Finished mine a little while ago, I'm sure glad you mentioned the template dimensions in your video, mine printed the same way, measured 1" but was too small, imo, Subaru could have included a template in the kit, everything else went smoothly, just a lot of dang work to install a hitch, but it's done now and I can sleep knowing it was done right (without scratches too). Hey, I ordered and put the black Ambul D-ring shackle on today. You are so correct- fits loosely in the factory hitch. I just wrapped the Ambul square hitch (where it enters the factory hitch) with black electrical tape. Seems to keep it nice and snug with no clanking sound! 😂
Nice job. I did this install on my 2021 Outback TXT a few years ago and it went well. I decided to just have it installed at the factory on my new OBW to save me time.
Thank you and just to let you know, it's a dealer install option not from the Factory so, your at the dealerships mercy, and I've seen some horrible installation job 😢 that is why I opt to do it my self.

Great video- unfortunately I don’t have any tools or space to do this myself. My new wilderness will arrive from the dealership sometime in the next four weeks. In regards to the OEM hitch, fascia plate and also the two skid plates; would it be wise to have the dealership or speciality service shop make these mods? Wish I could hire you! Lol- but I’m in South Carolina. 😂 Also, I assume the front two shackles are attached by taking off the removable tow hook plate. If so, did you have to purchase additional tow hooks to screw into the front? Much appreciated and keep up the great work on the channel.
Well, I think you can still order them and it will be wise to have the dealer install them so that it will be under warranty if anything happens or they mess up. And I only had to buy one more of the tow hooks since the car comes with one already. Can't wait for you to get your OBW!! How exciting 😀
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thanks man! Yea, today the dealership said the factory will install the rear OEM hitch and fascia plate as well as the mud flaps. Good thing is there is no factory install fees. If I didn’t see your video on this , I’d have to pay the expensive dealership to install. Lol. Wish they made a copper shackle to match the cover plates. I’ll probably just go with a black shackle to blend in with the bumper. I must say your all black with red accents looks sharp. I went with the autumn green. I’d like to get my windows tinted as well. Finding a qualified professional is key for the tint! I’ll have to replay your video on that front. Thanks again for all the help.
@@briantodd4887 Oh, that's even better!! factory installation is the way~ LOL I am glad I could help! amzn.to/3RIKVVd and this might be the closest thing to match the OBW color. give it a try, and if you don't like it, you can return it and go with the black one. and for car tinting, do ask if they have a tint meter to see if you need different shades to make it even.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO all great points, thanks. That orange shackle may do the trick!! 🤞 I would like to leave the copper cover plates on as is. I probably missed that video! Lol Much appreciated-
@briantodd4887 I removed the cover completely, because with the Shackle in place, you cant really see the hole but you can make a hole to have a cleaner look.

Good review. I just did a hidden hitch install on my friends BMW X5 and had to cut the fascia using a dermal cutoff. It worked really well and the project turned out great. Based on that and your video I am confident in doing this with my OBW that I am supposed to pick up in a week or so (once the SOS button issue is resolved) . Thanks again for a video showing the situation people really run into like no template include, scale of template questions etc. These snags happen and seeing how you resolved them is very helpful. Last comment. Where did you source the CF tow hitch covers? Are they real cc or just vinyl overlays? Regardless I like that look and my car is crystal black silica and I like the idea of blacking out all of copper trim items.
Hello Jeff. Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it and congratulations on your OBW!! And yes I didn't want anyone to be surprised when attempting to do this type of project on your own as I was. And tow covers are 3D matte carbon fiber vinyl from Amazon that I purchased. I still have the roof racks but didn't want all that orange accents throughout the car. 😕 BtW. Nice color choice~ 👌
Hi Brian! You mentioned making sure to get two parts … does the facia cover not come with the OEM hitch by default? Or is that an extra cost? Thanks for sharing!
I just don't understand why Subaru wants to mention the new oil cooling system for more towing capacity as a selling point and then ask of their customers to do ALL this.
I have the same 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness; I need to install Trailer Hitch for the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Rack. Do I need to buy the same as you did? Thanks for your help.
Hello Feng. You do need a hitch. I got the OEM because it already came with the 4 plug wiring and the template to cut into the bumper. There are after market brand that makes a hitch and it's almost the same process. But again I would go with OEM. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask anytime 😊

