Junior sanctioned the hit, the dirty cop was more than likely the trigger man. They both got what they deserved in the series with Junior becoming senile and the dirty cop getting smoked by Christopher

This movie brought back so many cool memories of the sopranos series. it was tons of "Oh shit that's so and so!" moments. Well done Michael, your father would be proud of you. There is definitely going to be a sequel to this prequel.
There should definitely be a sequel to this to show the rest of the characters integrating in the Life.. But just like Chase left the Sopranos ending, this might be it... to let the audience wonder & use their own imagination... Hope not though.. A sequel would actually be amazing to show & inform of so many more theories....
And to the people that didn't like it too much...be fair man, how much do u think they can possibly cram into only 2 hrs? It's a prequel, just starting to scratch the surface.. That's why a sequel will finish quenching our thirst!! & finish explaining what we didn't see...I really enjoyed it for what it is & what it tried to explain, leading up to the amazing Show...
Just like the actual show, this should be watched more than once to understand more, that might have been missed the first time around. There's a lot that it explains in the 2 hrs, but I found that watching it again made things that much more clear & understandable... I wish it would have been at least 3 hrs long or more, if this is it... I hope not tho, cause I know a sequel would literally most likely be amazing...
This story about Dickie was beautifully done. Anyone complaining didn't get the point. There's more to come. Kudos to the guy who played Dickie and all of the actors. So well done!
How come no scene from when dickie “single Handedly took out a crew from New England” or any real evidence of him being a drug addict. … and what was the deal with coaching blind kids??? At 1st I thought that was a joke. But at his funeral there were a bunch of blind kids there!? Wtf
@Thoronbor of Gondor it kinda makes sense tho. Tony lied to Christopher to trick Chrissy into having some sense of gratitude and loyalty towards him. I mean, I think it was always implied that he was kinda lying. Remember how he told Christopher that Dickie was shot while he was bringing home “a crib” for Chrissy. Then Chrissy said “They always told me he was carrying TV trays” then Tony tries to cover up his lie. I dunno, Tony manipulating Chrissy seems like a very Tony thing to do in my opinion.
@@louier2967 you got it twisted. Chris says crib. Tony says tv trays. And For all we know Tony prob doesn’t know Junior set it up. He is prob telling Chris the story he was told over the years.

I took a lot of what didn't quite line up with what we were told about Dickie as the way people become stories when they're gone. For better or worse. Then there's the point that Tony was almost definitely lying to Christopher about Dickie. As for the blind kids, that was a very weird, almost dream-like sequence, but that's on brand for Chase and his sudden bursts of surrealism.
The way it was going I was thinking it was gonna be Tony was gonna kill Dickie which would have been perfect. But what I do like is it shows Tony lied to Christopher about that cop he said shot him.
I loved the movie but if I could change anything, that would be it. It would involve Tony more and be much more personal. I wish that could've played out
At the funeral I think Livia said they found pills in Dickie’s jacket after he died (the medicine Tony was asking Dickie about for Livia actually, if I’m right), maybe that’s what started rumors of him and drugs
I believe it was supposed to be the drugs that young Tony was asking to get his mother Livia but other than that they didn't show no other drug use and think he multisanti was supposed to be a needle user or at least a Coke user
The Newark riots I’ve always heard stories from my grandmother and great grandfather because my great grandfather was a cop during the riots never thought I’d see them in a movie
My feelings about this movie..... "It's good to be in something from the ground floor. I came too late for that and I know. But lately, I'm getting the feeling that I came in at the end. The best is over."
Excellent movie. Being Italian, I was always curious about the derivation of last names because they would most often translate to a town, adjective, religious derivation, etc. Found it particularly clever when I realized that Molti-Santi translates to Many Saints.
I heard a lot of complaints about this prequel, but honestly after watching it myself they did an amazing job in my opinion! I actually want more! A sequel to the prequel so we can see how everyone evolves overtime. It would be awesome to see Tony Soprano in his early 20s growing in to the boss he became years later. Fill in all the gaps ! That would be cool to see.
The guy who kills Dickie sounds like Billy Magnussen who plays Paulie Walnuts. It was also fall right into line with the idea that Patsy and Paulie had Tony killed in the show’s finale.
Chase has always managed to write Tony in such a way that you like him & sort of root for him when you shouldn’t because he manages to convince you at times that there is good somewhere in Tony & he does the things he does because he has to. Then Chase will throw these curveballs & you feel sick for ever thinking he was anything but evil. That’s how I felt after the truth about Dickie’s death curve ball. We don’t know for certain if Tony lied to Christopher or not but we do know Tony would 100% do something like that if it benefited him to do so. So, I’m 90% sure that’s what happened here. Tony lied to Christopher as a way to kill two birds with one stone. He got Christopher’s devoted loyalty while also taking out the cop he wanted gone for whatever reason.
Loved this movie. I like how they carried on the story from the Sopranos. Not particular liking of the characters portraying the originals but the movie was good. James' son did an EXCELLENT job with the role.
So how did Tony grow up to overtake his seniors (i.e. Sil, Paulie, etc.) and become "underboss" of New Jersey? Is it just because he is the son of Johnny Soprano or were the others really lacking in leadership quality?
This movie was not what I had expected. I thought it would show Tony growing up within the family we barely saw that. We saw more of this whole new Harold side plot that has nothing to do with The Sopranos series. They shouldn't have done nothing left it at that.
Yeah but what about that Dickie haunted down the New England Crew and him being the toughest guy in the family the Ruffalo incident? They forgett alot of things sourrading Dickie and not alot of DiMeo family business

