this is the first car of this type that i really like the look of, the first suv type car I might buy that has all the extras I want and more, MPG seems to be good enough as well even though it lacks a lot of power
I have ordered the Koba in 2WD in the same colour you reviewed. When I test drove the car, I found it a similar feel to my current i30, but with fantastic suspension. I loved the safety features offered as standard and decided that as long as it had voice assist to work with my iPhone, I was sold. I didn't actually have a problem with rear view visibility, and I do over shoulder checks. I liked the driving height of this car too. The only kids I drag around in my car are fur-kids, and they won't care about the backseat room and visibility. I love everything about the look of this car and am excitedly awaiting production and delivery (probably June).
I loved my C-HR. I owned and enjoyed Diamond for 4 years. I traded her in for a hybrid RAV4 in 2021 because I needed a towing vehicle for my new camper. I’ve seen her locally once. I still love the look of the first C-HR; the updated shape doesn’t wow me.
Good car for small country town driving. 10km trips on average, no kids, and the odd bag on the back seat or a suitcase in the boot. I’m sold for basic transport as I have listed, I’ll keep the real car in the garage for Sunday funday!
85kw and 185nm......are you serious? 1.2L is woefully underdone, even with its turbo! This shouldn't have anything less than a 2.0L. That 1.2 will be under some serious stress with a turbo, passenger/passengers and an aircond running! I know this car is more for show than go, but this tiny outputs are a big oversight, a Corolla has more muscle!
I have no doubt that within a few months the aftermarket performance shops/tuners will have performance upgrades to give the 1.2L Turbo engine more power. It's quite possible to increase boost or bolt on an aftermarket turbo to increase power to 150+ kilowatts and over 250nm of torque. Look what they have done to the WRX in the past. The Toyota CHR has just been release worldwide, just give it a few months and I'm sure you see aftermarket performance upgrades available. This car/engine has good potential.
I'm waiting delivery on mine. I was a bit worried about stepping out of an Aurion into a C-HR but after two test drives I don't have a problem with having less than half the power. It drives well and the head unit does everything I need. I was disappointed that the USB port was on the head unit and not mounted lower down on the console but I can live with that since music through bluetooth makes more sense. I was also not happy about losing airconditioning vents for the back seat.
Assuming this is Australia, how did you go about getting a test drive model? There's apparently an embargo at the moment that limits all the dealerships in my state to like 4 cars a month or something ridiculous. I went to a dealership last weekend and they were like 4 month wait period post placing an order. The other CHR's and Koba's they had in the show room were all sold.
One of the things I'm not happy about the Aussie spec CHR's is that we miss out on the 9 speaker 576 watt JBL sound system that comes standard on the European and UK spec CHR's. We only get the standard 6 speaker audio, and it doesn't even have Digital radio which is a bit of a disappointment for a car made in 2017. Did you get a chance to listen to the standard sound system in the CHR ?, did it sound ok with good bass and no distortion ? Did you purchase the Koba model, what is the current waiting time as I'm thinking of purchasing one too ?
Maybe the dealer did the typical dealer thing and lied to me about the delivery time but I was told it could be up to an eight week wait. They were hoping it would be sooner than that. Like many dealers, our local has an arrangement with other dealers to swap cars if a customer wants a colour that another dealer has. I chose red because those fugly taillights blend in better. My dealer had two cars when they were released and got another one a few days after I did the test drive so I drove a Koba and a base model. I can't see the extra $4000 value in the Koba because the base model has all a person could need. The base model doesn't have the proximity key, heated seats and fake leather seats of the Koba but the base model interior is a nice place to be - something I have never been able to say about any Toyota I've owned with the possible exception of a Celica in the early 70s. I didn't listen to the head unit because I was more interested in the functionality of the GPS and bluetooth.
