Rick Stevens RIP in Heaven. One of my favorite singer and songs when I was 20 years old back in 1972. Now, I'm 71 and I'll be 72 years old in a few months and I still love this song!!
So happy to see he was able to come back and sing his song before he passed away everybody else was singing his song but can't nobody touch him he owned this song.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! I WAS BORN IN 1973 MY MOM PLAYED THIS SONG ALL THE TIME!!! GOD IS GOOD ❤ REST IN PEACE RICK STEVENS!! ❤ YOUR VOICE IS AMAZING ONE OF A KIND!!!❤💝
Rick Stevens, the best it’s too bad life’s situation’s take us away. I’m glad he found God and found recovery towards the end of his life. What a great talent. Like Emilio said, it’s all because of Bill W
Amazing ! After being in prison for so many yrs , yes he came back singing with his wonderful voice. I just love this song and hearing it makes me remember my young days when I was in school ! RIP ...u r now singing in heaven with the angels
Rick never lost his flair. So great to see him back with the East bay Grease!!! Today's musicians, learn from your elders...it's the music, not the show...
ON me and what ended up as my wife for 22 years went to a club and requested this song to dance to. Believe it or not the DJ said that he didn’t know this song (Loser) any way I went to my car and got the CD and we had our first slow dance. It was beautiful, I remember it like yesterday. My wife passed away Nov 2, 2018. I miss her so much. Thank you for this song Power of Tower. You guys will always be part of the love story called Rick and Adela. Thank you guys.
I saw Rick when he was the man with TOP as they backed up CCR in San Antonio, Texas in 1972. God bless his even thought he made such a bad mistake, all is ok now with God and his forgiveness.
The Real vocalist of You’re still a Young man. His voice is robust and clear as it originally was. Rick Stevens was magic, May he rest in heavenly peace.
I was just happy that he was able to come back and sing his song. The song Steal brings me to tears. It's March 22nd 2020. Nobody could touch Rick's vocals on this song
Wow. That was great. Those horns still sound crisp, backing vocals sound smooth, lead vocals still on point. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 "...what it means, when comes to you with his little heart in his hands...just to love you."
I was there too, but not in tears. Back in the day I was one of his many girls. I had stopped going to see him in prison and moved on. I wasn't sure he even remembered me. He did. I brought him pictures of us back in the day. He was so excited about the pictures he ran off and started showing friends and family. Left me standing there. Lol!
So gifted, and redeemed in his later years. This made me cry because he had one the all time great voices, you could pick him out immediately. Like a great guitar riff from David Gilmore or Eddie Van Halen. T.O.P. Showed such class and the power of forgiveness, to let him shine again. Thank you T.O.P. For making my childhood dream come true…
Amen. I remember listening to his original recording of this song in the 60's when I was in Junior High. A sad waste of talent but in the end I'm happy that TOP made this happen for him.
I remember when my cousin went to the Battle of The Bands in Sacramento (or is it San Francisco), anyway he saw Tower of Power perform this song and they won the Battle and ended up getting a recording contract....he was so excited about their music. They still have that sound that gives you chills when you hear them perform...Love Tower of Power!
I saw top in 72 with Rick singing this song at the filmore, fantastic Just as good 40 yr later. Of all the singers no one comes close to Rick Steven's. Thanks for sharing the stag and letting him relieve a beautiful period in his life before cancer snuffed it out.
He is/was Black. I knew him. I am about the same complexion with wavy hair and I am Black. We used to joke about having kids, saying they would be racially unidentifiable.
This brings back a lot of good memories of the 70s when groups like Oakland’s Tower of Power-who originated the East Bay Grease sound genre, of heavy brass funk/rock/soul music-WAR, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, others produced many hits. Great original sound.
Glad I got to see Rick with TOP in San Mateo in 2012. I knew he was out and about but not sure if he was gonna be there. Rest In Paradise Rick Stevens🙏🏼
