The chord structure on this baby is off the scale. Masterpiece.

I think this is Paul's best ever band line up, best era of his career around this time, Damon and Steve just what he needed, Whitey is a class act... Carleen Anderson's voice is superb.

This man is one of the greats...Tags such as "The Modfather" don't do him justice imo. Great song writer, Great musician, Great performer.

This is why I continue to keep Stanley Road in the multi disc changer in the car. That album is so heavy! 20, 30+ years from now, people will still be discovering it and going WHOA!!!!!

I think the point to be made is The Beatles flashed out in a blaze of glory, Wings had a few good hits, as did McCartney as a solo artist, but he hasn't been at the top of his game for years. Weller just keeps on rolling, putting out great song after great song. How many artists have successfully reached number one in each of their incarnations? And the Stones have been crap for decades.

He's a legend no doubt, I can't say I loved Heliocentric or Illumination but he's definitely back on track with As Is Now. The self titled first solo album and Wild Wood followed closely by Stanley Road are still my favourites though.
There was a beautiful version of Out of the Sinking Weller did for Virgin radio that was him on an acoustic if anyone has this please post it, it absolutely rocked!

Still got this on VHS somewhere at me mams. Used to watch it every night before i went to bed soaking in all the moves and guitar licks, amazing performance. Steve White's drumming is awesome throughout and Cradock n' Damon are superb. I miss this era of music...!!!!

@docterlovejoy i like weller too but to say sumat like that is just stupid. considering weller dyed his hair and went all "poncy" with the style council. it was still good music either way. nothing wrong with john lennon mate. if it weren't for the beatles and bands out of that era we wouldnt have paul weller in the first place
