amazing...no idea yet how to remove the white spots that I have in old pictures created by the refection while scanning...not really a scratch...more of an artifact introduced by the scanning
I have been using Topaz Sharpen basically since it came out then added Denoise and later Gigapixal (which, at times can add even more Clarity). Their new Photo AI can do some stunning things that the others don't do as well! I'd like to point out that their programs DON'T ALWAYS ACTUALLY MAKE A PHOTO BETTER LOOKING! That's by no means a cut but if you have a pretty decent shot to begin with then it may - and that's MAY - make it worse. Many of my older shots, like yours in this video, are a perfect example of an old, non-sharp, noisy renderings that Topaz can transform beyond belief!!!! I have 30 year old, low rez VHS video of long past friends that I recently popped a frame from into Photo AI and it did an AMAZING job of restoration - stunning actually. I'm going to have to try Dall-e now! YES, I'M A HUGE FAN OF AI and want to try Topaz Video Enhance AI for a bunch of corrections there. I'm not a sales person for their products, just an extremely happy customer!!!!!
Thanks for the video Glyn. Restoring old cherished photographs...now there's a job and a half...or is it. Every success with the move Glyn. Best wishes to you both. Is it a move to Wales now...get some of that zip line action with Joe McNally (LOL).
Impressive video. Thank you for providing some insight into this new frontier. I’ve seen some examples of AI output but never thought to “fix” existing images with it. Another door is open. I can’t wait to play with this new technology. Yes, it can be scary for some as it will definitely allow anyone to generate or manipulate images in positive and negative ways, and may impact revenue generation at some levels for professional creatives. However, like any tool it can only go so far on it’s own. Creatives just have to adapt like we’ve been doing for decades now as technology allows more people to generate content without us. In some ways it will also allow creatives to be more creative and go beyond existing limitations or restrictions. Great stuff. I’d much rather ride the wave than be drown by it.
Thank you for this. You asked for comments about this being threating. Well, lets cast our minds back to the advent of digital. Just like all emerging technologies you have the Nay Sayers. When Steven Sasson in 1975 produced the first digital camera at Kodak, there was a massive internal fight, those who maintained it was a waste of time, money, and resources and those that had the vison of the future. Well Kodak went bust due their short-sighed action in canning it. So anyone who feels that AI is threatening will be on the wrong side of history. If they are using the current iterations of LrC and PS are already using elements of AI. I started my photographic interest at 10 yrs old working with my Uncle a well-known London photographer. That was 70 years ago (I will be 80 yrs young this coming month) and this old dog loves learning new tricks. So, any commercial photography who does not embrace these new technologies will go the way of Kodak. Thank you again for introducing the is to us and I have already signed up for an account with DALL-E. 👍👍👍
Thanks for this great presentation on some of the AI-enhanced softwares in the market today. This is just the beginning. I remember spending hours trying to restore very old and damaged photographs. These new image editing softwares do the job in a snap! I agree we should be inspired and find new ways to take advantage of this technology instead of feeling threatened.
Why don’t I have Beta apps on my adobe account? 😢 I really want to try this out ! Love your videos Glyn, I’ve followed you ever since you did a talk at my camera club a few years ago now!
I may be stupid or strange, but when it came to the A.I audio, I preferer the audio with more room tone; am I the only one. Btw, great video to show good usage of AI rather than only create tacky art.
Definitely not a threat. We have to keep up with progress or get left behind. I am about to turn 77 and so enjoy learning something new every day. Thank you.
Truly amazing - and as you say, this is going to get better every day. On the downside, yes, it certainly has the potential for danger through its misuse - creating a counterfeit of an existing masterpiece; placing a person into a compromising physical location ... these are just two. Us attorneys are already discussing potential misuse scenarios and how to best protect against each of them..
Yeah I totally get what you're saying about the potential misuse but then that's always been present especially since Photoshop appeared. I've done official courses on image analysis showing how to use Photoshop to detect areas of an image the have been altered; also how to use Photoshop to tell the right of a person etc ... Very interesting stuff. A.I though .. wow ... especially in video.
This downside is something that existed long before AI. Anyone skilled enough in Photoshop can do it. All that AI does it make it quicker. But I guess attorneys need to maintain their sources of income. Blocking (censoring) unwanted results is not the solution. Stable Diffusion has a local install and any coding can be altered. I do wonder if AI can somehow embed a signature into the image to prove it is AI, like the exif data but more secure. That would also legally be useful.
The combination of AI in both the illustration field as well as photography - Add to that Lidar cameras being used in commercial photography, it sounds like the next 10 years is not a profession to be in... As someone whom worked in the largest professional photo trade for 30 plus years selling up 10x8 cameras and darkroom equipment, I find it astonishing.. I wonder what else Adobe is working on in the art field... I'm waiting for mid-journey to able to produce a larger image size without using a third party bit of software..
Both DALL-E and MidJourney are free to use to a point. You get all the functionality but a certain amount of ‘tokens / free goes each month and then it resets to give you more the following month 👍🏻
This is very cool Glyn, but a bit of work going from application to application. How do you feel about doing the same kind of AI test and compare it with the new ON1 raw suite. Just curious if you might want to do that and do a comparison video.
