No Syntell he was not talking about the debt collector, he was talking about the district collector ( the head administrative officer of a district) as their main work before independence was to collect taxes, that's why they were known as district collectors, but now they have other priorities like looking after administration of a district.

Im actually sad as to how much importance we impart to English still. Some of our native languages are on the verge of extinction....but yes loved how most of them cited fellow Indians as their inspiration. The Indians today are so fascinated by the West I think they would not pick any other Indian as their role model. The tendency to criticize the country still exists though. Look at the progress we have made in just 70 something years!!! Look at the other countries that got independence around the same time? I think we have done reasonably well for ourselves. the importance of english is still felt because at the end of the day it's a language. It's a tool. Given how diverse our country is, we need a common medium of communication, and it just so happened that due to colonisation, it was english. I do think that it's wrong to see it as a sign of your status in society, but if u know english u can communicate with most of the world, that's why people see it as important. Yes there are others who take it overboard and I definitely don't agree with them but....u know, just stating some practical reasons :)....and I don't think that our generation is that fascinated by the west....I just think the world has opened up to each other because of social media but me being a 15yr old, my role model has been rekha and late lata mangeshkar tai.....yet I also don't think it's wrong to have "western" role models but I firmly believe that it's important that we know about the great leaders, fighters, artists, mathematicians, of our country....and about our development, I agree with u and only because of how *massive* our country is. I mean there are other asian countries who've really done well for themselves even though they got independence around the same time as us etc, but they're significantly less complicated than us.....the reason we face problems is because the government is more focused on elections and dividing people, rather than coming up with solutions to problems together. And also because of people labelled "anti-nationalists", just because they call out their own country.....The so called "true nationalists" are actually the real harm to the country because the second u think your country's perfect, BOOM...you no longer add any value to it, and all u do is complain about others who are trying to hold the govt accountable.
sry really went on a tangent there

So 2 weeks back the government opened the new metro project they have been working for the public in my city and obviously we took her to experience it and see what they have built the amaze glory and awe in her eyes was unmatched.. like she was just amazed that how a whole train system can be situated in the middle off the city and jaby The government have done an amazing job to "keep up with technology" like for every station there are electric charging points for your electric vehicle hassle free entry and exit and the train are also well managed so imagine showing this to a person who thought that they were finished after the brits left

Wow.This is a really impressive video footage which you guys have found. You guys can also observe the difference between the urban and the rural life over here in India and their knowledge on the ongoing issues and political scenarios in the country. This really gives me nostalgia TBH. Also still people in rural parts of india are very ignorant of the fact of getting the names of the PM, President and also the CMs names of their own state. What syntell said is soo true .....they only know abt their money lenders name. I'm not saying abt everyone but a few parts of India. India is still in the developing with the ongoing issues on religion and language.

The narrator says that the first time the documentary was recorded, the maker was unsatisfied with the people' presentation. Therefore, he decided to reshoot the whole video but with the students of IIT(Indian Institute of Technology- basically difficult to get in and is one of the most prestigious institutions in India, no doubt they will be well spoken). They had a pretty out of the box ideas and good perception about the country. The ones from the villages are also real(most speak their native tongue).

In its earliest days USA was not even close to being as big as it is today. Back then its size was more comparable to the UK. The first large increase was during the Louisiana purchase in 1803. The telegram was introduced in the USA after 1844. So yes, there were a few decades where USA was quite large but did not have a fast communication method but it wasn't that long a time-period and most of the new territory during that time period was mostly empty so very few people would have been affected by this lack of fast communication.

This was fun to watch. I'm not a patriot myself but I appreciate the the things that I appreciate about this country. The bravery of some people, the colours and designs of the art here(I'm an artist myself, is why they appeal to me) and thank God for the variety of food we get to eat compared to the morning bland bowls of oatmeal and sweet processed cereal in the west. But there is so much I don't appreciate as well like the people who spit and pee on the road side(in broad daylight), men who leer at women unashamedly (and it's the women who get blamed for their clothing instead of the perverts who stalk us), the unhygienic preparation of streetside food (but damn yummy), the overcrowded places (my home is beside a road where I hear honking and vehicular noises every second till 2 A.M..I hate it) etc, they way people worship their political leaders and how most people can't laugh at themselves or appreciate parodies. I'm in the grey when it comes to my love for my country. But that only speaks of my circumstances and choices as an individual

All these Questions and Answers are relevant to this very day. We still stand in queues to get ration, it's still tough to admission, electricity isn't available still in the remote areas throughout the day, people still compete to degrade the country actually more so than ever. We still lag at sports and we still haven't been able to properly industrialize this country but still we have hopes for this country.

17:06 Syntel ji you misheard that. There it was asked that he knows the District collector? A State is sub divided into Mandals and those Mandala are subdived into Districts. Every district has a IAS (Indian Administrative Services) officer earlier main job was to oversee the ongoing development of the district + collect tax which is used for the development. So people called the officer a collector as that officer helped in the tax collection of the region. Nowadays that IAS officer is called DM - District Manager. As today the main job is to maintain the region and then also oversee the development.

They had a well-off background and they were quite intelligent, and, most of the individuals are from IIT Bombay, one of the prestigious colleges at that time and even now. The director of the film deliberately shot this again with these students because he was not satisfied with the thoughts emanated from his earlier project. However, to be able to speak English with such great cohesion in the 1960s is still staggering to me. Well, hands down, this is the most beautiful video about India I have ever seen. It is a reflection of the thoughts of some of the great minds.
