That is his wife playing violin, her name is Amanda Shires and she is a very gifted and accomplished musician in her own right. Jason used to be the lead singer for a band called Drive By Truckers. In the past he struggled with alcoholism, and a lot of his writing has a dark and melancholy tone but beautifully worded and very poetic. You really cant go wrong with anything people suggest by Jason. Amazing artist.
I've seen Jason and the 400 Unit in concert many times and watch as his songwriting and lyrics bring people to tears including grown men. Lyrics that lead us and up and down an emotional roller coaster. One if the all-time great songwriters.
