How Hard is it to Beat Borderlands as a Scavenger?

- Since the Borderlands 2 version of this challenge was super interesting (and fun) I wanted to try it in Borderlands. Borderlands 1 seems to have way less loot-able scavenger sources, but offsets that with way better drop rates. Overall, the run felt relatively normal, until the mid-end game, where I was getting way fewer drops, and I had to rely on under-leveled gear. And as usual, it was super interesting to fully explore the maps for the first time and learn what cool drops you can get from different sources.
Borderlands 1 feels like such a large game, until I looked at the total play-through time of 7:50. However, that's a sign that it's a great game, and I already want to do another play-through or TVHM.
I managed to fix my grammar a bit, but my derpy pronunciation strikes back at the end of the video. I know how to pronounce "Especially" but I've always said it weird, so just bear with me here.
I have a bad speech impediment so I struggle with lots of words too.
It’s alright love ur content man :)!
If you weren't already aware, if this is the remastered version, savequitting introduces a memory leak, which is why your game lags after a while.
Good to know. I kind of figured it was something like that, considering all Borderlands code is just spaghetti.
I love bl1’s loot pool, the randomness of finding a legendary unforgiven masher in a toilet is one of my greatest memories from that game. I like farming in 2 but I like the randomness. Also I feel like the first game has much more variation
That's a pretty crazy drop. I haven't played enough BL1 in my life to have a crazy drop like that, but I also really like the drop rates in BL1. And I think it feels better that both games have different drop rates and pools, as it makes each feel super unique.
I don't know why I found that moment with your dad claiming responsibility pretty wholesome ,great run
Thank you! My dad is a pretty awesome guy, and we used to do a ton of BL2 runs together, but he's way busier recently, and I've been working on videos, so out schedules don't overlap, but I am hoping to do some sort of co-op BL run with him sometime. I do have a video of us launching a nuke in FO76 though, and that was a great time!
Borderlands 1 has an interesting feature where some piles and lockers are guaranteed to drop an item, which might explain why drop rates felt better in general. Also, I think the locker where you found the legendary revolver was one of those.
That makes a lot of sense now. I remember there's a room in the Claptrap DLC after you kill General Knoxx the first time that has a ton of lockers with really good loot, and that explains it.
I remember my first playthrough finding a Hellfire in a locker. Went out of my way to check that locker on every future playthrough!
And I would too, but I think this run was my first time I got a legendary from a locker. I usually get them from chests, I'm rarely that lucky.
I remember once finding the legendary caustic revolver (maybe one of the best guns in the game? any variant always slayed) in a locker playing BL1 15 years ago.
Of course that meant that ever since then, I have to open every...single..container.
I haven't gotten to use all of the legendary pistols in the game yet, but that one is amazing, especially because I believe corrosion makes enemies take more damage, or something like that. Since legendary drop chance does increase with level, the last level's containers can drop some neat stuff.
Elemental Lilith and barrels, nice to see things stay the same.
I haven't played Lilith in a super long time, and I have no clue how I forgot about this unfortunate combo.
This is an immensely enjoyable episode, great fun, i loved it
Thank you very much!
Finding mashers and double anarchys in the wild is crazy my runs are never that smooth and usually im not doing a challenge run
The crazy thing is that I didn't even know that piles could drop mashers. Learning new weird stuff like that is one of the best parts of doing these runs.
seriously, the double anarchy made me lose it
I considered not using it, because an insane drop like that feels like cheating, but it carried me so I can't complain.
Petition to get this man a gaming pc that actually rips
I'm pretty sure that's YT's compression ruining the quality, because the video file looks fine. The funny thing is that I have a really good pc (for being 6 years old), but I am planning to get a new one later this year, because making massive videos makes my computer a little laggy now.
I remember in earls scrapyard the first scag pile always drops an item, even got a legendary once
It was amazing to watch this during the premier! Amazing content as always man, keep it up!
I'm glad you could be there, I really appreciate it!
i'm pretty sure that first shield is almost always there. i typically use that shield if i didn't get one that heals from zeds shop since it's always a healing shield when i get it.
I'm glad you hate so many of the bosses as I do. I have NEVER beaten Mad Mel without dying or losing my vehicle and I always have to cheese him from that ramp. And yes, turrets suck
I really think they are well made bosses, they just need to be balanced a bit better (mostly Bonehead and Mad Mel). As for turrets, someone decided that's what should have the best AI in the game.
Hey! Havent been watching for long but recently have been really enjoying your videos. Your effort is noticed by me :]
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like them!
@@LookIntoGaming Of course! I’ve been watching a lot of smaller channels for borderlands content and have not been disappointed. Some of the most entertaining videos I watch are from smaller channels. I truly hope that you get nothing but the best from the algorithm!
Thank you very much! I also watch mostly small channels that do challenge runs in games, as those are some of the most well-made videos.
@@LookIntoGaming Agreed.
Was thinking I've seen this already but double checked on that. Bet 3 would be easy but man, TPS might be a different beast.
I'm super interested to see how TPS is going to go. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure there are tons of lockers in the industrial areas, so I think it won't be too bad. Don't know about TPS pile drop rate though. And I have a feeling BL3 will be super easy too. I just need to do some testing to make sure.
