Alex sensation was my inspiration to become a dj. I would hear Alex at 2am when I would visit my dad in New York. I make 6 figures in my regular job but djing is just a hobby for me.
Cool video my man! I also started with the Hercules RMX Console running VDJ 8 years ago. Now I use Technics 1200 turntables and Pioneer 900 Nexus as my mixer running Serato Dj in my MacBook Pro.
great video DJ Barr, My first DJ setup was a Amp and Speakers from a JVC home stereo rack system, and I borrowed some belt drive turntables from family members and I spun real vinyl records that I carried around in crates. And I saved all the $ I made and kept moving up and got a Pioneer CDJ setup! keep up the great videos!!
Hey Bayardo, Thanks for everything, i have been watching your videos since you first started and you have helped me become a prper DJ and get all the right gear! Thanks again, - JBalisticMC
When I actually started my own gigs I had a small system .I used the Hercules rmx and I enjoyed it .now I use the Roland 808 dj and its by far the best I used .awesome work barr🖒✌👍
I agree with the Serato Path for the clubs, I used serato when i started in the clubs. I now own a XDJ-RX which is Rekordbox enabled so all prep is done through that but it does bring a whole different set of problems.
I started way back in the 80's with a Fal Mono De-Lux twin deck with a built-in 50 watts per channel amp. ( What a beast ) The best part was that it had auto fade on the music output when you turned the mike on. Gerrard turntables and 3 channel sound to light boxes. Them were the days.
Well i been dj in cuba whit the old pioneer systems , deck cassettes ejej omg , and now come to usa and everything was new to me , soo crazy to get be a dj again , and now i almost ready whit my new equipment , 2 Ev zlx 15 1000w , 2 sub. Ev EKX 1300 w a brand new ddj dj 1000 pioneer ,thanks to you channel i been learning how to get into the dj live in here , thanks soo much....
Since all venues that have their own equipment have Pioneer CDJ's these days, Rekordbox is essential to prep music these days. Other then that, Rekordbox Performance is catching up big time these days. If you really want to DJ in clubs at some point, get a DDJ-RB or the newer DDJ-400. If you have a little bit of a tiger budget, get the DDJ-RR or newer equivalent or or if you have 1000 bucks to spend get the DDJ-1000. They're both small and compact Rekordbox controllers and let you access the full DJ features of Rekordbox Performance that you need to start out as a DJ. The transition from Rekordbox controllers to industry standard CDJ-2000NX and DJM-900NS is almost seamless. If you practiced enough on your controller, you'll feel right at home on the club equipment.
I started dj with a dvd player and a cd player doin house parties switch from one channel to the next after that I had vdj just laptop then move on to torque m-audio used that with turn table then serato with a few different controller
Whatup Dj Barr. awesome video. i started as a dj when i was 14 years old in 1980 and stopped in 2003. my first dj setup was all from radio shack. Realistic two channel mixer, two realistic speakers, and two realistic belt drive turntables. i had one crake with about 200 records. i charged $75 for a gig no matter how long. i just wanted to play music. P.S. my father or mother would drive me to the parties. good times. mixmaster mendez out!
Pretty good advise for dj's who just start! but now when i buy new stuff for my mobile dj rig, i always say to me... i should have bought that before :p (if i had the money). Great vlog, keep up the good work!
First dj set up was a pair of Technics 1200, a cheap Numark mixer and serato sl1 box in 2008 ..I eventually upgraded to a rane 57...I still have and use it for mobile gigs..I agree pioneer is king when it comes to dj gear, I want the S9 so bad! It's an awesome mixer
Great video passing the knowledge! Started on a Numark ns6 to a pioneer ddj sx2 and now have a set of Technics 1200's mk5 with a Rane 62 mixer and 2 CDJ 2000 nexus. Living the dream!
you are on point with serato dj for club djs. my first controller was the Hercules instinct control..then I moved to my numark N4 controller which is what I use now! my dream controller is the pioneer DDJ SZ.
I agree with you all the way I started with a Hercules control instinct and virtual dj then I move to a Numark N4 and serato DJ. witch im still using right now!
Talk about starting out. Try Homemade 350-watt speakers. Homemade housing for cd players and old mixer. ( Which I don't use any more ). Homemade 4 piece front screen. ( Made out of wood and Lycra ) That does fold up. Cheap 200-watt per channel amplifier, and a pair of old ( but still working ) 1970's 3 channel sound to light boxes. I have moved on a little from then but have still got my old kit.
Started off with a Numark Mixdeck that I still use to this day and then bought some used Stanton T.80's with an SL1 then used STR8-150's and upgraded to the DS-1 box. Turntables are heavy, straight up bloody heavy so if you have stairs to deal with don't get a coffin otherwise take the time to move it all piece by piece or hit that gym.
My Dj controller is a pioneer ddj wego3,I've been djing since last year & once I get enough money I'm getting two types of systems :the pioneer platinum limited edition & ddj-rzx
I agree with you DJ Barr!! I started it off with Vinyl and Serato!! Broo i Love Serato Haha I used to use VDJ until I was introduced to Serato!! I have a DDJ SX2 now!! And my dream Setup is CDJ's 2000's Nexus with DJM 900 mixer!!
I bought a Pioneer DDJ SR2 and a MacBook Air. I already had a pair of Yamaha DBR 10’s and the whole thing works and sounds fantastic. I bought both the controller and the laptop refurbished. Saved me $350 on the controller and $300 on the laptop. The Yamahas were $299 each (I’m sure they’ve gone up by now) and they sound damn close to QSC’s.
My first set up was 2 Sony disc mans fading over the rightand left channels to mix lol. I'm supporting the same controller u got here now also. Gr8 choice B!🍻
For clubs i'd use either rekordbox (with cdjs only) or serato mainly cause rekordbox on cdjs is the most reliable since it uses the cdjs as processors.
When i started my first controller was the numark mixtrack platinum that i plugged into my desktop and just learned the basics on it. The screens are great on it. After that i got a ddj-400 and on it i perfected my mixing and now i own a ddj-rr a great controller with pro connections that im gonna rock a long time. I started with serato but when i swapped to pioneer i find rekordbox way more user friendly and im not gonna swap back
damm this just gave me a flash back 6 years ago of how I started to dj I can relate alot to this I also started by hearing mixes on the radio. and well now I work for this radio station that got me into djing :)
