Except Kennedy as POTUS sent American advisors there and LBJ turned it into a war. EVERY war we were involved in in the 20th century, with the exception of the Gulf War we got into with a democrat in the White House.
Wow...All those people were the living legends, current heroes or villains of my childhood and by the time this film was made in '79, they were all history (maybe except for Arnold Palmer). How much more rolled under by the tides of time are they now?
@Brian Salomon Not sure what your talking about. I was amazed how interesting 1954 was and I wasn't sure as to when this was produced, which was 1979. I said nothing about Viet Nam, although congressman JFK's remarks are quite interesting ......
1954- The year I was born. Senator Kennedy advised against American involvement in Indochina (Viet Nam). Less than 10 years later he sent advisors to the conflict, and LBJ turned it into a war. McCarthy was right about the communists. They are in power in America today.
That is because the GOP let the issue of Vietnam fester for 10 years before JFK became president. IF Eisenhower had simply conquered Cuba and eliminated Castro IF Eisenhower had fully Armed South Vietnam and with American support had enabled South Vietnam to conquer North Vietnam and Cambodia while threatening China with nuclear attack if they intervened The 60s would have been much better
McCarthy was full of bullshit. He and Welch agreed NOT to bring up Fred Fisher's membership in the Lawyer's Guild that was supposedly synpathetic to Communists {they weren't}. But Joe saw that "his moment" was starting to slip away, so he tried to smear Fisher AND Welch by bringing it up before the committee. Welch let him have it {"Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator......you've done enough! Have you NO sense of decency, sir? At long last...... HAVE YOU LEFT NO SENSE OF DECENCY?"} - and as a result, the Army-McCarthy hearings "collapsed" a week later.......and McCarthy was eventually censured by the Senate (for various actions) in December 1954. He was never the same again. He finally drank himself to death in May 1957.
1:53 "Any intervention by the United States is bound to be futile". Boy, wasn't that prophetic?
I was thinking exactly the same thing.

What an amazing newsreel !!!! I would love to know when it was made, it referenced Watergate, so it's at least post 1972 .....
I noticed the copyright date, MCMLXXIX.
@@williamneumyer7147 thnx, I missed the begining :(

Brian Salomon: AKA, French Indo-China.
The copyright on this film is 1979 so yes, it’s after the Watergate break-in by the dirty tricksters.
14:00 mmm, electrified floor!

1:52 ... and then the colonialist wing prevailed, and the US went to try and make Vietnam its colony, and China too, tried, a little while later.
You must be living on Mars.
If the US wanted to colonize a nation in Asia, they would’ve chosen Japan shortly after dropping the atomic bombs. Come on, Ivan.
The USA wanted another puppet
China wanted to conquer Vietnam and failed as well thankfully
6:35 Hah! McCarthys' charges are proven now, 66 years later.
