- This is the Theremin my brother and I cooked up, it only took about an hour to make and set up, and half of that was dedicated to actually finding a third radio for us to use!
And there's something I forgot to mention in the video:
When setting up the Variable Transmitter, before you clip the alligator clip to the antenna, you need to disconnect the antenna from it's internal receiver... I think that's what you'd call it. Whatever the case, when you've busted open the radio, make sure you disconnect whatever the antenna would be connected to.
ALSO THIS IS IMPORTANT
Do not tune the Variable Transmitter to 1500kHz, I meant to say 1045kHz like the Fixed Transmitter.
And here's the video on how to find the Oscillating Terminal:

Do they specifically need to be 'a.m radios? And if so why? Awesome vid by the way! Found it really informative. :)
Excellent explanation! Very well documented too!
Like Emma Watson much?? Hehe, quite the stalker wall you got going there in the background. :) Thanks for the video!
Thanks a lot! Original video didn't mention that variable transmitter antenna musn't be connected to anything so my setup was wrong and didn't work. Now I'll try to resolder the antenna. Thanks again. :)
Very cool tutorial!
now i can finally start that emerson lake and palmer cover band on my tight budget.
Fun,fun fun.
I like the song,too!
Thanks Dude. Leon would be impressed.
awesome! now if only i had the motivation to actually do it! LOL
*Salute*
I used to watch Gigantor...
NICE!!
great explanation! you could take care of your volume control i guess by manually manipulating the volume on the broadcast radio. thats pretty much how it works anyway
I must also mention that not every AM radio has the difference between heterodyne and dial frequencies set to 445 KHz. My radio I use as a transmitter (Kipo KB-AC807) has around 600-700 KHz difference. So the dials setup will completely depend on the chosen radios.
GIGANTOOOOOOOOR
Dude.... fuck yeah! Thanks man.
it might um be eaiser to um buy a um moog theremin guts on um ebay.
lol good job finding this out i have a homemade one.
very well done. quite informative. i am making one right at this moment. having trouble setting the 1500 and 1045 on a dial tuner. thinkin about hitting the local flea market and grabbing some digital tuner radios.U think that would work just as well or would there be yet more interferance? also, you checkd out the drawdio thing? works on the same principle only it fits on any normal pencil. or you can use it on a paint brush with water. very cool. give it a look. keep up the good work! :)
@schetleft dude! i have that EXACT problem! haha my othre one is it only changes pitch if i touch the terminal, not when i move my had near the anntennea
And this buried the Trautonium?
I think you mean receiver, not transmitter
question: aren't theremins played with two hands - they have two metal pieces - each do something diff... - one for each hand... where is that second area in this setup?
On a traditional theremin, the second antenna/metal loop controls volume, a 3 radio theremin doesn't have that capability, at least not without serious modification
my phone radio will work?
WOAH I HAVE THE EXZACHT SAYME BEEG RAYDEOH
great guide! and youre really cute, haha. love your horrible public speaking skills :)
