Carlos "MY MAN" Santana! Play that guitar brother! This song is the bomb! I saw SANTANA perform back in the 70s when I was a teenager! The brothers playing those bongos are incredible! Who the hell is this fine lead singer?? The brother can sing his ass off! 💘💘
Love Carlos' long coat! Like a magician of music!! Saw him wearing that in 96 too at Wembley Arena, he came on stage wearing it and smoking a huge spliff, puffing out smoke rings! The band were really great then!
The music on this song is from the song "Karate" as originally performed/recorded by the Emperors in 1966. Santana wrote the new lyrics. Check out the songwriting credits: Carlos shares with Messrs. Brown and Moss the composers of "Karate."
please notice carlos has a picture of sacred heart of JESUS on his amplifier ! thank you so much carlos for doing this ! I have heard you always have our LORD on your amplifier at all your concerts ! JESUS IS LORD AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Brother can sing and Carlos can play that guitar WOW!. I'd like to see Tina Turner perform this song with her backup dancers. It would be AWESOME!
@jimdep1 Neal actually joined when he was 15 years old in 1969, sometime after Santana's Woodstock performance. He recorded 3 studio albums with Santana (Abraxas, Santana III, Caravanserai). He was 17 at the time Santana III was recorded. He left in 1973, when he was 19 years old.
He, was about 17 or older. I. seen The Original Santana Band in N.Y. w/ and An Unknown NEAL SCHON. the original Band is unmatched .and the Tower of Power horns also.... SEEN them also at the Fillmore ....
Neal Schon did not play on Santana (eponymous debut) or Abraxas; he appeared first on Santana III and on the Live w/Buddy Miles album and finally, Caravanserai.
@jimdep1 You're right about Abraxas, I was mistaken (but for some reason, it's listed under his discography under the official site). But Carlos and Neal have both said in interviews that he joined when he was 15 years old (which would've been in '69). I know he did some session work--mostly unreleased material--and rehearsals in the first couple years, but his "official" debut was on Santana III.
@jimdep1 Neal says in interviews he actually met them when he was 14 (they all lived in the Bay Area), I think sometime before Woodstock. I read one of Carlos' biographies, and he talks about meeting Neal. Greg actually met him first and invited him to the studio to jam. Carlos didn't know a thing about Neal until he walked in on a session. Soon after, Greg and the rest of the band decided to ask Neal to join. Carlos didn't want to. Greg threatened to leave the band, so Carlos agreed.
@jimdep1 And Carlos' account was before Abraxas. Still trying to work on an exact timeline, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there on the web. The best info I can find seems to come from interviews and biographies.
Neal Schon did the solo on the record. Stanford University Marching Band started doing the song back in the 1970s. The song predates Santana by many years.
Too funky. Gimmie some real Tower of Power Horns! This was period when synthisizers subbed for a cheap version of real instruments. It continues today. Not good.
I wish he would quit screwing around and use a real brass section. That would let the keyboards pursue other avenues in this particular number. Oh well absolutely not bad regardless.
Wow... go Carlos! He always brings out the best of the talented musicians that play with him. I love seeing Raul and Karl’s chemistry too. 🙏
One of the best songs that very few people knew of from the 3rd album...it rocks, it rolls, it's got soul!
What a guy eh? Heal well Carlos from heart surgery. We need more of your music 🙏
Amazing, wonderful, carebean soul❤👌👌

Santana, truly, is a genius shaman. But, that percussion break at 3:10... WOW!

Original version is well done, but when Carlos covers a song he makes it his own! Both versions soulful and full of life!
CT Chester Thompson from the Tower of Power on Keyboards... YEAH!

The brother can definitely blow and Carlos Santana is an awesome guitar player! Been a fan since Junior High in the 80s.
This is the song they (Santana) stole from the Emperor's "Karate", Emperors received no compensation?
Hell yeah! Awesomely great!
God, what talent!
LOVE the guitar Opening
We are doing those exact same songs with the addition of She's Not There. And it's Da Le Yaleo :)

@MarshallAmpMan
Sorry, Schon was 17 (born 1954) in 1971 when Santana III was recorded and released.....
I play this song in my band is very good
RIP RAUL REKOW

Wow, we play this song to in Chief Sealth! Same as the Husky Band.

Gregg ROLIE sang it on the album.

Too funky & santana tune!
My personal opinion, I think this is the best guitar solo by Carlos ever.
+Misael Yajure Pirone el uso del wah wah es a un nivel impresionante.
Una clásica del maestro de Autlán Jalisco !!!!
why didnt they have this guy play at the mtv awards?
🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Para mí, el mejor tema de Santana...!!! El único que me gusta...!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍👍🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🍀🍀🍀:-) :-) :-)
What are the spanish lyrics at the end of the song? Something about baile?
Is there a keyboard turorial or cover to this?
Go to SFHS?
You're made because Santana's version is better!
Props to lead vocalist Wayne Brady.
Neal Schon did the solo on the record. Stanford University Marching Band started doing the song back in the 1970s. The song predates Santana by many years.
The song was written and recorded by "The Emperor's in the 60's (Was called "Karate") Not written by Santana as claimed!
Sounds like there is a drummer/ machine running out of time all through it?
Neal and Greg did it better
Neal Schon was 15 when he played lead on this on Santana III
