Dear Poppy, After trekking around China, Back home, etc.. and us following you on the Webb, we finally went to Shenzhen then Beijing totalling 14 days from Washington state. It was a blast~!!! Thanks for kick starting my retirement.
After you explore the cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, you should go west, as far as you can. To Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, etc. Btw don't forget Nanjing in Jiangsu Province lol. These are the names of cities&provinces, but also there're lots of places of interests such as the Dunhuang Caves, Zhangjiajie etc.
It's not the real China, but really is in the actual real country of China. This is not typical Chinese scene nor lifestyle, but is a sort of traditional cultural revival like seen in many tourist areas anywhere you go. The real China is dirty, difficult, and dangerous with masses of people kept in the grind of chasing peanut wages for survival and not all gussied up for a cell phone fashion show photo shoot among gorgeous pink flower trees. lol
Hi I am a subscriber of two of you guys. I'm a native Japanese but was living in Kunming in 1999. I used to live in Chongqing also for more than one and a half years, but the climate of Kunming is really refreshing.
I enjoy your videos because both of you are natural and genuine. Being an 86 old person, I myself am unable to travel physically, but I still can enjoy places you show me. I am very grateful to both of you. God bless you and keep you safe!
Some of the youtubers/commenters here are really pathetic. This is a travel video of an individual. If you guys want to discuss politics, go some other sites like maybe Serpentza or other commentary news like Fox news and do all your China and USA bashing there. There are appropriate channels for your grievances and prejudices and you can have a really good time there venting all out. Lol
ymhktravel haha thank you, I really appreciate this comment! It blows my mind that people get all political and negative in the comment section when I’m literally just showing my travels haha. I’m not interested in discussing politics, I’m interested in showing beautiful places and culture!
What Poppy and Jordan show is that it's possible to separate politics from culture and the people who live it in these sweet little towns, and that goes not just for China but for Egypt, South Korea and all the other places that P&J have traveled. You can say whatever you want about Chinese politics but you can't say that Kunming isn't beautiful. Thanks Poppy and Jordan for showing that culture and people are beautiful and amazing everywhere. Sadly, because of politics many people are never going to think of seeing these gorgeous places and meeting the wonderful people who make it their home.
kunming acutally holds some history, played a key part of the China-America alliance during the WWII fighting against the imperial Japanese, there’s a museum called Kunming flying tigers museum shows the stories of all the brave American pilots fought in Kunming, y’all should’ve checked that out.
A good time to remember China and America were once allies! There's a dedicated museum in Tengchong where there's a lot of exhibits dedicated to the ROC NRA, communists and Americans.
Even for me I am not get used to the crowds and noises every time back from overseas , besides that everything looks awesome. You guys do respect this culture and never complain like other bias.
Hi Poppy, watching this video in the middle of the coronavirus crisis and it makes me reminisce--not that I had any China memories of my own, it's just the wonderful ones you gave us through your videos. Hope you make it back to China one day and keep giving us these "memories" of beautiful gardens, quaint villages, and of course the friendly people, through your signature tours 'off the beaten' path in China. Hope you're safe wherever you are.
So glad you girls ended up there to my hometown! I was born and live there until 18 when I left for Uni and work. This is another great video. Just a little bit more details about the birds for those who are interested. The seagulls used to travel to Indian Ocean for winter from Siberia, for centres, I guess. In 1985, a few hundred of them got lost because of wind and they somehow made it to Kunming instead. They must be surprised to find out that this place had such a pleasant weather, and was as good as, if not better than, Indian Ocean. There was a huge lake (Dian Lake), there was even a lake in the heart of the city (Green Lake where you visited), so there are plenty of food. And the people here seemed quite kind as well. Bear in mind, Kunming is 630 km away from closes beach and nearly 1900 metres above sea level. Many people here had never seen a sea in person all their life but now they had seagulls flying around them! They just treated these birds like their treasures. For the birds, it's a perfect alternative to Indian Ocean, with only half the trip to fly for! In the next year, more sea gulls came. The following year, even more... Eventually, approx. 40 thousand seagulls come from Siberia every year to this inland city on a plateau. Amazing! Don't you think so?