@@heywhatsthat5212 it was unnecessary to the whole Sopranos series universe. Could of done without it, especially in a movie that lacked numerous character build up.

I’d definitely watch another movie telling more of how Tony came up through the mob Ranks and find out if Tony ever actually knew that Junior was behind Dickie’s Murder.
@@alancantu2557 He rarely treated him well. He was, however, openly remorseful for his mistreatment and begrudging attitude toward him after his death.
Yeah. I just rewatched the scene a minute ago. You don't get a good look at the shooter's face. He's white, slim built with a flat-type hat...and he used a silencer. Chase is good at leaving loose ends, or having plot line open ends so that people can say, "Yeah. Must have been the cop" like it says in the show. Or others can say that that was a lie and it was someone else, and still possibly be right. Either way we know Junior orchestrated it.
Really liked what they did to Junior's character. The actors got down the character's mannerisms, specially Pussy. I liked how they showed the emotional side of Livia. Michael hit it out of the ballpark stepping on his dad's shoes. It clearly needs a sequel focusing on Tony's origin story. It could become a even trilogy or a series.

The movie is the missing piece to the epic that is the sopranos. It’s a endless circle of karma with the crime family. The death of dicky set off a chain of events that would come back to haunt junior later in life. Almost parallel to dicky and his uncle ironically
They showed the killing of Willy Overall the black bookie in the show Young Tony does it with young Pauly. That's what connects to the ending of the movie.🇮🇹🇺🇸
Saw in theater last night. Very much like another Sopranos episode. Wish it was longer, hopefully there is a sequel. Or series. Michael G subtlety nailed Tony. Vera so fun. Dickie character just right.
Tony probably just had Christopher kill somebody for him that had nothing to do with his dad but maybe with something else with the family it was disappointing completely.
Am I’m the only one who’s upset about the way junior was portrayed. They turned him into Fredo Corleone. In the series he was quick witted, funny, and smart. He walked in room with confidence and a always gave tony sound advice. In the movie they turned him into a joke of a wise guy.
I think it makes sense though. Junior has always been very insecure and quick to show how he’s “The Boss” in the series. Makes sense that he wasn’t respected much which is why he develops a superiority complex.
Yeah wasn’t feeling it. Only pass i could give him for having dicky wacked is if he somehow found out dicky really killed his father and it was a mob hit in retaliation.
I thought truer to the show's genius would have had Junior Soprano as Tony's biggest football fan. And then let the audience imagine what might have happened between the two to end with Junior's iconic line, "Never had the makings of a varsity athlete."
That whole scene with them doing the pinky swear reminds me of a bite off of a bronx tail and maybe the director just couldn't come up with anything original
I hope they make another movie to this because it did not show things that tony did in the series when he was young. Like when they said that tony had his own crew when he was young and said tony used to sell weed or crabs. Or when they said Dickie was drug addict. Or the things tony did to be where he is in the sopranos
They said dickie was a drug addict at the end because he had anti depressant drugs on him when he died. It was the drugs that Tony kept begging him for. It was so lame lol. I would also like to see more of Tony's crew, like when they stuck up Freech's card game.
@@michaelwachendorf2096 it was really bad that it focused so much on dickie's black crony and the mistress, 2 one off characters never mentioned in the series.
They decided to push some woke black militant side plot instead of further developing characters in the The Sopranos series like we all had expected. Smh.
One thing I did noticed, Dickie wasn't a drug addict at all not even a alcoholic, he just drank a little to stiffen his nerves but he wasn't an alcoholic. Bad temper and full of rage in a very dark personality yet charming but yet he will kill you in a heartbeat. He see what he did to his father and his girlfriend. Dickie is scary, very unpredictable just like Christopher was Christopher do violence in the heartbeat.
I LOVED the film! Couple of very minor criticisms though: Both Sil and Pussy were portrayed as much older than they would've actually been if following the series timeline. There, they were about Tony's age, or only slightly older. Also in the series, Tony & Carm were supposed to have graduated high school around 1979 (when Jim Gandolfini did in real life). Here, it'd work out to about 1975, since the 70s sequence is supposed to be 1971. And as far as that goes, there were several inconsistencies in terms of the background music, Frank Lucas's reference to Watergate (cool to see him as a character in this though -- ties it in with AMERICAN GANGSTER!), and a few other details of things that didn't happen until later on in the decade. In spite of all this though, it was a fantastic film. Can't wait for the prequel sequel...which IS moving forward!!! Likely in theaters by 2024 or so.
What about Dickie bringing war to the doorstep of the New England Crew as mentioned several times in the series? Remember when Chris and Silvio subbed the Johnny Sack hit out to the old geezers and they were eyeing up Christopher all suspicious-like? People forgetting about that?
it seems like all most people did was complain about what they didnt like. It was such a privilege to have Micheal Gandolfini play a young Tony. He did a great job and I was so wonderful to see him looking just like his dad.
Maybe it's just me but after watching today I was left with a large feeling of wanting. Some characters you would expect had really no development and other characters ending was just incredibly abrupt. Now if this was a 2 parter I would be very interested in seeing the second but since this is a one-off supposedly I'm left disappointed. A good story but just missing something for me.
@Agent of Hydra lol congratulations that's the stupidest comment I've read today. It depicted what was going on at the time nothing more. It wasn't even a central point to the movie that people thought it was going to be. Dickie mentioned it when Harold and him was chasing that black gang member. Dickie told that kid that he has taken somebody's eye out for talking to him like that.
The ending was terrible and felt inconclusive. To have him get killed over laughing at someone falling down stairs. Instead of the actual war is beyond ridiculous.
Lol did you guys ever watch the Sopranos? David Chase is a big fan of anti-climax. It's largely the point of the show. Gangsters don't get grand culminations of character and total narrative fulfilment - they get shot in the back of the head because they said the wrong thing to the wrong person at the wrong time. Brutal, senseless death and destruction at all times. That's the whole idea. It's evil. Remember in season 2 of the show, with all that ramping up of tension with Richie and Tony, that felt like it could only end in a war? It ended because he hit Janice and she got pissed and shot him.