@@ChasingAdventuresCO It looks like you blacked out the copper colored accents. Where the tow hook goes. Again, thanks for the engine guard and diff cover video. Does the facia fit non-wilderness Subarus? I have a 2022 Outback and want to install a trailer hitch but hate the clumsy look of the hitch just sticking out from under the bumper or the cutaway with just the piping they provide. If I buy the facia, can I use the facia on my bumper to get a cleaner look?
On Subaru's part store and the want almost $600 for the hitch then another $500 for the fascia! Is that what it cost a year ago? Seems a rip off for the fascia.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thanks. Seems that's not the oem subaru parts store thought, right? I googled the part number and found a non oem website selling for those prices.
Had one question regarding the front bumper. : Did you simply remove the cover plates or place black film on them and drill a hole via plates to mount the tow bolt with shackle? I probably missed that video! Lol Much appreciated-
@briantodd4887 I removed the cover completely, because with the Shackle in place, you cant really see the hole but you can make a hole to have a cleaner look.
Was it worth it or would you recommend buying pre-installed
To me, it was worth it because I've seen some horrible dealer installed jobs and did not want to take the chance.
Have you seen a difference between dealer vs factory installed?
@@carrollmoseley3572 you can do a simple google search and find horrible jobs that the dealer did, plus the overpriced labor. www.google.com/search?sca_esv=557804163&sxsrf=AB5stBhO2izLS7CO11sB6doVJFWvasjPEA:1692299807191&q=subaru+outback+wilderness+dealer+installed+hitch+bad&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiFrPGGtOSAAxXUADQIHW-MD9IQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=1707&bih=843&dpr=2.25
Enjoyed video very informative
Thank you Dan! 😊
Where did you find the printable template??
I searched on Google and found a pdf form. I think I typed in subaru outback hitch receiver installation pdf
Excellent video - thank you!
Thank you!~
great job on the video!
Thank you!
Great video. Is there a link to the installation instructions that I am missing after surveying the comments? Can you respond with link? Thank you for making the video,. It was very helpful.
here you go www.subaruonlineparts.com/docs/L101SAN000.pdf
Very informative video, thanks!
Thank you Terrence! Are you going to tackle it your self as well?
@@ChasingAdventuresCO No, I added the hitch when I placed my order. I’m just trying to learn a much as I can about the OBW as I impatiently wait for it to arrive lol. Your videos are great! Thanks!
@@TCobb47 nice. Thank you~
Good review.
BtW. Nice color choice~ 👌
Smashed the like button!
Thank you JS Lee and you get a Thumbs up for that!!~
Hi Brian! You mentioned making sure to get two parts … does the facia cover not come with the OEM hitch by default? Or is that an extra cost? Thanks for sharing!
Hello, I thought it did but it didn't... and no option to purchase. I did put a link for you to DL and print.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thank you, sir!!!
@@rodneywk1 anytime! 😊
Do you use a dash cam?
Thanks for your question Artem and yes I do. You can check out my installation video here ruclips.net/video/S6NfhfiqznA/видео.html
@@ChasingAdventuresCO I appreciate that!
@@artemartem7534 anytime 😊
I just don't understand why Subaru wants to mention the new oil cooling system for more towing capacity as a selling point and then ask of their customers to do ALL this.
Haha. Yeah, this should have been included with the car 😔
ALWAYS cut smaller than the template, you can make the cut bigger if you need to.
now I think the original true 1 inch size template fits right on ...
what happened to the prius v 😕
She's here and videos of the prius is coming up soon.~
Good job man
Thank you Jason!
Hello, Thanks for your answer.
1. What is the OEM?
2. I want to confirm with you for Subaru Trailer Hitch - Part # L101SAN000.

3. Could this adopt the below Rack?

What are your accent covers?
Accent cover? Sorry Daniel, I didn't understand your question.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO It looks like you blacked out the copper colored accents. Where the tow hook goes. Again, thanks for the engine guard and diff cover video. I cancelled the order for the engine one,as if they could get it anyway, and the rear diff guard. That is too much ground clearance to lose. Ebay here I come.
@@Daniel-Weaver oh. I covered it with carbon fiber vinyl that I purchased from Amazon. Thanks~
I doubt they fit the non wilderness bumper
On Subaru's part store and the want almost $600 for the hitch then another $500 for the fascia! Is that what it cost a year ago? Seems a rip off for the fascia.
I think I paid 350 for all a year ago and haven't checked the price recently but it shouldn't be that much.
Just checked the price and the hitch is around 450 and the fascia is only 30
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thanks. Seems that's not the oem subaru parts store thought, right? I googled the part number and found a non oem website selling for those prices. When I go to the "official" Subaru parts website, it's different for the fascia (albeit seems an error for their price.) Have you ever ordered from the vendor which has the prices you mentioned?

here you go.
would you pay someone like 200 bucks for all of these to save 5 hours?
haha, it would cost more than 200 bucks but regardless, I would do it again if I had to.
That fascia is nerve wrecking until you get to fit it right.
I know, right? I was very nervous but it came out just 🙂
Dang. That’s a lot of work. I think I’m just gonna pay my dealer the $1000.
Haha it sure was and if you have the money and don't care about the outcome, go for it. No need to sweat it but I did it my self because I've heard and seen horrible installation done by the dealership, I didn't want to take that chance. Plus got a satisfaction knowing I did it my self~
@@ChasingAdventuresCO My dealer also wants $500 for the parts and labor of the wireless charger. Insane!
@@jeffg3895 wow... dealer rip off. 😆
At 17 min you should have started the car without the mufflers. Just to say.. If anyone is curious to hear the outback without mufflers.. Here goes...
Haha, funny you mention it. I also wanted to hear what it would sound like, so I was planning, but I totally forgot to do it as I was so rushed... 😔 😆
lots of work. makes the high price the dealer wants seem kind of worth it.
It is a lot of work but is very satisfying knowing you did it. 😌
Literally made me break off my rear bumper reflector trying to remove it . Turns out the light didn’t even need to be removed. It’s okay I guess I can upgrade it to smoked or something. Definitely lost some brownie points on that one
Did you skip through the video? Because I did mention you don't need to take off the reflector..
@@ChasingAdventuresCO nope. Watched the video and was following along . I should have skipped around. It’s fine I just bought a replacement and watched another installation video
sorry you missed it. maybe I should of elaborated more.