Great channel, loving the blogs. Started off with a set of Gemini direct drive turntables and 2 channel Gemini mixer in 2000 then upgraded a couple of years later to a set of technics 1210’s and DJM600 mixer. Recently though just started to get into the digital side of DJing and a few months ago bought a DDJ SX2 but traded it in last week for the DDJ1000, couldn’t resist getting one and loving the new controller and good to have the same layout on the mixer as my old djm6000
Great job on all your videos man they are so helpful!!! thank you for all the tips I'll have my first gig 80s 90s music on June 2 . Two months ago I decided to become a DJ I got the DDJ-SR2 couple of EUROLIVE B112W that came out not too long ago and a refurbished MacBook Pro w SeratoPro
good video wow my first dj set i touched was a belt driven technic turntable thats what got me interested in being a dj first one i brought and still have it as a reminder is a lineartech belt driven turntable then as records started to fade in the latin industry and turned into cd then got a gemini cd player and just started purchasing as things changed but always have my 1200's there
Cool video! I can relate so much to it. Like you, I started djing around the end of 2009 and like you, i also purchased the first Hercules RMX controller at that time. I think that was the only one they made at that time lol. Don't remember exactly. After a few years I moved up to the RMX2 and continued to rock many parties with that. Today I rock all my parties with my DDJ-SX2. I am a full time mobile dj and a club dj today. The only thing I completely disagree with you on is your opinion on Serato. It is not mandatory in a club setting. Me using VDJ8 has never stopped me from getting club gigs. Other than that, cool video here.
What Up Barr, as usual great video and great advice for beginning djs! I'm strictly mobile and was looking for a club and found I have to work on my Serato skills. I two started on VDJ with a hercules controller!
technics 1200s, jvc home cd players, mtx mixer, peavey amp, and yamaha club series speakers. I quickly got rid of the home cd players, and got a denon dual cd player, and that was my rig. Also, Pioneer fell off a bit, Numark is good too.
Dig your RUclips material Broswki! I'm from Da CHI growing up I couldn't wait for the weekend night to begin with the Mixes on WBMX withe Bad Boy BILL, Julian Jumpin Perez, Farley Jack Master Funk! Recorded hours & hours of tape bruh keep doing it!
Man...you come from a long way. I'm looking forward to going down that same road. Hitting the house parties in NJ LOL. Thanks for the advice as always. Serato.....got it!!!
Great vids man I'm from nz where serato started from and when I first started I started just like you carting around a whole pc with my first controller the mighty mixtrack pro as you can see in my profile pic and virtual DJ then I went towards the traktor side with there hit controller the traktor s4 and had it for a couple years but now I'm on serato with a ddjsx 2 and loving it with 2 turntables
Hey man you should have your first Mixer put into a shadow box and hand it on your wall... would be a awesome art work to be able to see where u started
I like recordbox that is made for the cdj's and my favorite dj set is 2× pioneer cjd 2000nxs 2 1x pioneer djm 900nxs 2 4x ev etx-35p 8x ev etx-18sp 1x ev dx 46 2x shute qlxd24 / ksm9 v51
hi barr yet another pro attitude to dj ing say it as it is bro alot of starting out djs get good feedback of you i been on mobile scene for over thirty years and got a monster mobile set up lol
yo aun tengo el RMX y es mi backup... me gustaría tener los Cdjs y mixer que tienes pero no puedo, uso unos Denon y son muy buenos diría que casi igual alos tuyos, bueno espero otro video pronto.
What you say about DJ software in the club scene. That's only in your area. Here in Florida,I've worked in clubs in Ocala,Leesburg,Tampa, and cruise ships, that all used virtual DJ. Entertainment is different depending on the clients
Man! Im new to the craft but not music. I usually deal with car audio and didnt realize how much different live or pro audio is. Didnt have anybody help me make certain choices. So on my own my first system is Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 with a Flight case ready for the NVII (if wanted), Alto zmx862 unpowered mixer, Alto tx12s, 18" LS1801a Carvin Powered Subwoofer, 2 tvs for visual if needed. Virtual dj8 and Serato dj on board for preference depending on the gig, and a few par and dance floor lights. Thinking of maybe upgrading my tops first. not sure
Bayardo, thank you for this video, very informative. I’m looking to start but as you said I prefer to start low, learn and work my way up. So I’m looking at DDJ SB2, not expensive at all. Question I have is laptop, I don’t have an Apple, can I use HP with windows? Thank you
I recommend going on my blog site where I've been putting together blogs that will teach you everything you need to know! It's fresh and new and I post to it every week! I promise you, I will show you the way! www.thedjpro.co
9:04 so not true I use three types of software depending on the controller that I use (I use rekordbox virtual DJ and DJay pro on a Mac ) And most clubs don’t care what software you use they just care about Sound Quality and timing you have to be at the club on time that’s it! So don’t listen to everyone who tells you switch to serato because that isn’t going to make you a better dj use the software that you like to use and are comfortable using because that will make you a better dj and the same for controllers if you have a DDj sx2 and everyone’s telling you to switch to the DDj 1000 and your not comfortable using that controller don’t get it stick to the DDj sx2
I know this video is 3 years old but i just watch this channel. I have a numark party mix and speakers but have no lights. I want some lights but also want to get a pioneer sb3. I need a light stand to start mobile dj. Should i ivest on a controller or lights with stand
I started out with numark ns7ii and a pair of the zlx 15p. Now I'm thinking of getting two of the plx 1000 turntables and the djm s9 mixer. But can somebody tell me what is the difference with the plx 1000's and 500's??? Thanks!
hahaha great story Barr. it's better to buy cheap and upgrade later then to buy expensive and figure out it's too advanced for you and have to downgrade.
That is a good question. I would recommend selling it and getting the SX2. I've had both controllers and I love my SX2.. There is a site that changed my life because they don't over price on gear, free 2 day shipping (emergencies), No credit/bad credit/good credit(better), and they let you do monthly payment plans! Guaranteed low prices! sounds too good to be true? Well thats why it changed my life! check out my site bro .. www.thedjpro.co/equipment
7 month update I booked small gigs with rental PA. Now 7 months later I still have SB3 but I also have a MacBook Pro, my own PA, mics, all live stream gear. Next save up is for a step up controller.
Alex sensation was my inspiration to become a dj. I would hear Alex at 2am when I would visit my dad in New York. I make 6 figures in my regular job but djing is just a hobby for me.

