The story is narrated by Kiran, who lives in Saudabad, Malir, Karachi. Growing up, she frequently saw Bua, an elderly lady who was a distant relative from Sahiwal. Bua was unmarried, independent, and hardworking, often visiting Karachi to buy and sell clothes. Kiran shared a special bond with her, especially cherishing the delicacies and warmth Bua brought during her visits.
One night, Kiran asks Bua why she never got married. Bua, after some hesitation, tells her story. She was engaged to her cousin Zaheer since childhood. Though she was not considered beautiful, Zaheer was exceptionally handsome, and they both loved each other. Tragedy struck when Zaheer's father passed away, and soon after, strange events began to happen. Zaheer, while guarding their fields at night, began acting distant and later fell severely ill. Despite recovering from a fever, he was never the same-quiet and withdrawn.
As time passed, Zaheer became increasingly erratic, often talking to unseen entities and exhibiting strange behavior. It was revealed that he was possessed by a female spirit who had fallen in love with him. Despite efforts to treat him through spiritual means, his condition worsened. He became violent and even injured Kiran's father. Eventually, in a tragic turn of events, Zaheer drowned himself, leading to the death of Kiran's father and, later, Zaheer's mother, who couldn't bear the grief.
After these tragedies, Kiran's family's life fell apart. She was deemed unlucky, and her engagements failed. Bua, who had faced a similar fate of loss and loneliness, continued to work independently until she passed away from a heart attack. In the end, Kiran married Bua's nephew, Taimur, and they now live in Karachi.
