I just upgraded to the Odin 2 Portal from the OG Odin 2 and I completely disagree with you on the looks. In my opinion OG looks like a Fisher Price toy in comparison especially with the bezels on the screen. Portal with its glass front looks and feels premium and a mature design.
@@James10113520 it’s on pre-order right now, website says shipping starts end of February. They’re finishing the indiegogo backlog after the chinese new year holiday, then they will restart production for us who ordered on their website.
I had my finger on the order button for the Odin 2 for some time, I really like the look when its turned off but my focus is on the screen and in game. So I decided the screen on the Portal is to nice to pass on, I ordered the black Odin 2 Portal Max + 1tb sd card and I will have UNLIMITED POWER!!! 😈
@@RetroBreezeYT Haven't thought that far ahead yet lol, mostly just want a handheld PS2/GameCube to play my old games. Unfortunately I will be back to work soon and won't have to much time to play but it'll be ready. 😁
I don't agree about the black being boring at all. I find it weird that people want all white when it will inevitably get dirty or yellowish. I also think the other "unique" colors make the devices look cheaper and "toyish" not to mention the fact that black devices always make the screen look better as they hide or make the bezels look less obvious when they have them on a device and even when they don't like with this device the screen still looks better on a black device. Black on black all day for me.
Did I miss anything about the different models in this review? Between the Base, Pro and Max versions there's a $170 price difference, which is a pretty huge spread. Which model were you reviewing here?
Ah, good point! Mine is the Pro model. The only difference is the storage and RAM. Personally, unless you're running HD texture packs or really high-end power-user stuff, 12GB is perfectly fine. 8GB is probably fine for most normal users too. As for storage, that's preference but a whole TB would be nice to have! You can always supplement with an SD card anyway!
Interesting, I found Odin2 look like something AI would generate. As such I think Portal has more to it when it comes to character. That said my unique design award 2024 goes to GKD Bubble.
Like a lot of people, yes "all glass front" is great on PAPER, but it's 100% FORM sacrificing function. Especially since AYN doesn't provide a PROPER screen protector for it like Retroid did with their annoying all glass front RP 5, which I own and man was that a hard one to put on without getting dust and crap caught under the glass, took two tries. Even then there are air bubbles that even after a month haven't worked its way out, luckily NONE on the screen. Screen is PRISTINE. Just on the side and around the cut outs for the controls. Since the glass protector is FLAT, but the device is TECHNICALLY CURVED. So now you purposefully made a device more fragile just for looks, COOL.... And these being CHINESE companies means, you don't have reliability for "WARRANTY" issues, parts are hard to come by since it's not popular enough, and shipping for screen protectors not bought at time of sale means takes nearly a month to get to you. I hope this doesn't become a trend. It's an annoying precedent.
Agreed on all fronts. In fact, I think I'd prefer to forgo the seamless display altogether to just not have all that glass. You're right about the screen protector- it's a bummer and raises longevity questions. Did you notice how my OG Odin 2 had an anti-glare screen protector on it? I could never do that with the Portal!
@@RetroBreezeYT I sold my Odin 2 to my friend since it was a little too big for me, and got the MINI, which ironically is almost too small, RP5 is like the Goldilocks size but with a weak chip. And yes I noticed the anti-glare. I like those but you really have to hunt for the right one. So many companies have different ideas on what "MATTE" means. Some go too coarse and causes rainbowing, some go too "eggshell" which causes white washing in sunlight. I usually stick with Glass personally.
Trying to talk myself out of getting one. Got the Super5OLED mod coming eventually for my switch lite. Was hoping to use that for a while at least before wanting to upgrade to something like this.
I dunno, the curved glass of the portal, pretty stylish if you ask me. Odin 2 seems kinda plain by comparison. Also your Odin 2 is clean, you should see mine, it looks like a greasy worn mess after countless hours of playing it. The glass will prevent that over time.
@@RetroBreezeYT The AYANEO 3 has a modular 6 button attachment. I can see some companies go the Flydigi Vader 4 route and add the extra 2 buttons in the bottom right corner as handhelds get bigger. If we ever get a Retroid Pocket Flip 2, I hope they add 6 buttons too. Would help with Genesis, Saturn, N64 and fighting games. Love your content!
Wow I can't disagree more about the looks of the Portal. I feel the original Odin 2 looks like it was designed in the 80's - too chunky and too much dead space. It's all subjective though so it's up to individuals to decide!
Agreed on the design! Been feeling for a while like I'm one of the few who would have loved the same design of the Odin 2 just with an Oled screen and new controls instead of this new device.. Liked the smaller form factor, more ergonomic grips, and personally would have loved to have that clear purple or blue plastic for that retro look.
@ ITS OVER 🥳 sonic black knight 60fps on OLED!! 🔥 If you havent already tried yet, could you possibly showcase sonic unleashed for wii with the 60fps patch as well as sonic project 06 for me? Im going to get an and odin 2 portal but i cant wait to see the performance 😅.
I don't think it's as bad as people make out, there's another reviewer showing himself TRYING to smudge it up and not really being able to significantly, the glass seems quite resistant to it. Might have to do with your local environment/how sweaty or sticky your hands get.
Personally I prefer this look over the original odin 2. The original just looked too round imo, the sides were too big compared to the screen size
I think she’s a beaut too lol ❤😂

This I agree with 💯
Am I the only one who thinks this is more beautiful than every other handheld that exists?
Great video as always, can't wait for mine to arrive
Cheers Sonic! Much appreciated
@RetroBreezeYT not a problem man
Great vid order my portal 2 days ago in white I can’t wait I went with the pro
I ordered my black Pro a few days ago too, any idea when we might get the device in our hands? Most say March now, but that feels so far away! 😅
@ march sounds about right

What? You mean that if I order the odin 2 portal, it wont ship soon even with express shipping (DHL)?

Why so much storage 😅
@ Future proofing so I never ever have to think about running out of space like I usually do, and just because I can lol.
Great video, my Odin 2 Portal Pro Black coming next week!
I wish I knew when mine was coming. I ordered mine November 6 on Indiegogo.
I have a question if the black gets finger printed those the same thing happen with the other colors? Because im thinking of buying one
Great vid!
What game is at 13:41 to 14:31?
Beyond Oasis / The Story of Thor
@RetroBreezeYT Thank you!

I think the black model is the best of them, but I was referring to the Odin 2 Portal design in general being boring, regardless of colour!
the bezels disappearing with any aspect ratio is such an under appreciated feature

Anyone knows when this comes out? I’m thinking of picking this up?

Im waiting on the indigo pro, and im gonna throw on the gamecube stick cap from the Rp5, wow so fun now 😅
I'm waiting til about March to choose between this and the Evo got a RP5 til then!

Good to know 😁
Anti-glare, anti-dust, and sreem protector should solve the screen problem. Might be expensive though.
Impossible imo. The edges are curved so such a thing would be (as you say) very expensive, very delicate and very hard to apply