I was explicitly told about 3 month wait period, for every week or so I think about it the wait period gets longer as demand gets higher as the video suggests. Hopefully nobody gets placed in the position of not getting their car this year at all which would be a shame for both the consumer and Toyota. I didn't get a chance to really play with the car at all other than to step in and take a look around, as most were already sold. Both dealerships I visited did not have a driveable demo but did have a display model Koba. The salesperson did a pretty fine job of selling up the Koba to me but I must say, if you did in fact individually add up all the features the Koba has over the CHR the difference in price for individual upgrades would most likely seem to exceed the $4000 hike up in price. I did agree with the video that AWD does seem unnecessary on the CHR model, I'm currently tossed up mentally between the 2WD CHR and 2WD Koba Koba's interior for what it's worth was what sold it for me, but that being said the argument for Honda's HRV does seem a lot more vocal once you consider the price tags of even the lowest spec Koba vs the HRV which both feature similar characteristics.
I live in Port Macquarie so if the dealer allocation is the same as the city it may mean a shorter waiting period for a smaller demand. I didn't have a problem going for the base model because visually the interior is not that different to the Koba and it drives exactly the same. I won't miss the piano black on the centre console. If the leather was actually leather I'd get excited about it but I have my doubts about the longevity of leather-look materials. In our climate I can live without heated/cooled seats and keyless entry/push-button start hold no attraction for me. The Koba rims on the red cars look better but I can live with the standard alloys. I agree that the AWD is probably pointless given that it isn't constant and traction control on FWD cars is very good these days. The only time I might miss AWD is when I go skiing but then that's what the Skitube is for.
Young families tend to buy cheaper cars. As an adult I had trouble seeing out the windows and it's so dark and gloomy in the back seat a vampire could easily avoid the sunlight during the day.
When was the last time a kid looked out the window of a car. Their eyes are usually glued to a mobile/tablet screen and darkness is their friend. Your complaint belongs in a different era.
I've had my "Diamond" for 2.5 wks now and OMC, I'm in ❤️!!! I've had no problems with power or blind spots. I love the safety features, and the seats. I've had so many looks and questions from random peeps. Certainly an eye catcher. My only complaints would be the Toyota Link app. It's tricky to download. Also the talk button feature can be twitchy. I don't have any issues with the head unit besides that though.
I actually like much of this design but it should be refined further. The back lights and rear door handles are a tad much for me. A nice experimental step away from Toyota's typically bland styling though.
No, just sick of clueless trolls who specifically look for videos of cars they don't like just to tell people how much they don't like them. Get on with your life and give the rest of us a break.
major let down is the rear view windows...but it takes time for the driver to get use to the car anyways...overall it's not a bad car but engine size ??? 1.2 turbo? I don't know is that good enough? the new Honda civic hatch is 1.5turbo and has twin sports chrome exhaust looks very sexy. however I like the chr styling ..looks very cool and I have seen the chr in Japan u can actually purchase the sports body kit for the car itself to make it your own style. I think if I get this car....i will only go for the styling and the nice interior within...performance wise no no
I have no doubt that within a few months the aftermarket performance shops/tuners will have performance upgrades to give the 1.2L Turbo engine more power. competition? toyota stopped competing long long time ago!! look at their infotainment and etc. the only reason i would buy a toyota brand for the 5th time is their ridiculously reliability like fcking hell their cars is SOLID double hands down!
alot of car reviewers have criticised infotainment systems as being annoying to use whilst on the move. Well you're not exactly meant to be using it while on the move are you? :P
So you pay for lets call it "strange" design with limited view around and then I have to pay extra for the pleasure to be able to drive the damn thing around towns.... well, no thanks!
another shit box suv in market toyota should know it s all over now for these boxes i m very glad i ended up buying subaru liberty premium and i m really enjoying it guys give it a go it s nice car
Toyota sucks. Unless they put in Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay. Who in Australia supplies a FULL kit of aftermarket solution head unit for this - including all cables, mounting kit, frame etc? (Please post your info here. If nothing else, you will get my business, if not 1,000s of others. Toyota - after all - sells 1,000s of these every year!) Otherwise? Nah. Stay away! Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a HUGE SAFETY BENEFIT. (Until you use it, you'll never understand.)

