Flaine Powder Day
Flaine is a resort that you can trust to deliver in the late season when many other European ski resorts are thinking of summer. The Easter Holidays is normally slush time but Flaine delivered epic conditions time and again. Here is another insanely good day in Flaine where I explore some of the incredible conditions.

Les Carroz Grand Massif Ski Resort Guide
Просмотров 15016 часов назад
The Grand Massif is one of my favourite combined ski areas and Les Carroz may just be the best resort to base yourself in to explore the entire Grand Massif. Locally, Les Carroz has the highest village, modern lifts, trails for all abilities and one of the best terrain parks in the Grand Massif. Les Carroz packs a punch as a smaller ski area that will keep most people entertained for a week or ...
Upgrade or Not? Arcteryx Kopec Mid GTX Unboxing and Comparison!
Просмотров 615День назад
I have loved the Arcteryx Aerios Mid GTX walking shoes over the past two years and when it was time to replace them I wanted the same shoe. It's fair to say that Arcteryx do not stand still and in the last two years they have upgraded the Aerios to the Kopec Mid GTX. In this video, I unbox the Kopec Mid and Shoe and compare the features to the Aerios shoes I have been using. Thanks for watching...

Hi sir, nice vid enjoyed it!!
Sigma sane
Hi sir, your skiing skills are very cool (Enjoyed lessons)
Hi tyler
Hi sir
Wowsers does that look amazing! Anything on Epic pass out there buddy?!
Flaine is sick! Not on Epic though! You should head to Andermatt where I made my videos in previous seasons… plenty of good stuff there also
@@Simonjburgess some day
There is something perfect about fresh snow on top of a groomed piste.
So much fun. Used to love instructor training at Sun Peaks. First lift, bit of fresh on piste and just blast it
looks sick there simon
I love Flaine mate. It’s so good. You got anything booked for this year?
Hey Simon, I tried the Aerios Mid GTX and I experienced a lot of heel slippage. I wonder if you've experienced the same and if the Kopec has the same flaw?
Hey thanks for watching and getting in touch. I haven’t experienced heel slip on either pair. Could just be a fit for your foot issue. I do lace them all the way including the top loops which pulls them in a bit snugger. If in doubt I would get into a shop and wear them for a while.
What a twisty missrible man
Vas-y moi et ma classe ont parti en pejo l'année dernière.
Nice, how did you find Pejo? I loved it

thanks - was just looking into these! if there was one shoe that does it all - would that be the mid version? never been hiking in the winter or in snowy conditions, this season will be my first,
If you are planning more serious hiking in winter conditions then I’d go for something firmer that could take a crampon. These meet all of my needs, walking in the Lakes, and in snow around the ski resorts I visit. I wouldn’t wear it ascending a mountain in snow. The fit of the mid and low is very similar. The mid just offers a bit more weather protection

How you been?

This is an excellent walk, we just did this loop a few days ago. 😊
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the walk when you completed it. What is next on your list?
thanks a lot! also interested in a low version in depth review
No worries, I’ll try and get that one sorted for you 👍 is there anything particularly that you’d like to know?
@@Simonjburgess there is not yet a single video review of the low shoe. general shots and info’s are interesting. thanks a lot!

“Better not crash” me: that’s the best time to crash
😂😂😂 soft landing to be fair
I’ve skied all over Italy but keep returning to MdC, nowhere like it, 5 lifts out of resort means virtually NO queues
Def agree it’s up there with the best. When you know the resort you start to avoid the peak traffic and hotspots. Will you be going back this season?
@@Simonjburgess yes, we always stay at the Hotel Diana just in front of the stadium, we went to Cortina last year which I thought was vastly overrated, not one hotel in the whole resort with ski-in ski-out facilities
@@derekbarnes370 nice. That means you are pretty central to everything there. Hope you enjoy the trip. Noted about Cortina.. I prefer the Cortina in Japan, epic!

