English can be the easiest language to learn or the hardest for some people. It is not ok to make fun of someone if they can’t speak English. End of sentence.

Nah, being one whose mother tongue is way different and has no connection or ancient roots with the Latin language- English, I assure that I assume that I am a pretty fluent english speaker even though I rarely speak it with people offline. (By the way, I sincerely apologize for my inaccurate in terms of vivid vocabulary and grammatically incorrect, pathetic way of writing/speaking English.)

USA Born in 1960s and absolutely heard some older people said double-V; including my dad who was an engineer & born in 1915. But in school it was called double-U.
According to my dad it was usually called double-V by people from 1800s.

The letter "w" was pronounced as "double-v" by Spanish/Latin. The letter "V" was used for sound of "u". For example, MVSEVM (MUSEUM), and (even) before that, "v" was also used for sound "w" just like VVILLIAM (WILLIAM). So therefore, U, V, W are interconnected (they are together in the standard english alphabet)
They evolved from Ancient Latin, Old English, Roman Alphabets, Medieval English.

He forgot to point out that early on, the Latin alphabet didn’t have Us so they used Vs, which were pronounced as Us when used as a vowel, and Ws when used as a consonant. Over time the V’s pronunciation changed to the one we know today, and the letter U was introduced. However they still needed a letter for the W sound, so they started using UUs and VVs

It actually goes back even further: in Latin Us and Vs were written the same way, like a V (AURUM was written like AVRVM), because context was enough to determine which one you meant, and carving curves is harder than carving straight lines.
Using the same character for both Vs and Us remained for a while, and that's why W was written with either "VV" or "UU". Originally, they were essentially the same letter with two completely different pronunciations.