I was in Vacaville with Rick Stevens in 1991. He was an office clerk and I was a tier tender in v-wing. I was only doing a 90 day opt. Rick was facing appeals and gathering documents and doing what he had to do to get to this night. He's still a young man.
Growing up with this song, my bad I always thought Lenny was the OG on this song. Boy was I blown away when I found out it was Mr. Stevens. Yes, Rick Stevens sang the hell out of this song.
TOP is timeless! If you like this video, you need to watch Larry Braggs' last song with TOP and his duet with Rick Stevens. Great moment in TOP history!
I saw him and met him at a nightclub in San Francisco in 1975 and heard him do this song. I'll remember it for the rest of my life. He'd been kicked out of TOP by that time, and shortly thereafter, he went to jail for a long time, which made me very sad. What an incredible talent.
T O P was and is the Best..the new lead singer is very good but nobody, NOBODY sang that song with the passion that Rick Stevens did. Arguably the Best Soul/R & B singer of all time! ..rip Rick
Thank you very much billy box for uploading this clip. I was in the audience too during one of those Yoshi's show. Like others that evening I was smiling and in tears, feeling the nostalgia and real time history simultaneously during this encore surprise (at least it was to me). Thanks brother. VHS Class of '74.
The entire band is beyond ... beyond. The current lead singer from the 50th Anniversary Special, l was sceptical at first. Boy, did Castillo find the ideal artist !! Somehow, he has the talent, spirit, Tower essence that will hopefully keep the gang going forward for another soulful 50 years, at least 50 more shows more. Big love 😍
Shows you what kind of guy's the members of T.O P. Are, letting Rick put in the pocket just one more time. God bless everyone in T.O P. past and present , for giving something all the gold in the world can't buy , the best music ever made.
SAAANG BABY, YOU DID THIS. SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I LOVE IT. SO MANY BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES. THANK YOU FOR ALL THEM. REST PEACERULLY IN PARADISE 💞🙏🏾⚘🙏🏾💞
I remember the 8-track I bought in the 60s and cruzin Whittier Blvd in my first car my Dad gave me which he purchased new in 55. A Chevy. Tower of Power blasting out of my car!
I was in the 6th grade when this song came out. My Mama said he had the sexiest voice ever. I'm a huge fan. I always said that Lenny Williams wasn't the original singer of that song so I Googled it and found out about Rick Stevens. R.I.P. to the man with the greatest voice ever.
The 70's at Parkers in Seattle Washington was some of the best years of my life meeting and spending a lot of time with the best musicians on the planet. Thanks again for ToP!!!!
Rick Stevens RIP in Heaven. One of my favorite singer and songs when I was 20 years old back in 1972. Now, I'm 71 and I'll be 72 years old in a few months and I still love this song!!

His singing and the band brings chills down my spine. Fabulous performance.

No one can sing this like Rick, u cannot top the original. That band is so awesome, yeah man.
They don’t make Music like this anymore! One of my Favs ♥️
I saw Rick when he was the man with TOP as they backed up CCR in San Antonio, Texas in 1972. God bless his even thought he made such a bad mistake, all is ok now with God and his forgiveness.

I was so lucky to have seen Rick sing this song with TOP at Yoshi's in I beleive January 2016. I was in tears.
I was there too, but not in tears. Back in the day I was one of his many girls. I had stopped going to see him in prison and moved on. I wasn't sure he even remembered me. He did. I would like to apologize to the people who told me it was Rick Stevens and not Lenny Williams sing on the remastered version. My bad
I was at that show too. He had on white suit. He was always my favorite TOP singer.
Thank God he got out of jail...in time to sing this once again..I thought he was black.
Mixed race.
He is/was Black. I knew him. I am about the same complexion with wavy hair and I am Black. We used to joke about having kids, saying they would be racially unidentifiable.
So awesome to hear this song. TOP continues to deliver great sound!
Yes, he still had it. The soulful voice. He sang with so much feeling. May he rest in peace. He was dealt with a tough situation but, he conquered it.
