Harriet Tubman's Family Brought Together by Swamp Dig

- A team led by archaeologist Dr. Julie Schablitsky recently made a discovery with significant implications for one family and for American history. They found the site of Harriet Tubman’s childhood home, in a remote swamp in Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The find was especially exciting to some of Tubman’s family members, who were kept apprised of the dig’s progress. Tubman relative Douglas Mitchell told Inside Edition Digital, “It certainly adds depth and dimension to our family story.” #InsideEdition
This is something that wasn't taught in schools during Black History Month:
"As a soldier and spy for the Union Army during the Civil War, Tubman became the first woman to lead an armed military operation in the United States in what is known as the Combahee Ferry Raid".

I’m glad that it was finally found and not only that at least a decedent of Harriet Tubman can finally see it which makes me so happy!
I’m an archaeologist, but specialised in ancient history. The feeling of finding an artefact that hasn’t been touched in thousands of years, is just overwhelming.
But to be able to connect families with their ancestors, is such a special gift. Harriet is such a remarkable woman and to find physical evidence of her life in such poor environmental conditions shows the commitment of the archaeological team.
Just imagine being related to harriet Tubman..being related to a great ass hero...omg🥰🥰🥰
I agree, regardless of of ethnicity the truth of our ancestry must be carried forward...the efforts & sacrifices of the ppl before us deserve recognition along w the respect of their life struggles ultimately experienced for the generations ahead!
Incredibly devastating, but I’m so glad her family was involved and were able to experience this firsthand.
Why is it devastating???
@Enchanted Homeschool Sorry, I was referring to their ancestors devastating past but how wonderful it is to find more about them. Worded it a bit weird 😅
"Aunt Harriet, member of the family, did something nice for people"....understatement of the millennium.
That coin in value can pay off this whole expedition I bet.
Edit: did research and that coin is worth roughly $37,500.
Edit2: that’s a rough estimate based on a few eBay listings both sold and unsold. It really depends on condition and being this ones discovery point that certainly adds to the value
I did research too and it is only worth $5,000
As a coin guy, I can say right off the bat it’s not, your probably looking at something that wasn’t in the ground.I have multiple of them it also is in good shape prob 3-4-5 grand at most. Sorry to be a bummer
@@patrickjohnson5412 I’ve seen you before at enigmas coin hunts xd

That's amazing. Hard work pays off.
I was asked who i would like to talk to ever, and i have always said Harriet Tubman. Im happy this woman brought this family in, in a most respectful way.
This will hopefully be a story learned in the future for every race, so it can never happen again. Good finds to the team.
@@ATF.California why we should make harsh penalties for hate crimes or slurs
@@ATF.California ok mr lee
@@ATF.California Sadly true. What I meant was for salvery to never happen again.
@@tjeym8897 In my opinion, people need to have harsh penalties for people who do wrong hate crimes so they won't happen. If one person goes to jail for a hate crime, other "hate crimers" will take notice and hopefully not do them. I think be all strive for a better country, so why not take harsh measures to make it better in the long run?
:)

What an incredible find! History is here for us to learn from and this discovery is certainly doing just that. The discovery is also helping all these distant family members connect.

One of my childhood heroes 😊
Love it, she said it was just her Aunt being nice to people, helping someone, so know all the nice and caring things you do to people daily, how it changes their lives and yours. 💜💛💜💛💜💛
And didn't care about the dangers she faced not just as a former slave but a woman. Harriet Tubman earned the nickname "Moses".
Very nice team work! Pays off for sure
This is so amazing!
I love how this video has a good story to it
Harriet Tubman made a change in history she made a good change and she will always be on my mind , she had saved and rescued other slaves , she suffered from head trauma and that didn’t stop her from helping others 🖤.
What a great discovery!
I can't wait to see the brown signs down here that doesn't just Hariet's Underground railroad, but now we will be able to visit her home how she braved the harsh area to be free, remember Maryland was the old line state.
God bless you for your work Dr and team
What a wonderful and exciting dig! Can’t wait to see what else they find, from such a remarkable women! We’ll never forget you!

Harriet Tubman was one of my favorite studies and she was a grateful human being, I absolutely loved her!
I’m not a big fan of history but ever since I heard of Harriet Tubman it feels like she the only historian figure I actually really care/pay attention to
Harriet Tubman is an absolutely wonderful woman!
It's not the genes, it's the family that makes it special.
I'd say "learn" not really "remember." Because it's hard to remember something you never experienced, but you can always learn. And Always Always Always Remember what you Learned ❤💛💗💙

It a bad history but it there history that need to be told and told right
Every part of history is very important. It's just people today don't know how to teach it properly.
Right!
Damn I live an hour from where Harriet Tubman used to live
Archeology is the most interesting job & skill to carefully uncover & link history, raw remnants of evidences to imagine and reconstruct the area, treasure and uncover ancestors, past civilazations or even war deaths.
What an amazing find! Congratulations history in the making.
Very cool story. It’s sad, but at the same time it’s incredibly powerful.

She’s in my city of Cambridge I seen them digging up down there
Thank you great researcher Dane Calloway, I knew this story didn't make no sense. That's why young black people don't remember this story from that great-grandparents because it was never real. She is real but what they claiming that she did IS NOT!! I don't believe it's real.. after looking at them documents that I saw it makes sense why they put in her on the $20 bill because they short changed her with that book or her husband's money when she try to file to get it I can't remember but it's something down the line of that way..
Dane is going live soon to address this character.
What? I can’t even deal today I’ll been done said sum.

Where is the home
I am a 68 year old American white man, a Native of Iowa. About 30 years ago I pilgrimaged to the small white farmhouse where Harriet grew up. I also visited the National Monument dedicated to George Washington Carver in Missouri.

How do you separate real parts from dirt or rock...bruh I would not be able to tell.
You scrape in layers, taking measurements for every layer of soil removed and use a Munsell color code, eventually you get used to the coloring and can detect the different shades and even textures of soils and artifacts, its very time consuming but very rewarding
@@erinlayke ahhh
I swear the Queen was on the thumbnail.. 😂
That’s my family ❤
But where did the slave owners house go? It just magically disappeared with no remains. 🤔
Doing a quick web search this is what I found on one website: Ten acres of land were bequeathed to Ross by slave owner Anthony Thompson in the 1800s. In Thompson’s will, Ross was to be freed five years after Thompson’s death in 1836, which happened and he received the land in the early 1840s.
Lol
"It must have been really difficult to be a slave" wow real deep stuff here