Ooooooo, I’d love to see a presequel run for this challenge
That's the plan for the next Borderlands run! I'm also super interested to see how it goes!
@@LookIntoGaming goodluck, presequel is one of my favs and it has some fun uniques! With of course the snowball being my fav
I love playing TPS for a normal run, and I am excited to start this run!
Borderlands challenge runs;
No Turning camera.
Semi-pacifist.
Melee only run.
Worst gun only run.
No armour run.
No skill run.
Or just mix and match things together for extra challenge!
I've seen these done in BL2, but I definitely think it would be neat to try them in BL1, but I have a lot of stuff planned before my next BL1 video.
BL1 anarchy SMGs are so broken I use them to get in the face of enemies and crit them until I get to the guardians.
I know, I forgot about that until this run, but that means I need to play more BL1.
Crazy earls scrapyard has piles for guaranteed items
That's very interesting. I wonder if that's why I got that class mod. I would also guess that's unique to BL1, seeing as I've never heard about it before.
The double anarchy is the best non elemental smg in the game
It's one of my favorite smgs, besides the Bone Shredder, of course. I still need to try out all the legendary ones, because I don't play enough BL1.
I don't disagree at all, i mean the episode is called 'How hard is it to beat Borderlands as a scavenger' so using scavenger mission weapons makes perfect sense
I believe you that you found a class mod in a locker in the Dahl headlands, i've found plenty of gear in lockers while playing BL1
That's why I thought they would be perfect for this run, but the Double Anarchy was overpowered. And I never realized the insane quality of loot you can get in lockers in this game, especially compared to BL2. I really need to play more to see what other cool drops I can get from lockers.
Can't wait for you to farm Crazy Earl's trash for grenade and class mods
Crazy Earl's Scrapyard had less piles and lockers than you would think. There are way less piles than BL2 in this game, but better drops. I also don't farm the same zones, unless I'm really desperate.
@@LookIntoGaming
there are piles in the scrapyard that guaranteed drop class mods. FYI.
That would explain the purple one I got. It's also a bizarre place to have guaranteed class mod drops, but it's neat to know.
so with your last statement about the guns and how you like them but arnt nostalgic about them, it might be because they feel quite real compared to the rest of the seires because i also have that feeling, i also unironically think the bl1 guns feel the best out of all of them
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Some of BL2 guns also feel a little realistic, and they also feel good to use, just in a different way, it's hard to describe. But yeah, the feeling of the guns in BL1 is one thing that keeps drawing me back to it.
@@LookIntoGaming its also the reason i see tps + bl1 great for yearly playthroughs like i useally go and play bl1 for 1 playthrough around the start of August and im currently playing tps rn
Interesting that you've got a schedule for playing the BL games, but I thing that playing all the BL games in a loop is a great way to keep the gameplay fresh and fun.
@@LookIntoGaming i also participate in the borderlands hunt so depending on what is coming up is what one i play like borderlands 2 earlyer this year until the hunt and now i would be playing bl3 if it wasnt for tps
That's really cool! I just rotate between games based on what challenge is next, and because ADHD.
My guess is pistols are most used
Borderlands 1 is actually very generous with drops in the early-game. I got a shotgun pretty early on, and a sniper a bit after that. But yeah, mostly pistols, mainly because of an OP revolver I got.
YOU R GOOD
Thank you!
Ooooo new video
Yes.
Borderlands 3 next?
I'm working on a video for another game, but TPS will be next, then BL3.
why can't you take weapons off of enemy's since you would be scavenging the weapons off of their corpse
Although that is technically scavenging, I wanted to do a run that doesn't use enemy and chest loot, as their loot is common and on level. I wanted to see how the game would go with a limited loot source.
fair
please do only legendaries run in BL1
After this run, I started actually considering it. The main issue is that there are no dedicated drops in BL1, so I would need to test farming enemies like 9 Toes, or farming chests, so I'll see.
@@LookIntoGaming Great! Hope to see it.
U gotta add some background music to these. Feels almost awkward when you aren't talking
I did use music from BL1 as the BGM, but it's difficult to balance the game sounds, my voice and the BGM. This is one thing I'm always trying to improve on, and the true fix is just adding a quick voice over for those parts.
@@LookIntoGaming as a music producer I definitely respect the struggle with audio mixing that's valid. But yeah def just filling or cutting out the dead air might be a better fix lol I guess my brain just more music oriented.
I understand. Listening to the videos again, it does sounds weird, but I don't know if adding a quick voice over that sounds slightly different from the rest of the video would make it worse or not.
@@LookIntoGaming I wouldn't bother with it at this point haha it doesn't really take away from the video that much just for future videos something to think Abt ig
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
you get it@@LookIntoGaming
I realized it sounds weird in the video, but I just got used to it in the run.
Understandable that run definitely looked interesting.@@LookIntoGaming
You sound soo much like EazySpeezy
I'll take that. Another person said I sound like NileRed, and I can definitely hear the similarities.
idk pretty hard maybe
It actually wasn't too bad, but the long intervals between new gear made some parts difficult.
