Excellent CG. Bruce Williams has already summed up my views entirely.
+Brian Hinder Thank you Brian!
Best chronograph description and explanation I've see. Very easy to visualize and understand👍
Thank you Michael, for the kind words!
Gorging myself on older content and really enjoyed this video.
Thanks Senecal! 😉
Love this CG. I hope this type of 'movements or components explained/detailed' video becomes a regular addition to your line up. Its fascinating and informative!
+Bruce Williams Well it might be now!
Thanks for the quick and concise run down on the different types of engagement methods of chronographs. I own a "Seagull 1963 Chrono" but had no idea how it gets the job done until I cam across this video of yours. Thanks again for making this vid & welcome back!
You're very welcome Strom, i'm glad you enjoyed it!
Watch education is a true appreciation of mine for your channel. Something above and beyond than any other channel!! I greatly appreciate the educational factor of your videos. Your education and research shines!! Keep up the good work!!
Side note, I'm looking for the perfect diver chronograph. Price range $500-$2000. Any suggestions are appreciated!!
Also, I'm not partial to brands. I own a Seamaster pro, Squale 1521, Seikos, Marathons and citizens. So I am open to any suggestion.
Thank you; this was a really good intro into the clutch system
Very informational and as always a superb video!!! I learned something new about how chronographs work! I also really liked seeing your Squadra in action!!!! Thank you CG!!!
+Abdon Borges Jr You are very welcome and i'm so glad you enjoyed it!! I look forward to meeting you on Friday! :-D
Very well done and informative. Hope you are well and make more content!
Excellent video! Very clear and informative with pros and cons of each type of design. well done!
Thank you! Hopefully I can do more like this. 😳
My version goes something like this...
1-Press the top button of your chronograph
2-Witchcraft happens
3-Start timing your boiled egg.
+daltonjr LOL....I like your version....less editing work!
+daltonjr love this!
4- forgot to check your watch, over-boil your egg :D
Hi CG, I found this to be informative and answered a few questions I had about chronographs, much appreciated. Finally a comment about chronographs is not complete without a " Omeeeegggaaa Speedmmmaster Mannnnnnnn on the. Moooooonnnn!" Cheers.
+Bob FromBrisbane LOL....you are right indeed!!
very informative and educational now i myself have 3 chronographs: a swiss army ( eq with eta 7750) an omega speedy ( cal 1861) and a citizen from the 70s (in house cal 8110) one of the most compact chronos there are - all 3 i believe cam actuated
+mario siaven They are all indeed cam actuated, that is a nice set of triplets you have there! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you checking it out!
+CG AWC Channel a little late response youre very well served madam keep it up and I will follow every one of your professionally made videos.
+mario siaven thank you so very much for the kind words and support. I hope you enjoy the weekend!
That was a nice overview dude! Thnx!
Beautiful and really useful video!! Thanks for sharing!!
+Matteo Tufilli You're very welcome. Thanks for checking it out!
Really thought this was a great video. On an interesting note, the speedmaster cal. 321 was a column wheel and the switch to the 861 and 1861 went to the cam...and interestingly there is no certainty that an 861 was ever on the moon so it may only be a column wheel speedmaster that ever made it to the moon. interesting stuff, although both the 861 and 1861 have remain NASA official issue gear for missions to present.
I am amused that my Speedmaster is my only cam chrono as the CLW single pusher, Zenith EP, and Strela Sekonda all use a column wheel. Unfortunaly I have not experienced verticle/horizontal yet.
+A Gentleman's Life Yeah, I suspect the switched from the column wheel due to manufacturing and the fact that it didn't AT ALL negatively impact the efficiency of the movement. Have I told you that I love your CW Single Pusher.....because I do!
+CG AWC Channel Yeah I really think they made the switch for ease of manufacture and it is why the cal. 321 is so much rarer and more desired. I also love the Single Pusher and can't wait to get it back (a couple weeks)! I thought maybe the size or thickness would bother me but I've found that it really doesn't and the design and movement make it.