Great video DJ Barr! Love hearing your story! Keep spinning DJ!
When I actually started my own gigs I had a small system .I used the Hercules rmx and I enjoyed it .now I use the Roland 808 dj and its by far the best I used .awesome work barr🖒✌👍

I carried around my home computer also; I love the story
alex sensation is the man he inspire me to like spanish music. his mixes on the radio is unbeatable.
started of with a mixer that I bought at the swap meet for 5 bucks and now I own a ddJ sx2

you are on point with serato dj for club djs. my first controller was the Hercules instinct control..then I moved to my numark N4 controller which is what I use now! my dream controller is the pioneer DDJ SZ.
Thanks man!
DDJ-SR is a perfect beginner controller and the some. this is a long lasting high quality controller for anybody.
I agree with you all the way I started with a Hercules control instinct and virtual dj then I move to a Numark N4 and serato DJ. witch im still using right now!
For you guys out there , look up for a ddj s1 its pretty simple but its also for a intermediate dj its kinda old but trust me its an excellent choise
The Hercules RMX was my first digital mixer! Now I use the Pioneer DJM 750MKII.
For entry level get yourself a Numark mixtrack pro 3 or mixtrack platinum very cost effective and a good controller overall
mi primer controlador también fue Hércules rmx Me encantó después tuve numark n4 y ahora pioneer

