    Even if Rafa makes it past Tsitsipas, he'll have a VERY hard time against Medveded. My man just crushed bweeeeeh here, and Rublev has been in tremendous form this season. The scoreboard is a testament to Medvedev's form right now.

      @Eren Jaeger never said it would be easy match
      Ofcourse it will be tough
      But to defeat Novak in best of 5 at AO on rod laver arena is the toughest challenge in tennis (excluding Rafa at rg ofcourse)
      So even if Novak is partiality injured he will be tough to beat
      Mind you he has won every ao in which he has reached the semi

    • @21crus1
      @21crus1 3 года назад +11

      @Eren Jaeger if you see their last 4 matches though, Medvedev leads 3 to 1 and Djokovic barely scampered through the one he won at ATP cup 2020. So Medvedev is going to be super tough even for a fit Djokovic let alone an "injured" one.

    I actually felt really bad for Rublev. You can tell he was trying so hard throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Medvedev, but couldn't get the edge over him. Medvedev is just way too consistent and was able to absorb Rublev's power.

      It's not about whether it's Medvedev or not, Rublev's grunt stroke actually does not work against any top players. They hold high quality baseline strokes and limit Rublev's play, while he lacks the versatility to turn it around.

    Rublev was the dark horse to lift the trophy... for me at least. No one hits the ball consistently harder and flatter than him on tour. And he usually proceeds to ruthlessly demolish his weaker opponents. Today he got a taste of his own medicine.
    The level of play from Medvedev was insane! You can't overstate that. What's brilliant about Danii, in addition to his unconventionality is...he's a genuine problem solver. The tennis court and his opponents to the cerebral Russian, is a giant puzzle to solve and dominate.

The same with Rublev.. He will never change his style because he trained his game like this all his life.. All.he can do is only to hit even harder. I felt bad for Rublev he was putting his all into every shot, it’s just nearly impossible to hit through Medvedev. Medvedev was absorbing all his pace no issue and I think Rublev isn’t use to that. He needed to come to net more with better volleys or swing volleys. He exerted all his energy trying to over power Daniil and hit through him and it completely drained him in the process.

    • @melfox215
      @melfox215 3 года назад

      I think insane footwork separates the very best players from the other top players and Medvedev has footwork like Djokovic or Nadal. If he stays healthy, Medvedev will be top 5 for many years to come regardless the upcoming guys like DeMinaur, Alliasme, Rublev or Sinner.

    • @AFCompany
      @AFCompany 3 года назад +3

      @@melfox215 this is very true but you also need big weapons. Ferrer had some of the best footwork which kept him at the top but had no major weapons so could never really beat the top guys or win majors. So while yes Medvedev has the footwork he also has huge ground strokes and a big serve along with consistency. All that combined makes him great and a real contender for majors. Rublev has the stokes not the footwork, De Minaur has the footwork not the strokes, Alliasme has both but lacks consistency, same with Sinner. To me Sinner has the most potential out of all of them though I do love them all.

    Medvedev vs Rublev is turning into Federer vs Wawrinka kinda match-up. Stan used to do what rublev did too by just hitting as hard as he can without any variety and also with the respecting their fellow countryman thing. Of course if Roger keep declining then it is gonna be harder and harder,
      but if Roger is keeping his form at 2017 level he had a good chance beating him.
      Analyzing from the play style , Medvedev is a wall like Ferrer or Murray , he is taller and got better serve than them,but less consistent.
      However he didn't like low ball and Roger is a master of feeding low slice to the opponent's backhand ,you can see that actually worked against him last year USO when Thiem beat him in straight . Also Roger is the king of attacking tennis ,he can change up so many different shots to break Med's
      rhythm . Medvedev actually didn't meet any player so constantly at the net ,his play style work best against base liner which is the most popular style in the tour right now.

    Medvedev was a bit lucky to get past Rublev at the US Open in September... this time around it was a different story, he didn't leave any doubt.

    The only good thing about this match, with Rafa losing is that Med will be fresh for Tsitsi and hopefully Djoko in the final. Djoko's got practically a walk over in the semis.

    Rublev is never going to defeat Medvedev with his power game. He's got to play more tactically, put medvedev in difficult positions, come to the net more often, make him commit unforced errors.

    These powerful shots by Rublev are always coming back. To win against „the wall“ Medvedev, you got to mix up your game a little bit. That’s what was missing today. Almost no dropshots played.

    Rublev ball comes out so low and flat it stays in opponent’s strike zone. Easy to play against as long as you can move well. He needs more shape (height and spin)... At least for the sake of changing things up.

    Well, Rublev said it himself that the only time he beat Daniil was back when he was 10, and it wasn't even an official match. There's some kind of mental block or maybe Medvedev gameplay is just simply Rublev's kryptonite.
    But clearly you cannot outgun Medvedev. Some smart play is needed to beat him. Battle of attrition, unless you are hella consistent and have the stamina, won't work if Daniil is on the other site of the court