Thirlmere clears, it's good a beautiful river
Thirlmere is great. I do have a soft spot for Bassenthwaite as I pass it nearly every day
You look familiar, but I can't seem to put my finger on where.
Nice man, I think you need some flashy laces for the low's lol. I'll be checking them out, I'm in the market for a new pair of walking shoes... light weight and durable sound great! Thanks for the info.
Yeah I went boring on those ones! Next time i'll go all out on the Orange. If you can find somewhere to try them they are worth a shot... been very good for my uses, hopefully would work for you also. You must be getting plans ready for winter now?
What do think about them if comparing to OnCloudsurfer waterproof?
@@Mrupmind haven’t use the Cloudsurfer but I used to have On running shoes… really comfy but whenever I ran on gravel the stones would get stuck in the holes in the sole. I assume it would be the same with the walking shoes.
Got up Yoke today from Kentmere ... made it as far as Ill Bell but turned back before Froswick ... (I couldn't see a thing.)
Ah sorry to hear that the views sucked! Well done for getting Yoke and Ill Bell. Luckily Froswick will still be there for the next time
The lift right next to it, "sky express", accesses all of this terrain and much much more.
Agreed. Sky Express also a great lift, especially given links from there over to Nevada. Canyon accesses these runs directly, and … at peak times often has a shorter queue than Sky. Although to be fair the area can become a bit of a bottleneck for queues
@@Simonjburgess Agreed!
Steeper slope 😃
Ok, I’ll try that, thanks!
Yo super nice and crisp video! I spend a lot of time skiing on Gutsch, the other side of the resort as i thought it was way easier, but these reds and blacks look super wide with short connecting slopes. Would you say it’s a good one to try given that i’m quite comfortable with red slopes?
@@alexdigiuseppe6898 the red is well worth testing yourself on. The upper section under the lift station is narrow and can be a bit tricky if it’s busy or conditions are naff… but after that it’s such a nice run… some great views if you get tired legs and want to chill for a bit!
Marvel (green) and Sairon (blue) are the best beginner pistes in the whole GM.
@@EquuleusPictor TBF that’s not a bad shout at all. Morillon is a great place to learn and those runs certainly a big part of why
I am considering buying one of the taka and highpath splitboard, which one do you think is better?
Personally I haven’t ridden the highpath in either Split or Solid. The decision will ultimately depend on where you want to ride and the typical conditions for there. Taka was great for me, especially on days with fresh snow. Had plenty of float with little effort
Losing your board is not important. do not hurt other people
@@베로니카의투자생활 agreed, can confirm nobody was hurt.
Thanks
Thanks so much! 🫶
Is that the one you can access from Reno, Nevada? If so, I spent 2003 new years eve there. Snowboarding in the day, and casinos at night was epic... clearly my mind is a little foggy on the whole experience 🤣
Yes, Heavenly is accessible from both California and Nevada… I managed to avoid the casinos but remember eating a lot of ribs!
would have loved to go there
It’s one of my favourite resorts for sure, add it to the list
Hi Simon, hope you are well.. I’m going to Whistler Blackcomb this winter
All good mate, how are you doing? Buzzing for you! That’ll be so good. Are you going for the season?
@@Simonjburgess Yes all good thanks mate.. I am going for the whole winter, working in the ski school as a Denmaster (Looking after the kids who don’t want to ski or board). Then hopefully get my CASI LEVEL 1 and Level 2.
@@JosephsSnowboardChannelthat’s exciting! Buzzing for you. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on
Hi so the resorts are connected? Between Andermatt and Sedrun? And from this year as well as Disentis?
Yes, either by lifts or the train service that allows you to travel between the resorts. Are you planning to visit this year?
@@Simonjburgess yes I am planning or Andermatt or Sankt Moritz
I don’t have a question about heavenly, but I want to ask does this video mean your coming back to Tahoe!
Sadly not this year Cameron
@@Simonjburgess bummer, but I can’t wait for the moment it finally happens, if it ever does!
@@Simonjburgess thank you for responding, can’t wait for the next video!
@@cameronwood9276 definitely on my radar. I’d love to visit Heavenly again but also Palisades and Mammoth would be high on my list
Latch is probably better, more steps, less accidental drops
Yeah, that’s a fair point. I find the latches are more fiddly if you want to change on the go and if wearing gloves… but tbf taking the time to stop and do it takes seconds not minutes
I’ve been learning how to snowboard, I have to wait until January to start again though😢
@@cameronwood9276 nice!! Good luck with the progression!
Worth it though
Always…
If it came with a leg and foot massage voucher, its a deal 🤣
This exactly… you don’t need to spend £200+ to get quality these days
