Very good series. She’s progressing quickly for only being on snow for a few days. Not to mention, a full camber board isn’t the easiest to learn on. Well done Nev & Rio!!!

i swear you explain the best on youtube. Showing us the wrong examples and live examples then correcting it helps someone who is very visual like me. Excited to try it out next time i hit the slope! Much appreciated!!

I remember learning the up/down for the first time and the timing was hard and difficult to understand, then it just clicks.
It help me to think of it as pulling my board towards my body away from the snow by bending my legs rather than thinking of it as crouching down.
Its like wanting to rotate a heavy plant pot, you would want to lift it off the floor (even just a little bit) and that makes it easier to rotate.

Ruddering. So many people do it. It’s out of fear and being uncomfortable for sure. People do it even 10 years into riding because they never learned how to properly carve. Your tutorials are awesome and I hope more people watch your channel so they can learn the proper ways to carve and stay safe while riding!

I’m so jealous of her. The instructors in my local area are 14-15 year olds who can’t teach. I’m progressing much slower than I could’ve been with a real instructor 😢 rio is incredibly lucky

Very good tutorial! Just want to say that If you stop and rest, stay off to the side not in the middle of traffic or some fast riders will slam into you. Same rule like driving a car.

Definately agree! this was filmed on a learner area slope, so no one should be riding through at speed :)

High level, when you come up, you coil like an accordion to change edges. Then repeat!

I remember when I was learning years ago, I was struggling with turns until I picked up some speed. Moving slowly makes a lot of this very tough imo.

This is such a fantastic series. I could be wrong, but I think her toe edge turns are choppy because she's turning her upper body and head too quickly, which is whipping her lower body around afterwards. Nev (or whoever sees this from SA), would you coach this by telling her to make her upper body movement on the toe edge turn "quieter" or "smoother" to help make for a smoother toe edge transition? Or am I off here and is it a different issue entirely? I hope that made sense! :D

Your right! we just can't flood Rio with too much information.
Once shes more used to snowboarding we will start improving her form, but for now we are just training her tools so she can improve on her own:)

Good point. It's so easy to do that! 😅. Thank you so much for the reply. It's incredible this series is free of charge! It is so high-impact and high quality. Can't wait to see how Rio continues to progress :D, she is doing an amazing job!@@SnowboardAddiction

Wish he has been my teacher when I started to ride!! Would have saved me from bad habits (e.g. forcing turns), not to mention a lot of falls! 😅

11:39 Nice of rando background dude to help demonstrate.
That'd make for one hell of a video, explaining something and coordinating other snowboarders at that moment.

Did you switch to Burton Step on's?? is it worth it? Great vids.

    • @SnowboardAddiction

Taevis uses the nitro Team Bindings, Burton step ons are great if you don't like strapping in, but they do change the feel of snowboarding so they are not used by many park riders.

    • @nevlapwood

Hi, I use both step ons and normal bindings. Step ons are the best for teaching a new snowboarder because they are so simple to use. I am planning to make a comparison video this season. Right now I don't mind using either but my old habits prefer strapping into normal bindings when riding park.

Thanks for your comment! Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Sometimes, looking the part gives people the confidence boost they need to get out there and learn. Plus, snowboarding gear is designed for safety and comfort, which is important for beginners too. 😊🏂
