This cute little guy's name is Blitz and he is a 21 day old Haflinger foal! Here he is being shown during the Parade of Breeds during the 2010 PA Horse World Expo!
After all the years I've been working with horses and raising my children, I've discovered how ridiculously close toddlers and foals are in terms of behaviour. This little cutie is another example.😂😂
I was a bit worried at first that the foal was actually frightened. But he has his ears cocked most of the time and does indeed seem to be simply full of energy.
Princess Kenny I agree. I went to a rodeo. They drugged the horses to be placid. I cried so much. They stood there listlessly with their lower lip hanging down. Rocking back and forth on their heels. 😭
I am willing to bet that this is not this mare's first foal. Or her first boy. Fillies stick a little closer to Mom but boys are boys are boys....... She is a calm Mom but let Junior get out of sight or let someone or something come into that ring that Mom isn't comfortable with and that little mare will show you a side you never guessed she had.
He knows how to wow a crowd. I bet he's stunning now, but I doubt he kept too much of that playfulness as every adult I've met of the breed is super relaxed. That little rear though--wish we'd been able to see it without mom blocking it, that was insanely adorable!!
Has anyone ever noticed that foals legs r so dang long until they get full grown.This baby has lots of energy & Mother is so calm with her baby just running & having fun.

Haflinger ponies are an exception: There are too many foals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and not enough "normal" buyers/riders. Many of them decide against this breed. For many decades a lot of Haflinger foals go to the slaughter-house.
Foal is thinking there is mom walking and trotting so it must be okay for me to kick up my heels. Notice he constantly checks back to see mom and runs around her constantly.
The mother trusts the handler even in that stressful situation. She continues to go with him despite the little one going "off track" a little bit. If she would be fearful she would not go with the man but stay right at the side of the foal. These are Austrian work horses (logging, farm work).

IDK much about horses 🐴 like you do, but I’m a cat lover and he reminds me of how kittens skip, play and romp!

I love how calm the person handling the adult horse is, and how well trained the adult horse is, and of course the foal is adorable!

I grew up on a farm. We had horses, cows, bulls, pigs, chickens, goats, etc.. Horses are by far the most dangerous animal on the farm.
