Excellent video. Made the job easy. Here's my input. When you are removing the switch unit with the 4 small tabs insert something like a feeler gauge shim in to where the tabs are. Work on the rear two first and push down on the switch unit then work on the front two. Don't try to do side by side.

Thank you for the video. My driver’s window has stopped working and it’s stuck in the down position! Will use your video to help me when I’ve got the spare part 😊

Great video, short and to the point. I want to point out that there is a small white, round clip at the end of the door handle cable (you can see it at 2:04) that must be inserted back into the black plastic door housing when you are re-assembling; otherwise, your door won't open.

A very common problem on Audi, Skoda, VW, Opel and many other german made cars.
    Due to design issues the
biggest problem I have seen is water ingress and secondly dirt ingress.
Although not a guaranteed solution this problem can be fixed without fitting a brand new switch and this solution has worked in emergency situations where a replacement switch is not available.
    1. Remove the switch as shown in the video. Prise open the top switch cover exposing the eight mechanical switches arms inside. Preferably remove all the eight switch arms and thoroughly clean the switch contacts. No special spays or solvents are generally needed, just a good clean with a rag is needed. Reassemble the switch and 9 times out of 10 it will work. The one touch function may not and not all switches may be not be equally responsive, but you should be able to open and close the windows.
    2. If this doesn't work. Remove the screws holding the window driver motor in place. Remove the motor and using a drill with suitable driver bit, close the window. A ratchet and socket or spanner will also suffice making sure a good fit as you do not want the damage the splines on the window driver coupling.

Thanks mate, just replaced my switches following your video, it went smooooth ! Only diferrence I only had 1 screw at the bottom of the panel instead of 2, i could find the flat part where the 2nd screw should have been, but no hole... Anyway, thanks a lot !

Have you any idea if you can replace individual switches on the master switch?

    • @MotoringCultureMagazine
      @MotoringCultureMagazine  2 года назад +1

The contacts for the switches are all on one circuit board, and those are the things that wear out. You could probably replace individual plastic buttons but that won't fix anything.

You mentioned near the end that the one touch function had returned. You can actually reset this yourself if it stops working:
    - press and hold the button to lower the window all the way down, then keep it depressed for about 5 seconds and release
    - press and hold the button to raise the window all the way up, then keep it depressed for about 5 seconds and release
The one touch operation should now work both up and down.
Side note - there are other cars you can do this on… I activated it on a MK1 Focus ST many years ago! 😊

I know that but, with the button broken it simply did not work.

@@MotoringCultureMagazine yes I know but I thought you meant you’d lost it on all of the windows!
