i find it interesting, how such ridiculously simple, overused and similar drum patterns can be diversified with the touch of a confident control over velocity. If you can allow a drum to breath and sing itself like this it makes a common pattern seem more personalized. Great stuff.
I now find it annoying how lazy producers are especially today in hip hop by having their hi hats be the same velocity instead of changing it to create a natural swing.
@@postRMO heres the thing, the music production market is so saturated, sadly it means that when we discover something - we should keep it to ourselves :P
Jake Griffiths that's from making gems in the garage scene,. Matlok anyway, b rocket, talk to me, treat me right boxclever , skill & talent even his dub of sincere, the drum programming on the mpc with that swing level, all them hats & rims shuffling in groove
This guy is a genius.. I was 14 years old when I discovered his album "sincere", i'm 32 now and still lovin' his works.. I remember earing this album while reading Gunm manga.. it was a great combo...
Watching this made me remember I used to do this slowing down the audio thing to record about 12 years ago and totally forgot about. Have to start doing that again. Really dope 2 part video. Cool guy too.
Thanks for making this vid. I ended up buying the sound pack. I also learned to record my patterns at 80bpm on the Mpc studio and speed it up to 130. Life has been different ever since
It sounds so much better recorded into his mic tbh. I wish he added a bit of saturation to give the feeling like it was coming out of some old speakers.
With mix-heavy oriented genres such as techno/garage/dnb etc you can afford to lay out your drum patterns early on, then tweak them later, because the track is more likely to be heard in a DJ set, rather than as it's own piece of music or in an album narrative setting
Great video, but what's with the annoying white flashes every few seconds? I guess the editor applied some effect to make us think there's a team of photographers in the studio, but left it on during the screen caps.
sick tutorial! almost definitely will be buying the pack however does anyone know if the pack comes with one shot piano/synth samples as opposed to just loops? struggling to create garage vibey piano sound through logic synthesisers. or if anyone has any suggestions on which synthesiser is best to use to create these sounds it would be much appreciated!
true legend in music production I think only producer close is K Warren , listen to Masqurade Mj Cole mixes fantastic !! then listen to K Warren remix, Out of this world !!! but I always prefer the Matlok or Boxclever or the DUB Mj Cole myself over the vocal 2 step bits of late, those who know will know, the Drums n b-line on his wild side dub on sincere was crazy, if you heard that in club back in late 98 even "be sincere" or matlok anyway drop !!! ruff tunes , unfortunately sincere 2002 didn't feature the wild side dub , talkin loud label, the dubs was in 98 on Am Pm label , matt is legend !!
Isn’t this more 2-step than UK garage? Uk garage has that 4 to the floor with some shuffling, 2-step is mostly shuffling drums with that off beat kick drum.
This is pure garage mate lay off the rock 😂 a tutorial video by a renowned garage artist from the golden era of UKG and you're trying to say its not garage? 😂

honestly took me years to get this down pat well said
very true, your grooves become more natural, snappy, well said.
I now find it annoying how lazy producers are especially today in hip hop by having their hi hats be the same velocity instead of changing it to create a natural swing.
yeah when you realise how subtle you can be its an eye opener

2:03 even the vein on his head is a waveform
Jake Griffiths that's from making gems in the garage scene,. Matlok anyway, b rocket, talk to me, treat me right boxclever , skill & talent even his dub of sincere, the drum programming on the mpc with that swing level, all them hats & rims shuffling in groove
Hahahahahaha. Brilliant.

Oh gosh, thats so smart slowing down the track go record. Gonna try that next!! Thanks.
Kilma Tempa it really works do it all the time now when making a garage track.
Watching this made me remember I used to do this slowing down the audio thing to record about 12 years ago and totally forgot about. Have to start doing that again. Really dope 2 part video. Cool guy too.

Such a talent, would love to learn how to make music like this. Uk Garage favourite producer for sure
slowing it down to record MIDI, what a good idea!
Thanks for making this vid. I ended up buying the sound pack. I also learned to record my patterns at 80bpm on the Mpc studio and speed it up to 130. Life has been different ever since

"What a selection of hats!" 😁
The rhodes part was marvellous. Big up, Matt!
Genius. I love these ethereal kinds of tunes
One of the best Logic X tutorials I've ever seen, throw in a Garage track just for a bit of flavour!

MJ COLE He's the Master still LOVE his tunes
He makes everything look effortless
Great interview with him.
It sounds so much better recorded into his mic tbh. I wish he added a bit of saturation to give the feeling like it was coming out of some old speakers.
MJ Cole is the best at these guides.

Good stuff this, thanks
Pretty cool he still hasn’t lost his magic. Smoove is still my favourite MJ Cole track
Does he have no bass in the section with the rhodes? Is it common for it just to be a beat and and progression like this?
Liked before I even watched it.. It did not disappoint.
Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks
16:19 on-wards sounds like a garage take on Smells like teen spirit
I laughed so hard, "maybe we should have a bass of some sort" and then cut to a bland low frequency sound immediately haha x
MJ Cole > J Cole, any day of the week
Nice beat
This video amazingly expand flow of my beat processing, thank you!;-)
Mmmmm absolutely the business easy mjc
those rhoooodessss!
Pretty cool beat
I always do Synths, bassline and lead synth first...drums last
With mix-heavy oriented genres such as techno/garage/dnb etc you can afford to lay out your drum patterns early on, then tweak them later, because the track is more likely to be heard in a DJ set, rather than as it's own piece of music or in an album narrative setting
Also some would say you should always do drums last, but music is completely subjective and as such so is the creation of it
weirdo.
U SHUD MAKE A GROOVE FIRST BRO (BEATS/BASSLINE) SO IT BANGS 🔥
muito bom!! very good!!
17:30 makes it look so easy
I was wondering what that bowed arrow means in some midi regions. Can someone tell me please?
What is the shortcut used @ 2:16 please? To select the take and flatten the capture recordings... anyone know?
Found it, it's Alt, Shift + U if anyone's interested.
Great video, but what's with the annoying white flashes every few seconds? I guess the editor applied some effect to make us think there's a team of photographers in the studio, but left it on during the screen caps.
fantastique
does that rhodes piano come with the sample pack? 😂
sick tutorial! almost definitely will be buying the pack however does anyone know if the pack comes with one shot piano/synth samples as opposed to just loops? struggling to create garage vibey piano sound through logic synthesisers. or if anyone has any suggestions on which synthesiser is best to use to create these sounds it would be much appreciated!
This King and Duncan Powell are the Dons of UKG..IMO

Isn’t this more 2-step than UK garage? Uk garage has that 4 to the floor with some shuffling, 2-step is mostly shuffling drums with that off beat kick drum.