I enjoy Simon's videos and commentary. I went to Saas-Fee twice in the 23/24 season. I love the village's charm, astonishing beauty, and found the villagers friendly. The long, wide cruisey pistes suit me. The Alpin Express gets very busy from about 9am with a queue time of about 25 minutes. Plattjen is less of a queue and a quicker gondola than Alpin. The cable car is obviously quite quick but the queue can be long. I find it a pain to have to walk so far to the funicular. For me, the lift system lets Saas Fee down. The Magic Pass is outstanding value and got 4 weeks use out of it over the season. When the snow was so-so in Grimentz-Zinal, it wasn't far to drive to other places like Lauchernalp and Saas-Fee where the snow was better due to the higher altitudes.
Thanks Mike, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on Saas Fee. I’m actually going to give Saas another try this year… so I’ll hopefully have an update or two about the resort. I left last time feeling similar to you… the lifts is what let’s it down. Hopefully with more time and a second chance I may be able to navigate it more efficiently.
i ride 165W and im 1,80 96KG as well however with all my gear I weigh over 110, is true is more manageable however stability on carving and high speed is not possible with my wight with a board so small. also I my feet is huge 11,5 US
Yeah it’s all personal preference and what works for one isn’t necessarily the best choice for someone else. I couldn’t get over how good of an all round board and size this was for me…. What board do you ride?
There is an additional knock on problem from Chariande 2 being closed. Anyone who wants to make a step up from the beginner runs in the 1600 area has to go to on the Chariande express to tete des saix. The 'Blue' run from the top here, Perce Niege is narrow and quite steep for a blue, and is usually full of moguls by lunch time. On busy weeks this run is absolute carnage. Packed, with beginners falling all over the place and frankly dangerous. Chariande 2 (used to) drop people below this run, allowing for a nice step up from beginner level. Without this, the step up from beginner to skiing Perce Niege from the top is significant, and also Perce Niece is just way too busy. I always take beginners to Morillon now, and usually go there myself in busy weeks, although with warming, the height of this resort is also becoming a problem. And yes, the Colouvrier run is low. Snow is nearly always rubbish, and I never ski that run from Samoens. Seems like was a costly mistake to build this lift. Also, Samoens village is ever expanding, new hotels every year, with all these extra people, those holiday queues for Chariande express (and indeed for the Grand Massiff express from the village) are only going to get bigger.
@@standardgeography2263 thanks for this! I’m glad I’m not the only one who see’s there is a problem to solve in Samoëns. Completely right about Morillon being a nice step up with the blues there. Nice that it’s linked to Samoëns by bus. But equally sad that the runs below the gondola now seem untenable. Fingers crossed that Samoëns can see the light and replace the Chariande 2 as a priority!
I walked it last year. A very enjoyable walk, I went straight up the nose and over the top. A good little fell with a nice view down to Windermere lake. Andy H
I'm a truck driver from the US trying to find a job in new zealand but i'm having trouble finding anything
Good Luck with your job search. Wish you well!
Thanks for your guide. We're thinking of Les Carroz for Feb'25. We were over at Villars / Le Chamossaire this year and as relative beginners, it was ideal. Les Carroz seems to have a nice mix too.
Thanks for watching. You won’t be disappointed with Les Carroz. I think there is enough to get on with for budding intermediates/beginners… especially when you consider Morillon and Samoëns nearby too. If you get any questions nearer the time send them my way and if I can help I will
@@Simonjburgess very kind of you, thanks. We enjoyed following your channel last season, especially when the Grand Massif was dumped on heavily, fairly late in the season?! That is a question actually - I notice the runs at Carroz are a little lower than even Villars. How safe are we mid-Feb for decent coverage?
@@bhwhprods good question. Obviously each season is different… Morillon for example had no snow below the gondola last season which was rubbish… no runs back to the village. As for Les Carroz, you could ride to the bottom of Le Kedeuze, right through until the last weeks of the season. If conditions are worse, you will be able to take the gondola up and get over to Samöens and Flaine. Queues to Flaine can be hectic Feb half term though… so depending on your dates, expect a few lift lines at Vernant, Grand Vans and the Tete de Saix to leave Carroz.
@@bhwhprods yes, I was really lucky with the conditions in April! Flaine is fantastic for late season snow. I hope that you can get some fantastic Feb conditions
Superb walk bruv - new season incoming too 🙏⚽️
Just on way back from the ground. Great day and hopefully start of a positive season. How you doing? Thanks as always for watching.
Ah nice one, getting to watch the game at Emirates 👍 Am doing ok my friend. Just happy memories about my trip along that ridge, Ullock Pike etc, to Skiddaw - one of my favourites 👌 (was a long time ago, so nice to watch your video).
Good video. I’ve done Dodd as a single, but looking to go up the steep path to Carl side next time. Not quite up to doing 4 in 1 yet
@@Ksmyth4792 nice, I like that Dodd walk as a single. Honestly.., you won’t be adding much to walk the ridge to Ullock Pike and Long Side. It’s a fairly mellow walk along the ridge. Whatever you decide… good luck and thanks for watching!