@@glyndewis That’s fair. It’s been years since I’ve looked into it. I’m sure the options now are much better. New project for me. Appreciate your reply and thoroughly enjoyed your Lightroom Summit tutorials. Thank you 🙏🏻
I see a lot of older movies and TV shows getting upscaled and touched up...including lots of poor quality documentary footage. I am not a fan of film colorization but there is actually is quite a bit of decent "old" stuff that may attract a new audience with improved resolution, formatting, sound etc..... think of it as "enhanced" nostalgia
Such an amazing video, Glen! Having trouble with the Nureal filters..Unable to download the filters for some reason. When I click the "Download" button, it loads for a quick second and the button comes back :/ Anyone else notice this issue? Downloaded the Photoshop (Beta) version today 1/28 so most up to date..any help would be much appreciated!
Really interesting video I think AI will be the next big item in photo processing. What really annoys me is phones tablets and laptops asking to prove you are not a robot!!!
Ultimately it’s an individual’s choice whether you use it or not … personally I’m all for it … just be truthful and don’t say “I did that” when AI did it.
I downloaded the latest beta version & photo restoration is not there; I even restarted my computer hoping to get photo restoration to show up but, alas, it's still not there.
Glyn: just a question about the Topaz Giga vs using Adobe's enhance/super resolution. If Topaz is the superior option, it seems there's an opportunity for Adobe to catch up. You applied Giga at the end. Does that logic apply to Adobe's Enhance tool as well (at the end vs at the start, even for regular photos).
This is SUCH an exciting future for content creators! The thing that has always held me back is the hours and hours of grinding doing video and audio editing the old way.
Love this! I've been playing with DALL-E, but never thought of this type of "real world" application.
Exciting that this is just the start ... what will we be able to do in a month , 6 months , a year etc ... ??? 😃

I'm 100% on the side of embracing it. And it's so true, this is the worst it will ever be from this point on.
Whoa moving? again? The neighbors found out about you huh? Video's great BTW
🤣
This is very cool Glyn, but a bit of work going from application to application. How do you feel about doing the same kind of AI test and compare it with the new ON1 raw suite. Just curious if you might want to do that and do a comparison video.
But ON1 doesn’t do what DALL-E or MidJourney do
What’s your advice to get the old photos digital? Can you recommend a scanner?
To be honest it's not something I specialise in so wouldn't want to recommend something just incase
@@glyndewis That’s fair. It’s been years since I’ve looked into it. I’m sure the options now are much better. New project for me. Appreciate your reply and thoroughly enjoyed your Lightroom Summit tutorials. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Glyn great video. How would image enhancement have worked in PS instead of gigapixel?
Hi Lenie...in PS the most I've had success enlarging to was around 300% so being able to push this to 600% was great
Oh ok - makes sense.
This was most interesting. I wonder if you know is there is something equivalent to > that can be used with the MAC operating systems?
there are quite a few 'up scalers' available on the market ... Skylum for example have one
😢 any videos of you showing us how to clean and heal correctly old photos???
I see a lot of older movies and TV shows getting upscaled and touched up...including lots of poor quality documentary footage. I am not a fan of film colorization but there is actually is quite a bit of decent "old" stuff that may attract a new audience with improved resolution, formatting, sound etc..... think of it as "enhanced" nostalgia
Absolutely … interesting times ahead with all of this stuff

Such an amazing video, Glen! Having trouble with the Nureal filters..Unable to download the filters for some reason. When I click the "Download" button, it loads for a quick second and the button comes back :/
Anyone else notice this issue? Downloaded the Photoshop (Beta) version today 1/28 so most up to date..any help would be much appreciated!
Really interesting video I think AI will be the next big item in photo processing. What really annoys me is phones tablets and laptops asking to prove you are not a robot!!!
👍🏻
Ultimately it’s an individual’s choice whether you use it or not … personally I’m all for it … just be truthful and don’t say “I did that” when AI did it.
100% agree with you there Larry
This is something I really need to look into! :-)_
👍🏻
Unbelievable Glyn... now I know for sure that my generation is completely dead! hahahahaha!!!
🤣
Excellent thank you but you don't have to use AI. ( I do with Topaz s/w ) so its not a substitute its another tool. Your chose.
Exactly Warren ... great to have it there if you 'choose' to use it 😃
you ran the sound through what? Adobe Shaster???
Adobe Shasta ... ruclips.net/video/9Od-FgyRPEI/видео.html
Just updated PS and Beta apps now showing.
Nice one
❤
thank you!!! video liked and u got a well deserved sub from me!!!!
Thanks so much Trevor
I downloaded the latest beta version & photo restoration is not there; I even restarted my computer hoping to get photo restoration to show up but, alas, it's still not there.
Your "before" photo had noticeable digital stutter. It was also present in your completed image. ???
A 70 year old photo with digital stutter??? 🤣
Just downloaded the Beta version of Photoshop and sadly that filter seems to be disabled due to an error, lots of people having a similar issue
Where are you seeing that other people are having the same issue mate? I've just downloaded the Beta to my laptop too and it's there and working 🤔
Simple machine restart did the trick!
