    I have been watching a lot of your videos and will soon be a member of the Bang Gang. I have learned a lot from watching you and I sharpened my first knife close to 50 years ago. The difference is that since I have been watching you I have learned to do it right and the results speak for themselves. I’m not as good as you are yet and it could take years of more work to reach the level where you are but I’m going to keep watching you, learning from you and others, and working to improve my skills. Thanks for making these great teaching videos. I’ll be contributing to your channel soon.
    God bless.

    Got a few new Venev Phoenix stones. The 220 (63/50) / 700 (20/14) Plate & the 2500 (7/5) / 5000 (3/2) plate. Love the edges one can get with just those 2 plates (I also got a few other diamond and ceramic stones If i feel I need something in between). I think they might have changed the low/medium grit as my old phoenix stone was 160 & 700 If I remember right.

    These Venev matrix stones are amazing. My father brought me a full set from overseas when he went to Russia (we are Russian and live in the US). The 8x3 Dragon plates are amazing and I have gotten very good at freehand sharpening over the past couple years and these stones are amazing. I have been using them for about 2 months now and I'm highly impressed with how good they are. The only thing that I don't like a whole lot is on the last three grits of stones there is almost zero feed back and I have to be extremely carefully to keep my angle perfect because I can't feel at all if I'm off the apex. It makes it harder but at the same time it's made me a better sharpener because I hold my angles even more precisely because I'm not depending on feel to make sure I'm perfect on the bevel.

    Amazing these venev stones! How does Venev diamond compound compare to Gunny juice?

    • @abrahamkalichman6845
      @abrahamkalichman6845 5 месяцев назад

      Ginny juice is made by the same Russian enterprise. The compounds have a very small amount of mono diamond in its ingredient list. Because the diamonds are more durable but not as effective. Ginny juice has standard poly crystalline diamond, that are more effective but are weaker in durability. Both are based on a oil based product, which in effect needs a very low percentage of diamond in the overall structure .

    3:55 so this video was made before the price hike, it’s now around $300 to get one of these dragon stones. they advertise that the full grit versions have one karat of abrasive diamonds per cubic centimeter so if it were 2mm thick on an 8”x3” plate then there’s only 19 karat of abrasive diamonds per side. when I look online i can find 25 karat of abrasive diamonds in any grit size of my choice for $10. so if someone could just diy the resin and make a video about it then none of us would have to pay $300 we could make our own for under $20

    Hey bud, in a moment of weakness I just bought the Benchmade Bugout with the aluminum scales in M390. Once it arrives, I will want to profile it with my own edge. I recently picked up the 240/400 Venev Dragon stones. I don't have much experience with M390. I was wondering if that 240 Venev would be coarse enough to do the profiling, or if I should start with my UltaSharp coarse diamond stone. If I did that, would I then go to the 240 then the 400, or skip the 240? Also, my coarse UltraSharp is pretty worn in (not bad), so didn't know if it might not even be that much more coarse than the 240 Venev. Just wanted to get your thoughts on stone progression before I dig in. Thanks!

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  2 года назад

      The 240 will work. I've Definitely used it many times, it will take a bit more time than the lower grits like the 100 but will still work fine. You Definitely want to start with your lowest grit to make work faster while setting your new angle and bevel, make sure everything is perfect before moving to the next stone, that way the next stone will go faster. The farther you lay your angle back the longer it will take

    • @MrEric0822
      @MrEric0822 2 года назад

      @@NeevesKnivesI’m good on stone progression and doing the major work on the first stone. Just didn’t know if the Venev 240 could handle M390 or if I needed to use that UltraSharp 300. I’ll go with the Venev just for something different. Thanks!

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  2 года назад +1

      @@MrEric0822 yeah the venev stones are the best for m390, a diamond plate would be just the same with a low grit like that, if you 300 grt is fresh and very coarse still then it might be good to use first but if it's wearing out a bit and not so aggressive anymore then the venev will probably work better either way the 240 will do just fine
