little fun fact: Tenzin's sky bison is called Oogi. This is a reference to Sokka, who often exclaims that Aang's and Katara's love "is giving him the oogies". So basically, Tenzin named his sky bison after his parents' love, which is pretty sweet
Sokka only says “oogies” in regards to Aang and Katara’s relationship in the comics, which came out after Legend of Korra (except the promise part 1 by 3 months) sooooo…. Not true
"This is overanalyzing Korra! You asked for this!" "I DID!! I did ask for this!" So stoked you decided to continue with Korra. Love your insight and passion!
Lin knew who Korra was because she knew about the red lotus trying to capture her as a child. She got a bunch of inside knowledge back then I'm assuming from the white lotus, tenzin, sokka, and Zuko. Also her note were blank because she learned how to keep records from Toph lol
If not the red lotus, then I'm sure the three criminals giving identical reports about a woman bending multiple elements would have tipped Lin off as well.
Unfortunately an unlikely intended explanation during production. Bear in mind that Korra was only initially green lit for one season, got approval for one more part way through airing the first season, and got approval for the last 2 partway through the 2nd. Since the Red Lotus aren't involved, mentioned, or hinted at until that last block of 2 seasons, they almost certainly weren't conceived by the writers when they made episode 1.
One thing to note right away is that Korra is older than all of Tenzin's children. Which means Aang never got to see any of his grandchildren born. Which, idk, is kind of sad. Would have been nice if the eldest one was like a big sister type for Korra who had some memories of Aang and was more integrated into the cast as resident air bender.
i think this wouldve clashed with how much they want to build up tenzen as a character. he grows into the role of mentor which wouldve made a second mentor type character in the airbender faction more difficult to establish without having characters feel redundant. not to be misunderstood, im not the biggest fan of tenzen and would actually have preferred something like your suggestion over him as mentor figure. and korra herself already oozes big sis energy haha
Had a random realization, was the death of Aang the event that pushed Tenzin and Lin (stubbornly child-free) apart? The sudden realization of being the last one of your culture again, which pushed him to leave her eventually marry his wife and (pro)create the personal army of airbending kids he has? I bet I'm right. So it kinda makes sense the kids are younger than Korra.
She would have likely ended up being more like Katara I bet, so I could see why they went a different route and didn’t have a Katara like character in this series.
@@stephanieturner6912 There's absolutely no reason her character would inevitably end up like Korra. Women can have more than one personality type XD She could have been the Asami second girl type character.

Completley agree, I liked seeing his views on the original series and subsequent comics, I’ve been hoping we got Korra since I found this channel since I actually quite like korra’s show (nowhere near as much as ATLA) hope he keeps it going
@@EaterOfGeeseNah Korra is fantastic. Not quite as good as TLA, but a sequel never is. The ending of season 2 is pretty lame, definitely a weak point. Seasons 3 and 4 are absolutely phenomenal
When Katara says Korra is ‘Strong’ she was likely talking about her physical power, she can output a lot of force into her attacks and defend. You even noted this possibility unintentionally when Korra hugged Tenzen that she’s jacked as hell
Given Tenzin had enough time to find out Korra had been arrested to make it all the way to the station by the time Lin was grilling her, I imagine she had enough time to figure out from the shopkeeper and the street thugs that she was the avatar, and Lin probably knew of her via Tenzin and family connections even if she hadn't met Korra herself yet.
I think that symbol that keeps popping up is a representation of a lion turtle, which makes sense to be the symbol for this new, combined world of korra, as the lion turtles were the ones who taught Aang about the true nature of bending. Can’t wait to see where it’s series goes. I’ve always appreciated that you don’t play favorites and aren’t afraid to call out bad writing or animation, even in what’s obviously your favorite show
@@therion108Also in the first firebending scene, it's a FLIPPING DRAGON. Man can't recognize artistic depictions of fictional animals to save his life
It is pretty funny to cut from the mystical shot of Katara nearly talking about Zuko's mom, to a shot of Azula lunging at her mom with a Scarecrow pose 😂
I think the music in this episode was fantastic. The score when Korra takes Naga out for a ride, the golden 20s inspired swingy music in the chase in Republic City. Great stuff
Honestly, this is exactly what I wanted from this series. I love Korra, but I understand it has flaws that I might not be able to see by myself. Your honest opinions and insightful commentary are the reason we keep coming back here, and I'm confident you will continue with the same thoughtful analysis and witty charm that got us hooked in the first place. ❤
Just wanna say before the flood of comments come in saying "This is what we've all been waiting for" that the past year-ish or so of content on your channel has really been incredible. I never knew there were so many books that take place in the Avatar universe so getting to see you do a deep dive into them was awesome. There was so much lore I never knew about and it makes me so hype for not only the future of Avatar but the future of this channel!!
