VW Transporter T4 (AJT) 2.5 TDI engine timing marks

- This video will show you where to find timing marks on a VW Transporter T4 (AJT) 2.5 TDI engine. My van has manual transmission and it is MY 2002. These should also work at least on an ACV coded engine. About a week ago the diesel injection pump belt pulley stripped the teeth out of the belt and the engine stopped running. The official timing mark for the camshaft is on the injection pump, but because of the broken belt it's no use. I needed to find out where the marks are for the camshaft and in addition also the injection pump timing marks. I haven't yet assembled my engine, but after my research I'm pretty confident about the marks.
If you have T4 tips for others, feel free to put in a comment down below. Авто/Мото
1:25 clutch flywheel mark
5:40 camshaft end notches
7:10 diesel injection pump notch and corresponding mark on the pulley
Mine was too low pressure so I guess worn out pistons. Have changed it to another one used from AJT 65kw. Same as my old one
Very useful video, have pump changed and first time been watching it so I just skipped a little bit till marks, but ofcourse I missed flywheel mark so been struggling for some hours 😀 and all it took it's just to see it once again without skipping. So now my van runs as it used to 👌 thank you so much
Cool. Did you replace it with the same T4 pump or upgrade to a bigger? My pump has worn out teeth on the pulley and the pulley costs ~200 EUR so I have been thinking about replacing the whole pump.
Thanks for uploading this, very informative 👍
@7:00 just under the timing mark of the pump, is a bolt with a spacer. When all timed up, undo the bolt enough to remove the spacer “don’t lose it! Or forget to refit it later” tighten the bolt and that will lock the injection pump in position.
Thanks man! You helped me in the lot!😊
Thank you so much this is super informative!
Thank you so much you are a great professor.
I use T4. 2.4 l diesel engine.
The most explicit! Best detailed!
Kiitos videosta! Näillä ohjeilla sain oman acv 2.5tdi:n käyntiin. Tämä harrastaja kiittää ja kumartaa! 👍😊
Thanks for the video! With these instructions I got my acv 2.5tdi running. This amateur hobbyist salutes you! 👍😊
thanks for your good information
Useful vidéo. Thanks
Älyttömän hyvä video kiitos tästä!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great video. Thank you! Your English is brilliant too BTW. Better than mine and I'm from England. 😆
Kiitos tästä!
THANKYOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. You save Me 🤩🤩
thanks for good help
thanks good explain, flywheel mark is under the car on my volvo 850 tdi that s why i had problem lol
thx , are you going to do a video on the cam belt waterpump change thanks
No not at this time. I changed the belts last fall and there was no natural light then and I don't have a garage. Follow the procedures on the how-to guide on atlib.com. It has a few errors but it's okay.
Good job
Hey man. Nice video. Does the engine need to be empty of oil to change the timing belt or it does not affect?. Thank you
Doesn't affect
And now is ready to change time belt or diesel pumpe belt?
Hi Antti can you give me any further information please on the pump setting up.
I've been using a dti gauge to get the 0.55 lift to time pump but won't start. Changed pump because it was weak it took me 2 months in spare time to get running now back to square one with new pump.
Please any help would be appreciated very much thank you
Make sure the pump is at bottom dead center and the piston is in top dead center when you set the gauge to zero. The dial gauge will get you in the ball park and once it's somewhere there the car should start and it can adjust it a little by ECU. For more precise tuning you need to use VCDS (VAG COM) and connect to the OBD port. Check these two for more help: atlib.info/blog/182-vw-transporter-25-tdi-acv-t-belt--high-pressure-fuel-pump-belt-replacement and ruclips.net/video/CfYQOl4n4tk/видео.html . Remember to get the car at least to 80°C before tuning with VCDS.
This is great information and this link is fantastic. Step by step! I have been using a Haynes manual and some information in Brickyard. Im hoping I can get my van running at least sufficiently ti drive it to a Bosch specialist who has all the necessary software. I believe the value 0.55 has to be advanced to a little more for older engines. But im just learning all this. An engineer has stated from experience that the value should be 0.65 for an older engine. Useful to know that the camshaft timing slot is of centered. I didn't realise that. I thought you had to look at the cam lobes on the left.
#1 cylinder - TDC
Corresponding lobes on Camshaft will be - UP. This will ensure Camshaft isn't 180° out.
If the mark on clutch flywheel is not visible is there any other way to set the timing
Hi. No, there isn't. It's quite hard to find and that's why I marked it with a paint pen when I finally found it. Keep looking, you will find it. Ask a buddy to turn the crank very slowly while you look.
Hw to replace timing belt for t4 v5
Moikka, vaihdoin sylinterikannen tiiviste on Caravelle t4 moottori tyyppi AAB. Nyt ei käynnisty se on pois ajoissa. Miten voidaan korjata? Missä Suomessa olet?
Check the engine timing marks: flywheel and camshaft position. If those are set and you can freely turn the crankshaft by hand, the injection pump is probably out of sync. I don't know about t4 2.4 engines but I think the IP was different at least, maybe this will help: ruclips.net/video/8GjviZPuP7I/видео.html good luck
Just a thought, you can open the pump outlet screws to make sure it really pumps fuel, if you changed fuel filter or otherwise had to take the pump out when doing the head gasket change. If you changed the fuel filter, remember to fill it with diesel before installing it, cranking won't fill it because there is no low pressure fuel pump.
Suomeksi myös kiitos
Details the same for the ACV engine ?
Did you ever find out? I’m doing my ACV engine at the weekend. (Looks the same tbh)
@@samuelfrench80 sorry never found out ,van still sitting on the drive not moved
My flywheel is rusty so there's lots of marks that look like the timing mark can't I open the injector and put a rod down no1 to get TDC?
You can but only to find the line in the flywheel. I don't think it's accurate enough measured from the piston.
@@AnttiHarri thanks mate appreciate it.

No problem. Mine was rusty too but after looking hard enough I found it and marked it with a paint pen. You will find it too, I'm sure.