couldnt you just use unleaded tho? would a change in fuel make any difference?
nick ladeeda You can use regular unleaded in an emergency.
Ken England Mine is costing the same as what my 2012 i30 cost to fill, but going further on a tank.
justin8448 Have you tried driving it? It's a dream to drive. Plenty of power, if you're not a hoon.
Thankfully they upgraded that basic headunit. The 2019 version is the one to buy.
Thanks for the info!
the car looks futuristic
Maybe I'll wait for the next one, there is so much room for improvements, my corolla can run for the next 2 years.
Still running? xD
Does the AWD kick in automatically , I cant find a button to activate it ???
How do you go over a bump like that!!!!!
i sat in the back of one, reminded of the batcave
😂
This or Kia Niro, which would be better?
Is there any USB port in C-HR ?
yes there are a couple in there.
I'm waiting delivery on mine. I was a bit worried about stepping out of an Aurion into a C-HR but after two test drives

CARTER HIGHNESS get the brz its alot more fun
CARTER HIGHNESS
I've had my C-HR for 2.5 wks now, LOVE IT!!!!!
Long wait though.
Children will have to wait till they are twelve years old till they can see out the back passenger side
windows. Talk about a car sickness recipe!
Andrew C I don't think the main market is families.
Young families tend to buy cheaper cars. As an adult I had trouble seeing out the windows and it's so dark and gloomy in the back seat a vampire could easily avoid the sunlight during the day.
Andrew C
Lucky I don't intend to sit in the back seat of my new car. 😉

Choosing this over the tesla model 3 is nuts
4:45 haha look at that Mercedes at how it’s parked both wheels up the kerb.😂😂😂😂😂😂

Very good info, practical review, compared to others.
Kip up same
I wouldn't buy a 2017 car for 35k+ that doesn't have Apple or Google connectivity!
you know you can get buy that from any audio store right?
Depending if you intend to drive or play music ?.
The only cool part of that car is the dynamic indicators.
passenger door handle and rear brake lamp are similar to nissan juke. nice review, though. keep the good work
Man I love this guy
why is it disappointing that the seats don't have electric controls? it's better without... less things to break.
Yeah back door handles are not very smart! But the kids will like it, they will think they have their own chauffeur! But as a parent I don't know..
The average seven year old could reach those handles.
No, just sick of clueless trolls who specifically look for videos of cars they don't like just to tell people how much they don't like them.

Have you ever changed radio station while driving? Or switched from Nav to Phone to Media etc?
Nice but way to expensive, the base model priced at 33k driveway for the auto doesn't even have keyless start....
Space saver wheel? What space is it saving? Deal breaker. Pass.
G SAU
Most of the cars in this segment have space saver wheels.
The definition of Form > Function car
good car
Great review but honestly I'm a bit disappointed with the car.
mid 30k for 85 measley kilowatts... what?! if i wanted 85kw i could buy a new accent for 13k and it has more power.
The looks isn't going to aged well in my opinion...
Premium? No thanks.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY 1.2L Turbo
So you pay for lets call it "strange" design with limited view around and then I have to pay extra for the pleasure to be able to drive the damn thing around towns.... well, no thanks!
its looks good but I'd rather die than only have 85kw
less power :(
see that interior i mean 35k u serious toyota
I just watched the new Subaru XV release, XV will kill CHR for sure.
This is like a teenagers car that was designed by an out of touch Dad
Gibbet Hoskins : yes mr schwartzetupid
Haha, very good.
Robert Alberto Brito Lee Triggered
Gibbet Hoskins I bet you like VW "striking" design
Luka The butt hurt is real
Not sunrof👎
Only kids will own these type of cars. Seriously that second row , theyll cut my legs even juke is worse

" all over now for these boxes"
Seriously??? What planet do you live on?
SUVs are rapidly overtaking sedans and hatches as the preferred purchase.
guri singh jit
Maybe you should try it before you bash it. I've had mine for 2.5 wks now, and I find excuses every day just to drive it.
Rather get an Evoque
Very different pricing level.
XYX hell no. I go for this C-HR over a typical Evoque.👊🏼

Toyota has become the joke of the auto industry, what an ugly piece of crap this is🤣
William D Toyota has nevevr been a joke. This is the real deal buddy.👊🏼