Overanalyzing ATLA is one of my most comforting RUclips series, something about the honesty in the writing is very entertaining. It makes me happy that Korra is being treated somewhat equally. I was in the same boat where I appreciated Korra but addored ATLA, so seeing it getting a "Overanalyzation" really excites me. I hope this continues to the whole series. good work.
I knew you'd cave some day. You said it's not gonna happen, yet, here we are. And I'm all here for it, very happy you're covering Korra as well and it's refreshing to have someone being fair to the show instead of overly praising or hating on it, as most people do. Pretty sure this project gonna be amazing ^^
16:06 A good answer to this dilema could either be: Either she kept in contact with Tenzin enough to get informed about the New Avatar's identity, and kept the secret, or the most likely one is that the few people that were present as she kicked the thugs around confirmed to her she was the avatar.
Really exited for this! I loved overanalyzing avatar, and I know I'll love this series as well. Even if I don't love Korra nearly as much as Avatar. If you care about what you're doing, I know the product will be solid!
I think this will be a great series! Korra has a lot of good that goes underappreciated, and a lot of bad that is worth repeating or just gets waved away, so I like that you have a more nuanced take that's not just completely bashing on the show or over praising it either. Excited to see the rest!
What good does it have, exactly? The first few episodes of the first season are...a'ight, but then the show completely loses the plot and don't even get me started on the last season.
@@blobbertmcblob4888 The first season is solid, if flawed. Second season is total cack but there are parts to it which aren't so bad/ interesting, like Tenzin's siblings. Third season is just generally good. Season 4 is a bit of a mixed bag but I think it comes out overall positive.
@@XanderMatthews-nv9zf I think it has problems before then but that is the point of no return. It has the Last Jedi problems of good conceptual ideas poor execution
I always feel like the biggest problem with korra was it was originally suppose to be one season, and after that they were constantly in the edge of being cancelled, so it was hard to think long term, also the constant budget cuts probably didn’t help.
@@isaacgarcia9234 more specifically its that the love triangle had no reason to be there and it weakens the entirety of korra's team avatar's characterization people like Bolin having almost no depth, a replacement for Sokka in the joke department but unlike Sokka he didn't have anything going for him, even though he is one of the characters with the most screentime the one time the story really focused on Bolin was when he was learning to lavabend/failing to metal bend its the same with Mako in way, what do we know about him except that he liked Korra and Asami, such a boring character, i had high hopes for Mako to be a replacement for Zuko but it just didn't work
I've watched all of ATLA once a year for about 10 years now, and I've watched Korra through at least 3 times and the third season specifically about 10 times. I love your stuff, man, and will watch it all if you make it!
Honestly, I was really worried you'd never get to Korra, but it's got a lot of stuff that's really interesting. Having you guide us through all the stuff that we didn't notice is really really exciting to me. I hope you can make it all the way through, and I at least will be watching every single one.
I was literally thinking yesterday “man, I hope he does legend of Korra.” Cuz as a long time fan of both, I understand all its flaws, but I still love it for what it is.
I’m so glad you finally tackled korra. I always thought korra was a lot more of a mixed bag when it comes to quality but I still think it has its moments that really shine. I think even in it’s bad moments the world avatar built is so strong it leaves me wanting more.
I'm glad this is happening because it would be interesting to see some honest takes on Korra that isn't just "Korra bad" or "underrated". And even some stuff I've never noticed.
I think a big issue I have with Korra is how much missed potential it has. Its opening episode is really good. The world is super interesting. The concepts presented are super interesting. The world evolved in a compelling way. The animation is gorgeous. That all makes it hurt more when it fumbles these concepts and gets stuck in side plots that aren't interesting involving characters that are annoying. Overall, it's a good show. It just has a big shadow it lives in and the pieces there to be so much better than it was.
I know he was apprehensive about Korra and the comics, but I'm glad he decided to do it all together after all. I'll always love Korra and the avatar world despite any personal gripes I might have. Glad to be along for the discussion once again
Omg I didn't know you did this! I binged through all of your atla series last year before finally rewatching the show last year but I haven't looked at your channel since! I absolutely LOVE legend of korra and I'm totally due for a rewatch too so this is perfect rn, I'll binge the hell out of this!
Honestly I feel like this particular series needs to be done in full just because it's clear you are a huge enjoyed and fan of the world and its lore, but you're not absolutely biased (sure little things perhaps like all of us but not enough to color the series definitively) and it's nice to see someone who loves the world have fun while sharing the good and the bad like this
the engraving on the gate at 6:00 is definitely a lion turtle, its almost the same exact design for them seen later in the Wan episode. Good video! please do the whole series, really enjoyed ATLA OA :)
I never thought about how Korra's escape was like when Sokka and Katara left the southern water tribe. I always connected it more with Aang running away.
