I’m the other side of the Atlantic! And truth be told, a lot of struggles mentioned by yourself are still prevelant today in the U.K.- houses are rising at an exponential rate compared to previous eras (thankfully I’m on the property ladder) and gas prices are taxed an unwholly amount. We’re losing our identity through diversification & the uncertainty over Brexit has left the business landscape in a state of uncertainty.
From a more trivial standpoint- movies, music and entertainment was terrific. What I dislike most about modern family life is the huge variety of television available. As a kid, we had 4/5 channels here in the U.K.- lack of choice meant more high quality programming as the channels were more competitive with one another. Masses of channels means smaller budgets for most channels & more garbage. With the advent of on demand services like Netflix/RUclips, most people watch what they want on their own devices, meaning ‘family time’ watching a show with your parents is becoming a rarer thing.
And don’t get me started on Facebook; a website where we can snoop on anyone’s life? I’m greatful I disconnected my account years ago. Online forums in the main are a horrible place, full of hateful, ignorant individuals who get a kick out of bullying one another and picking fights with strangers.
Just show an Atari console. We had those to play on between Sunday and Thursday nights. On Friday and Saturday nights we hit the malls and videogame arcades. That was our world in the early mid 80s.
Cartoons, Atari and ColecoVision, riding around on our bikes, and watching the Von Erichs feud with the Fabulous Freebirds on WCCW. A typical Saturday for my brother and I in the early to mid 80's.
I was able to have the late 80s and early 90s Mall/Arcade/Atari & Nintendo/IBMs/Macintosh experience. I do miss those wonder days. I believe life was simpler and less stressful... Oh, well, as Tony the Tiger would say "Grrrreat!!!" 😎🤟🖖👍

Us 80s kids were definitely gaming on the SNES in the early 90s, but I don't know if it belongs in this video.
SNES came out in Japan in November 21, 1990, so technically that still the 80s because there was no year zero, the 90s started at January 1, 1991.
