No reason at all to feel dumb about it! Dice is a clever way of looking at an abstract understanding of numbers, I love it! It got you to think outside of the normal Base-10 patterns of counting. You should be proud about it!
Huh. Every other number between 5 and 10 has iterations where you can add up to them from any lower number. That is an amazing catch! What a beautiful asymmetry of this four-symbol counting system!
Thanks so much for posting- I am actually watching this as a favor for my older brother, who wants to know if he's thinking correctly about the number system but doesn't want to have it spoiled for him, *lol*. When I play (if he ever lets me, that is...) I'll be spoiled a bit, but that's fine. Oh, the sacrifices we make for these gamers! PS- Fez seems almost as much fun to listen to as it does to play. The chip tume soundtrack is awesome. :-)

it's a cool system but it's not completely correct. If you take the symbols for 6 and 2, you cannot form the symbol that represents 8 by overlapping the lines. (You can do this for all the other numbers). The system is thus not 100% consistent. Great game though.
What. Why doesn't the single down arrow represent 8? Then you wouldn't have duplicate numbers when you're adding digits together. And it would allow you to count up to 15.

I guess you're only allowed to overlap the numbers 1,2,3,4. Greater numbers are already overlappt and are not allowed to overlap again. The Examples with 1+2+7 = 10 only work because you can wirte them as 1+2+3+4 = 10 You can still overlap 1,3 and 4 to get 8

How did you figure out the overlapping thing? I was only able to guess 5 and 7 from the fact that their symbols (from the 10 sums) were 2 rotation slots away from each other, as were the 5 from the number 3. 'solving' it that way left me without knowing what 6 or 8 were.
You guys are holding this rediculous game so high when the game is so poorly developed. You don't understand the puzzles because there is nothing to understand but you are making up this nonsence about how smart the developers are simply because you don't understand the game. Never does the game explain or suggests that one has to decipher codes and alphabets and never does the game gives you a guide about any of the symbols. One needs to go online and watch videos only to understand that in order to solve a puzzle one needs to do something that the game never suggested and does not have any logic that ties up with the information provided by the npcs. The game could have been great if you get all the info you need from the game play-you invest in game play and are rewarded with information. Instead you go online only to be surprised by solutions that are simply out of whack.
I never would have figured this out in a million years. same goes for the fez alphabet
Perfect sense. I don't see logic like this in the numerals we use, pictorially they just seem to represent themselves.

That is exactly where we went at first as well! We also worked some base-2 stuff out at some point. This game, man!
not a bad game. but for the time taken to decipher those codes and stuff you can learn a real language that's usefull.

I was working on a base 13 number system. but this seams to work a little better

Yep! I got that same point. I really love this game except by the fact that you need information out of the game to solve its puzzles.
