  • It is a good idea to try and feed different protein sources so that your dog gets a varied source of protein in their diet.
    Rabbit can be an easy thing to substitute in and it can usually be found in Asian or ethnic supermarkets at a reasonable price.

    The music made me cry as I watched the pups eat. It was so joyous bc my puppy of 20 wks is going to have his first rabbit for Thanksgiving. You are the first video that has shown grains added, hip-hip-hooray. Absolutely a favorite video of mine. From this pet parent to your fur family, thank you and happy 2020 holidays

      Usually try to start at the joints of any animal you are trying to portion and avoid cutting through the thicker bones when possible! Glad it was helpful!

    Thank you so much for this. We're trying to start a raw diet with our dog and I just gave her a couple of rabbit hind legs and it freaked me out that she swallowed them like that. I thought she'd be in trouble because of all the fear that's been instilled in me about bones.

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  2 года назад

      Large bones can be dangerous, but as long as your dog successfully swallowed them and has no issues using the bathroom like normal there should not be anything to worry about! This is the reason we try to cut our bone in portions into smaller pieces no though so that our dogs don't swallow entire chicken drumsticks for example. Hope that helps!

    Fantastic video.. I really enjoyed watching it. How do your dogs find the bones, especially the larger leg bones? Do they splinter or have you had any trouble with fragments getting stuck?

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  2 года назад +1

      We don’t really have any issues with bones but we do cut their food into smaller chunks now because sometimes they decide not to chew 😂

    As someone with both a netherland dwarf rabbit (the smallest breed) and a doberman pinscher that I raw feed, this has me feeling like maybe I should have them separated lol.

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  3 года назад

      It really depends on how strong your doberman’s prey drive is. Our dogs are all very gentle with our cats and foster kittens but they do still chase small animals in our yard. Sometimes your dog will take cues from you about what is appropriate for them to do but it’s always good to be careful 🤗

    Do you need to remove bone 🦴 from the rabbit 🐰 before feeding it to the dog?

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  3 года назад

      You don’t need to remove the bone, but, depending on the size of the dog, you may want to cut it into smaller pieces.

    Dude pick the rabbit up with both hands and open the hips and shoulders flat like a book. It snaps the joints cleanly and u can just slide one side of the scissors thru to finish the cut. Fold the rabbit in half backwards to snap the hips away from the spine.

      Might be a challenge when it is still a bit frozen, but that sounds like a much better way to do it! :P

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  3 года назад

      Most dogs will prefer raw. There may be some dogs that don’t like it, but our experience has been entirely positive. We personally know 7 different dogs and 5 cats that love raw feeding.

    Nice video. Are you still feeding rabbits to your dogs? If so where do you get the rabbit from?

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  2 года назад

      Not very often but we know that we can source rabbit from local Asian supermarkets. There are also several online sellers that you can source different proteins from but we tend to shop locally rather than sourcing online.

    How did you start the dogs on rabbit, how did you know they would like it?

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  3 года назад +1

      We found rabbit at a local Chinese supermarket but you can sometimes find it commercial raw dog food stores (tend to be higher end or more boutique places) or at other supermarkets. It can be a little expensive though. We didn’t know for sure they would like it but our dogs at least are not very picky about their food. You won’t really know until you try!

    Can i feed my dog cooked rabbit?

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  2 года назад +2

      You can feed any cooked but not seasoned (no salt or pepper or anything else) meat. You should not feed cooked bones of any kind because there is a high risk they will splinter when broken and chewed potentially causing internal injuries or blockages. You should know that cooking the meat will break down the proteins in the meat, so your dog will lose some of the nutritional value of the meat. Dogs and cats are perfectly capable of eating raw, uncooked meat. It is a human aversion to raw meat that makes people worried about raw feeding. Hope that helps!

    Your missing the organs and skin. Shouldn’t that be part of the diet or is this the way you bought them.

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  3 года назад

      This was meant to be a sort of starters guide (and for some reason RUclips really likes this version) but yes you should include organs and a few other things that we cover in some of our other videos. Skin isn’t necessary as it’s mostly just fat, but it can be helpful to maintain a healthy weight if your dog’s metabolism can handle it!

    • @TheStumpyBrigade
      @TheStumpyBrigade  5 лет назад +2

      Every dog needs a different portion size. Our dogs will keep eating way more than they need to be healthy. Our packs' ideal weight sits between 30-35 lbs. You are right that dogs do need organ meat; however, this video was meant to demonstrate how to butcher and portion a rabbit. Some of our other videos show a full raw meal. Eggs are also very high in fat, so we like to give them eggs every few days rather than every day to try and better maintain their ideal weights.
