The whole part of beating up George seems like a waste and ruined the story to me. All it was was an author wanting to space out there story to me and actually ruin it. all the extreme violence outcomes were a waste and just made Eric who seemed like a good guy suddenly feel like a piece of trash to. Author literally destroyed their story at that point with George and only worse when got to the last bit.
I would have been Divorced, and seriously dating Melissa.