It was definitely the former, and I think the writers were pretty heavy handed with the similarities seeing as how Katara was there to send her off in the same way Gran Gran was there to tell Katara and Sokka to go to.
just to point out the creature on the door at 6:02 i think is a haetae which are protector like sprites form Korea that in the media seem to be associated with water. what it the other one on the car in more fire nation style properly a different lion sprite cause i think there is a lot of those
As someone who's been primarily entertaining themselves with RUclips for about a decade now, I feel you are a shining beacon of how great this site can still be. A top 10 favorite channel of all time for me. I am so excited for this series 🎉
So stoked you're doing this series and I hope we get all 4 seasons! I really appreciate the impartial take on it too. There are some parts of Korra I really didn't connect with, but also some parts (namely season 3) that I thought were truly amazing! Can't wait to see more of this!
You might be able to argue that Lin can tell Korra knows more than waterbending by the way she handles herself. Earthbending in particular is very physical, relying on stances and strong movements, which could subtly change the way someone generally walks and moves. It's probably a bit of a stretch, but fun to think about
I love how positive you were about this first episode. It's easy to get hung up on some of the bad writing decisions that happen later and write off the whole show, but honestly I think you're right, this first episode is pretty dang good all things considered.
Thanks for giving it a shot, I am happy to have a possible series to look forward to. I know you have your problems with Korra but I think we would all like you to poke some fun at it as you did with a few moments in ATLA.
I’m super excited that you’re doing Korra now! Two things I absolutely adore about this show is it’s music and combat choreography! I will for sure be tuning into every episode!
5:50 another thing: the way the necklace is carved (bigger pendant & longer cord) almost reminds me of like, if aang, when he was making it, tried to combine the look of the betrothal necklaces with a type of necklace important to air nation culture. For all we know, there could have been an air nation necklace specifically for an air nomad to give to their lover if they fall in love while they’re away from the air temples.
I watched you’re airbender analysis while quarantining during the pandemic. I‘m still very thankful for you having brightened up these dark days. Therefore I’m happy you started analysing Korra too. Hoping to see more very soon! ❤
I'm really happy you decided to do Korra. I watched up to season 2 when Korra originally came out and didn't continue with it (not a surprise). But then I heard Janet Varney (Korra's voice actor) in a bunch of podcasts and she was so charming that I went back and watched the final 2 seasons. So because of Janet, I like the show but I think this channel will give me a different appreciation for the show with all the fun nit picks and pointing out fun references.
I’m genuinely so happy that you’re doing korra. For some reason I’ve been more attached to korra then Airbender and I thought you’d never do an over analyzing on it. You’ve made my day I appreciate you so much.
@@lucawasserer cool Thats what we call *An opinion* And we differ So lets settle for what we think and don't waste time inserting our opinions, unrequested
Thank you so much for covering this show as well! From Air Bender, to the comics, to now Korra. This series is awesome, and it's always funny, interesting, and entertaining to hear you talk about it.
I hope you continue the series. Your ATLA was gaining momentum in your editing, joke delivery, and analysis. I was hoping for this show because there are things I'd forgotten about or never notice.
Banger jokes in this one, great start to the series! Also I guess Katara has some strange "might makes right" philosophy since she's always the one making these weird comments how strong people are.
I doubt she's talking about "power" in the way that DBZ does. I take it as her just meaning skilled. Though I could make the arguement there is a "strength" factor to bending. I mean just look at Katara's bending in episode one versus her fight with Hama under the full moon. The raw *amount* a person can bend may be considered their "strength."
I am so excited to watch you go through the whole series. I have a lot of complicated feelings about Korra, but I don't really fall into any full on hate or love camps for it. I actually wish that they were making a live action Korra Netflix show instead of Airbender, that way they could look at what worked and what didn't, and fine tune things about the series as they went.
I like the idea, but I think doing a live action version of Korra instead of ATLA would rile people up even more. I even doubt that a live action of ATLA is going to work, even though One Piece was surprisingly good (and that's probably harder to do in live action).
Well this was unexpected yet welcome! I recently rewatched the whole of the original Overanalyzing and it holds a special place in my heart and while Korra is different, I am sure your style will make this series as entertaining. Poor Hammarkids tho, hope this doesn't put him out of business 😂
I’m so excited to hear you call out the good and the bad of this series! This is of course not as good as ATLA. But, it has some really great parts to it that I love. I think there are some scenes that are beautifully done. And I’m so ready to hear your take on the series
5:03 I always said that bending is like the force in the Star Wars legends comic. Luke says that the Force is like a door and some people’s doors are more open than others but with time and training you will slowly open it more. You’ve got people who were born powerful and people who originally sucked at bending become masters of it.
