It's been so many years since I saw this episode, and still remains one of the best scenes, finally after many decades he stood by his mother and fought for Brooke.
That's why they were messed up. When Brooke his virginal fiancee came and lived with him (they didn't sleep together immediately under the roof. He slept on a couch and he let her have the bed) and he told her he would protect her from his mom and started off doing that but then stopped doing it after Caroline got involved and his mother continued to pester him. Ridge was originally good to her and treated her like a friend when they first moved in together before they slept with each other. He would hug her and it wasn't always kissing. It was more kissing before he asked her to move in but once she moved in and she told him she'd never been with a man before like that then he wasn't as amorous but acted more like a friend to her and confidant. Caroline and his nasty mother should have left their relationship alone.
One of the few times Ridge has truly stood up to his mother. Stephanie kills me. She thinks Ridge should give himself time before proposing to Brooke, let himself grieve. But whenever he leaves brooke, she wants him to marry Taylor the next day.
The truth of the matter is that Ridge has always been in love with book. he was an idiot with Caroline who did recognize that he was in love with Brooke but once again compartmentalize her and came back when it suited him. I do not believe she is pushing Ridge, I think something die inside of her when he once a choose Saint Taylor over Brooke firstly by listening to his mother being manipulated by both mother and his wife. Interesting. Ridge is just a bull shooter. He put those two women through hell with his back and forth. And Stephanie manipulating all the way. After thirty years, the story is the same and those women are still fighting each other. It looks like Brooke and Ridge would have settled down by now with a nice solid marriage. If they are truly happy together, He wouldn't be threatened by outside interference. Brooke would not be lying to him, afraid he would leave her at the drop of a hat. Which he did in a half second and divorced her without giving her a reason. That's not what couples do in their fifties now.
