  • Saas Fee ski resort is one of the biggest names on The Magic Pass. In this resort review, I give you my full opinions about Saas Fee ski resort. This resort has it all - slopes for all levels of skiers, a variety of skiing accommodations, and plenty of shopping and dining options. Plus, with the Magic Pass, it can be very affordable. Close to nearby Saas Almagell, you can combine your trip to Saas Fee with its partner ski resort. One highlight of Saas Fee is the Glacier where it is possible to snowboard in winter and summer.

    The Magic Pass is an exceptional value lift pass that provides access to 40 ski resorts in the winter and 21 resorts in the summer. With access to ski lifts, hikes, mountain bike trails and thermal spas from as little as 399CHF this trip is hoping to highlight some of the best features of The Magic Pass.

    I enjoy Simon's videos and commentary. I went to Saas-Fee twice in the 23/24 season. I love the village's charm, astonishing beauty, and found the villagers friendly. The long, wide cruisey pistes suit me. The Alpin Express gets very busy from about 9am with a queue time of about 25 minutes. Plattjen is less of a queue and a quicker gondola than Alpin. The cable car is obviously quite quick but the queue can be long. I find it a pain to have to walk so far to the funicular. For me, the lift system lets Saas Fee down. The Magic Pass is outstanding value and got 4 weeks use out of it over the season. When the snow was so-so in Grimentz-Zinal, it wasn't far to drive to other places like Lauchernalp and Saas-Fee where the snow was better due to the higher altitudes.

      Thanks Mike, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on Saas Fee. I’m actually going to give Saas another try this year… so I’ll hopefully have an update or two about the resort. I left last time feeling similar to you… the lifts is what let’s it down. Hopefully with more time and a second chance I may be able to navigate it more efficiently.

      @@Simonjburgess Zermatt is amazing ! As agressive begginer I loved the Gornergrat area ! Lots of blue and red runs ! For people with more experience I would recommend Matterhorn glaciar ! The view is incredible and you are skiing literally in ice ! I went there but get a little bit scared in a black run though ! Is so big that you can’t do all in one day ! 2/3 days to run all over !

    Ah… good call on the TBars. I had never thought about the wind…
    I can’t even remember the last time I rode one… which is good as I try to avoid them at all costs! 🤣

      Haha you and most people! I don’t think they are too bad really some resorts on this trip only had t-bars

    • @dirkbettels1249
      @dirkbettels1249 2 года назад

      T-bars are easier to maintain when on glaciers, since the pylons need to be moved frequently.

    I love Saas-Fee but there's a big BUT coming...the major lift investment was made 20 years ago and the system is looking a bit antiquated now. Desperately needs a linking chairlift from the nursery slopes up to the Gletschergrotte area which, I think, would better integrate 'left' and 'right' of the mountain. Plattjen is a much under-rated area (but don't tell anyone!). The place still draws me back though - next trip in April!

    • @Simonjburgess
      @Simonjburgess  2 года назад

      Great to get your input Andrew! I completely agree with you, a couple of lifts to link parts of the resort better and it would feel like such a better resort. Fantastic you will make it back to Saas Fee this April. I’d like to get back there this summer

    I have the Magic Pass for this season, so very pleased i stumbled on your series, great job. Having been to Sass Fee quite a bit, I would echo what others have noted re the benefits of cable cars in the cold. I'd also add that cable cars are better for taking those with tired legs down from the cruisy top runs at the end of the day (especially kids). For families it's a hard resort to beat (particularly later in the season when it's warmer/sunnier but still with great snow) - all runs end in the same place, no cars, lots of non-ski activities, great restaurants etc. etc. Can see how the mountain could get a little frustrating on a board though - especially if the snow parks are closed!

      Thanks for the balanced comment. That’s one of the reasons I love making these videos… obviously my needs and perspective are different to others (I.e. those with families). I’m glad you’ve enjoyed your trips there and I’m even more stoked that you have the Magic Pass this winter. Do you have plans to explore a few different resorts?

      @@Simonjburgess Yeah I remember using those t-bars, one time in October they both broke and the only option was for a piste basher to come down with a bucket to take people back to the underground train. What did you think of the town itself?

      Yes, there are two and both have really nice red pistes beneath them. Chairlifts don't do well on glaciers compared to T-bars.

      @@dirkbettels1249 I certainly see the reason for not having them on the glacier.. where is the 2nd chairlift? From memory there is the one near piste 11 and Langflüh lift… didn’t see the second.