I started with the Hercules dmx. Now I have the pioneer sr. And you are so right. Serato is the way to go.
I bought a Pioneer DDJ SR2 and a MacBook Air. I already had a pair of Yamaha DBR 10’s and the whole thing works and sounds fantastic. I bought both the controller and the laptop refurbished. Yes! I had the same Hercules controller. I loved it!
My first set up was 2 Sony disc mans fading over the rightand left channels to mix lol. I'm supporting the same controller u got here now also. Gr8 choice B!🍻
Great and interesting story Barr.
I started off with the Numark mixtrack pro 2 which I kept for a year and a half, then I upgraded to the Ddj-Sx2. 👌🏾 great vid
For clubs i'd use either rekordbox (with cdjs only) or serato mainly cause rekordbox on cdjs is the most reliable since it uses the cdjs as processors.
I started with a Behringer BCM3000 using Traktor LE with a cheap PC laptop using my brother's home stereo system and speakers.
Like always, great vlog dj barr!!!
Brought some memories back 👍🏼👍🏼
Wass up DJ BARR I FOLLOW you on RUclips and IG and Snapchat great job man keep up the good work
damm this just gave me a flash back 6 years ago of how I started to dj I can relate alot to this I also started by hearing mixes on the radio. and well now I work for this radio station that got me into djing :)
My first system was technics 1200, and a numark mixers. Still DJ, and have the system. Also have pioneer ddj sr .
Good info! Good energy!!! Keep 'em comin'!!!!

Hey man you should have your first Mixer put into a shadow box and hand it on your wall... would be a awesome art work to be able to see where u started
That was actually a pretty good intro I'd say. I'll hit the like just for that opening part lol. Keep it up & good vid dude 🍻

I liked you before.
I didn’t even know we started on the same system.
Love your stuff. Keep spinning
Good video, good advise and tips as always. I started with the xponent went to a pioneer ddj s1 and current status is a ns7 III
yo aun tengo el RMX y es mi backup... me gustaría tener los Cdjs y mixer que tienes pero no puedo, uso unos Denon y son muy buenos diría que casi igual alos tuyos, bueno espero otro video pronto.
I have a Gemini icdj and ipmx and its great I love it

Yeah my first DJ stuff will be $2800 speakers from JBL and then an $80 mixer board so let’s go I’m ordering it soon
Good vid Barr
keep it up
I started with pioneer ddj sb..with serato dj..
DDJSX 1 or 2 is perfect for newbies ! Save your self money and buy quality equipment.
I use pioneer DDJ SB2 love that thing
Bayardo, thank you for this video, very informative. I’m looking to start but as you said I prefer to start low, learn and work my way up. So I’m looking at DDJ SB2, not expensive at all. Question I have is laptop, I don’t have an Apple, can I use HP with windows? Thank you

Awesome video!!! Great for newbies.
Can't wait for tomorrows video!
9:04 so not true I use three types of software depending on the controller that I use (I use rekordbox virtual DJ and DJay pro on a Mac )
And most clubs don’t care what software you use they just care about Sound Quality and timing you have to be at the club on time that’s it!
So don’t listen to everyone who tells you switch to serato because that isn’t going to make you a better dj use the software that you like to use and are comfortable using because that will make you a better dj and the same for controllers if you have a DDj sx2 and everyone’s telling you to switch to the DDj 1000 and your not comfortable using that controller don’t get it stick to the DDj sx2
great video, keep them coming bro.
Que piensas acerca de recordbox ahora que pioneer ya no maneja serato en los nuevos controladores

I know this video is 3 years old but i just watch this channel. I have a numark party mix and speakers but have no lights. I want some lights but also want to get a pioneer sb3. I need a light stand to start mobile dj. Should i ivest on a controller or lights with stand
Nice setup!!
I have a set of Cerwin Vega 380se powered with a crown xli1500, would that be good, I donta have a controller just my lop top.
I started out with numark ns7ii and a pair of the zlx 15p. Now I'm thinking of getting two of the plx 1000 turntables and the djm s9 mixer. But can somebody tell me what is the difference with the plx 1000's and 500's??? Thanks!
Haha my fist set up was a surround sound speaker set up and a New Mark controller haha but it got me there !
How do you get gigs to dj at places? Im trying to get out of a bedroom dj and go out and play
hahaha great story Barr. it's better to buy cheap and upgrade later then to buy expensive and figure out it's too advanced for you and have to downgrade.
Question do you think I should sale my ddjsz and get ddjsx2 because of th mobility or just get a pioneer case and just keep the ddjsz
I’m starting now with a dj-sb3 and a small home speaker with serato pro. I feel I won’t be good enough stuff to book a gig to save for more.
7 month update I booked small gigs with rental PA. Now 7 months later I still have SB3 but I also have a MacBook Pro, my own PA, mics, all live stream gear. Next save up is for a step up controller.
