@Eren Jaeger if you see their last 4 matches though, Medvedev leads 3 to 1 and Djokovic barely scampered through the one he won at ATP cup 2020. So Medvedev is going to be super tough even for a fit Djokovic let alone an "injured" one.
I actually felt really bad for Rublev. You can tell he was trying so hard throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Medvedev, but couldn't get the edge over him. Medvedev is just way too consistent and was able to absorb Rublev's power.
Me too..i was kinda hoping rublev could win this time😪😪..anyway it was a very great match especially set1..too bad rublev could not match medvedev's intensity and consistency..but russian men's tennis looks bright
It's not about whether it's Medvedev or not, Rublev's grunt stroke actually does not work against any top players. They hold high quality baseline strokes and limit Rublev's play, while he lacks the versatility to turn it around.
It was also hot as shit today at the tournament. The same went for the Pegula - Brady match - Pegula was just dying in the heat - moving slow, hitting weak, and not able to chase down normal balls.
Rublev was the dark horse to lift the trophy... for me at least. No one hits the ball consistently harder and flatter than him on tour. And he usually proceeds to ruthlessly demolish his weaker opponents. Today he got a taste of his own medicine. The level of play from Medvedev was insane! You can't overstate that. What's brilliant about Danii, in addition to his unconventionality is...he's a genuine problem solver. The tennis court and his opponents to the cerebral Russian, is a giant puzzle to solve and dominate.

He needed to come to net more with better volleys or swing volleys. He exerted all his energy trying to over power Daniil and hit through him and it completely drained him in the process.
I think insane footwork separates the very best players from the other top players and Medvedev has footwork like Djokovic or Nadal. If he stays healthy, Medvedev will be top 5 for many years to come regardless the upcoming guys like DeMinaur, Alliasme, Rublev or Sinner.
@@melfox215 this is very true but you also need big weapons. Ferrer had some of the best footwork which kept him at the top but had no major weapons so could never really beat the top guys or win majors. So while yes Medvedev has the footwork he also has huge ground strokes and a big serve along with consistency. All that combined makes him great and a real contender for majors. Rublev has the stokes not the footwork, De Minaur has the footwork not the strokes, Alliasme has both but lacks consistency, same with Sinner. To me Sinner has the most potential out of all of them though I do love them all.
Rublev indeed got much love and hopes but hes not even close to Med level. Consistency, endurance, strong mentality, and clever strategy, Med has them all. Rublev's hard hitting groundstrokes seem harmless to such a player.
Medvedev vs Rublev is turning into Federer vs Wawrinka kinda match-up. Stan used to do what rublev did too by just hitting as hard as he can without any variety and also with the respecting their fellow countryman thing. Hope rublev will be able to turn this match-up around if he wants to be a title contender.

Rubes needs a diff approach vs Dani, he cannot bully him like most players as his D is too good. Dani just literally did a brick wall on him today and it’s been like this pretty much in prev matches. He needs more variety against better players as ball bashing against a wall will only run him to the ground.
