Thank you for that impassioned speech that came straight from your heart. I am American and donated at the beginning of the COVID crisis. I hope this gets out to every politician who needs to see it. Theatre is integral to our lives and reminds us that we are human beings with souls and thoughts and emotions. My hope is that you will come back stronger than ever! You have my deepest respect for your leadership through this very difficult season.
Such an important message from Greg Doran: a rallying cry for the whole theatre industry. I just hope that the government listen and help this crucially important sector - it matters, economically and culturally. I hope to be back in Stratford watching a Shakespeare play soon.
An inspired and inspiring plea from a great artistic director. It should be required viewing by all politicians and those in whose hands the future of the RSC and of all our theatres, rests. I find it so saddening that all the plays I had booked for - from The Winter's Tale later this month through to the Wars of the Roses in December are now cancelled or postponed (I'm 73 so time is somewhat of the essence...) But the important thing is that it all does come back... no matter how long it takes. I am convinced that if anyone can lead this endeavour it is Greg Doran. My father and his family back to the 1600s came from Wilmcote, and I once lived not far from the theatre myself. So I have an emotional attachment to the town and the area. To imagine Stratford-upon-Avon with no theatre is beyond belief.
Dear RSC, can't you stream some of your past performances on RUclips, just like Shakespeare's Globe and National Theatre are doing? Do you realize they receive tens of thousands of donations every time they do it?
'The Boy in the Dress' could make you some money, why not release a cast recording and stream any video of the show you may have, not for free but as a donate to view stream?