A great video. Ive been looking for a simpletons guide to chronographs, cos I'm a simpleton. Cheers
Thanks Bryn...so glad you enjoyed it!
Hi CG. Very nice vid. Very informative. Very cool. Nice to see you sneaking the JLC in there too! lol. Best regards.
Lol! Thanks JK, I appreciate that!
well explained, so clear and informative!
Thanks Fred!! 😉😊
thank you CG visual display is very illustrating -bravo for taking so much pain -that's why i like you over other watch u tube pundits -in cam system there'sa danger of train wreak ,if you press stop pusher while chrono running ,might cause damage to movement----what happened to your famous cap ?---amazing skill with computers ;substance is all that matters .primary greatness-------dear me Bravo!!!
Oh I still have my cap! 😉. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video...thank you as always for the very kind words!
Hey CG, one of the best videos about chronograph mechanics out there. Could you further explain the vertical clutch system? When the pincers are removed and both wheels come in to contact, what is causing the friction that causes the chronograph wheel, now in contact, to spin? I understand there are no teeth (unlike a lateral clutch system) so what is causing both wheels to move in sync?
Very useful and informative. Thanks!
my pleasure!
I'm sorry, did you say something? I was too busy trying to get a look at that gorgeous squadro and got totally distracted lol. Guess who's going watch shopping this weekend?
LOL!!!! really?! What do you think you're getting??? I wish I was going with you! ☺️☺️
+CG AWC Channel I really want to get the JLC master geographic but I just found out they're on back order here in Australia and it's a minimum 6 month wait! I might look at reverso, maybe the batman or possibly even a zenith. But I reckon I'm gonna try and get the JLC master geo from the United States via Tim from watchuwant.com. They have a squadro on their website, I might get that so we can be twins!
+alexcellence21 I can't believe that wait is so long! Keep me posted.....it would be awesome if we were Squadra twins! Lol.
What a great review!
Thank you!!
This is proof I'm not cut out to be a watch maker, yet so glad there are people who are. All those tiny little nuts, bolts...wheels......jewels...wait a minute, what are we talking about again? :)
LOL....you guys are so easily distracted! 😉😜
This is a great video I am very proud of you
Awww....shucks....thanks! 😉😊
Most excellent! I'm all for anything that furthers my edjumukashun pertaining to horology. Thanks CG.
Lol...I couldn't have said it any better!! 😉😉
Very good vid CG! Thx
Thank you Amintas!

+Steve Bowden You're very welcome! I'm glad you found it useful ;-)
Great! Thanks
Great Vid. I bet you have not taken that new watch off yet :)
+lord david Thank you! It only comes off every morning for a shower...and I make those pretty fast these days! LOL.
Very Informative, thanks !
you're very welcome!
Hi, do you know if the valjoux 7753 is horizontal?
by the way i use to teach Applied Mechanics at a ENgg. college -
Applied mechanics...really? That is pretty incredible AND exciting!
You lost me at "right after this." I would love your presentation it I understood any of it. I am going to rip into one of my Rolexs to see if I can find any of this inside of that baby...keep the videos coming...R.L.
Lol...thanks Robert...maybe not the Rolex though....unless it's still under warranty...then explore away! 😜
Thank you so much, that was perfect. Now, are there any watches with the vertical clutch under 2K?
+LOUIS LABRIE Longines L688.2 is Column Wheel/Vertical Clutch made by eta for Longines, in models such as the Heritage Diver 1967/Heritage Racing Chronograph 1973
+Richard Stevens That is the prefect excuse I need to buy a Longines. I've been looking to get one as Roald Amundsen(distance relative) used a Longines chronometer to get to the South Pole.
LOUIS LABRIE have a lookse www.longines.com/#!/watches/heritage-collection/l2-791-4-72-0

+LOUIS LABRIE I'm glad you liked it! Richard has given some great suggestions, let me know if you would like any more. ;-)
Makes me want to screw the back off one of my watches and start poking around
+Mark Bloom Do it! Just not on a watch you plan on wearing again....lol.
