I live not far from where Tolkein was a professor and it actually delights me to see how deep and far is influence is. More than influence, a deep timeless love has grown for him, his imagination has created a kind of universal mythology that will probably last for as long as people read books. This very amazing Englishman who thought and felt deeply in epic ways and intimate ways, being admired by people far and wide is a beautiful legacy and all about the power of imagination, stories and literature

Congratulations on completing the trilogy and the Hobbit ^^ I read the Hobbit in high school but only got about half way through the first book of the trilogy before I just couldn't handle his level of descriptions. It's on my list to try again though and your video is a nice reminder that I really want to read the trilogy (I think now that I'm older I will enjoy it more). That book really is beautiful! I've been growing my home library as you have but mainly with used books (generally paperback). I was never bothered before about which edition of a book I had.. but I'm starting to think about the longevity of a nice hardback when it comes to some of my favorite books.

It's always so nice to see someone so happy about Tolkien. Love it! 🧡
The Silmarillion. Many find it a difficult transition after LOTR. Even plain difficult, outside that context. It's very, very worth persevering tho. I was young when I first read it. I had many restarts before a complete read through. Then over the years many re-reads to get more out of it. I still go back to certain sections, now and then.
I wouldn't get overly worried about making sure you remember who everyone is, place names, etc. Fuss over that kind of thing as much as you feel suits. You'll get plenty out of it even with some confusion in that regard, I think.
None of this might apply to yourself, of course. You may immediately love the different style, find the reading easy. I only mention possible difficulties because I want others to enjoy The Silmarillion too, not to give up on it too easily.

The core lore books are The Hobbit, LOTR, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. Basically that has all the official lore. The other stuff has the same stuff or different versions of the same stuff. His letters are worth having too for reference, since he makes commentary about various things in the stories.
Also, congratulations on finishing the LOTR and Hobbit. As old Obi-Wan once said, "You've just taken your first step into a larger world."
EDIT: the blue hardcover Silmarillion, when I saw that I'm like "yeah yeah, that's the one!" Good thing I wasn't there cause I might've bought it, and I don't need another copy, ha ha.