Interesting bit of viewing. Lots of replayed scenes from the series, recreations of events that were discussed or mentioned in the series, and a few surprises. No spoilers, but this isn't a story about Tony's family so much as his relationship with Christopher's father growing up. The scene is set for a Soprano takeover of the DiMeo Jersey gang interests, but not necessarily in the way it was told to Tony and by extension other characters in the show. For those who have or haven't seen it yet, look for a little toss from Chase that gives you a flash of insight into that cryptic series last scene early in the movie.
Underrated comment but yes it took me out of the film entirely. What a cartoonish version of a legendary character. The timeline felt unauthentic and they made the grounded relationships of sopranos feel obscure in relation.

Junior sanctioned the hit, the dirty cop was more than likely the trigger man. They both got what they deserved in the series with Junior becoming senile and the dirty cop getting smoked by Christopher

Exactly. I noticed there was 20 minutes left and I was like, wtf when does he become the father figure? We’re cutting it close…. Dickie’s suddenly dead. Tony’s waiting in the restaurant.

@@louier2967 True. I always wondered myself if Tony was telling the truth about that. I was hoping the movie would clarify that but it didn’t lol
I wish that could've played out
We truly don’t know if Tony lied though.
@@truthteller5521 Right, Junior had someone else pull the trigger. Maybe the cop, maybe not.

The fact that Tony was waiting for Dickie in the diner tells me he wasn't in on it.
They both got fooled
They never showed Dickie doing drugs not once...
For real they just show him drinking alcohol
That's probably the point, Christopher has no reason to blame his father Dickie for being a drug addict.

I think Paulie killed Dickie. He always made the call on the show sayin, "It's done," and he ended up being close to Christopher on the show...

You are so right Tyler! In a series you have a longer period of time to build on all the characters. The movie was good 👍
I LOVED the film!

I just watched it and didn't know much about it I thought Michael Gandolfini, did an amazing job and had no idea who he was until this video, so i'm glad I got to watch it through the lens of not knowing I even made the comment they did a great job casting this guy he is an excellent actor.
Also, Silvio was Wayyyyy over the top!
Really was expecting more but it was a good film
the actor who played silvio was absolutely horrible, jesus christ!
Yup it was lika a parody
He over did the character
@@thesupervisor3270 if he dialed it back it wouldve been so much better