I'm so glad this is happening, you've no idea how excited I've been to see someone just be objective about this show. Because it has a lot of good that gets neglected by haters, and a lot of bad that gets neglected by fanboys. I think if anyone can give a neutral approach it will be you. I gotta note though, with Lin Beifong knowing Korra was the Avatar before the rest of the city (at 15:18). She is the chief of police so... It feels pretty likely she would be informed by the White Lotus at one point or another.
So glad you're doing this. I really hope you do the entire series. There is stuff in later seasons I'd like to hear your take on. I feel like you've continued the tone of the other Overanalyzing videos. Keep up the good work.
16:19 ever noticed theres like blueprints for the mech things in the background in this shot? I feel like its the kind of thing that would be pointed out loads but i just noticed and have never seen it pointed out before lol
Lmfao I've seen the Legend of Whiplash Tenzin edit so much that it felt weird for Korra's line at 14:08 to not be followed with _"THEN WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SAY SO?!"_
I never expected you to cover Kora and I'm really glad that it sounds like your community didn't bully you into covering it when you didn't want to. Looking forward to more episodes and I'm really curious how you feel about each of the antagonists.
I'm really glad you're giving Korra what it deserves. By no means is it an amazing show, but there are good things about it here and there. I have my issues with it, but the things that were good left me with a soft spot for it as well as my favorite character in Korra. The good and the bad should be taken into consideration equally. Either alone isn't correct. I can't wait to see more!
I am so happy to see you actually covering Korra. I know the show has its issues but over all I really love this series and the world building it does give us. Please keep covering this please! Thank you!
10:32 Bridge design from Kyoshi island is a Moon Bridge that’s an existing Asian architectural style. The half moon bridge reflected over water creates a full moon shape and nods to yin and Yang. Learned this at the Japanese Garden of the Phoenix in Chicago
In reference to Lin not knowing Korra is the Avatar: What about the report from the citizens that watched her fight the thugs? I think Lin would have had a few notes on someone using three different bending types (assuming the notes she was reading weren't blank lol)
16:06 Normally I would find this difficult to believe. But, considering that Lin is a seasoned cop, and has likely led quite a few interrogations, it wouldn’t be that unreasonable to assume she’s probably gotten pretty good at reading other people’s mannerisms.
Definitely wanna see you tackle this whole series if you can, I know it has it's issues but I still personally love it just as much as ATLA And I just love when you point out things like the cyclops from this episode 😂
YESSSSSSSS! I cannot explain the excitement I felt when I saw that you're starting this series. I've watched your Overanalyzing Avatar series several times and I have no doubt that you will continue sharing your honest, fair, and unapologetic perspective and I'm here for it!

15:35 "Lin would probably know about Korra since her and Tenzin were dating most likely at a time where Korra was a kid." "How did Lin know she was the Avatar?" "Does she have Jeong-jeong level awareness?" - It's not that complicated... she knows Tenzin, she knows Korra's name, photography exists, she could have seen her when Korra was a toddler, the police probably took statements from witnesses... > There are probably even more ways that she could have known that I didn't think of...
5:52 also the necklace being like that could be a nod to the 'top dog air nomad' necklace. I could see Aang making a combination betrothal necklace that takes from both cultures.
I have no idea how many views, comments and everything else you need to make this a full series, but I'm hoping from the bottom of my heart that it works out
Really good start to overanalzing korra! I love your signature critical quips whenever something weird or inconsistent happens. Really stoked to see more of it!
Lol, I would guess that the design when she's taking her fire test at 4:15 might be some kind of dragon in the Mayan or Aztec style, because the Sun Warriors in ATLA were based on South American culture, so it's like an homage to them. The creature on the water tribe gate at 5:59 is a chinese style lion that you see a lot in ancient chinese culture on gates and doors. Not sure what a stone lion would have to do with water tribe culture specifically, but this world took a lot of inspiration from ancient Asia, so I can see why they would just add it to look cool.
8:43 I thought they explained in book 3 that they kept Korra locked up because of the threat of Zaheer and them saying Aang told them to do so was a lie

Big same. The roasts always feel lighthearted in nature and not vitriolic. The moon gag gets me every time.
Completley agree, I liked seeing his views on the original series and subsequent comics, I’ve been hoping we got Korra since I found this channel since I actually quite like korra’s show (nowhere near as much as ATLA) hope he keeps it going
I watched the first two or three seasons and honestly I don't like the show. It's pretty good but not for a sequel of something so great
@@EaterOfGeeseNah Korra is fantastic.
Yeah but its still kind of a dumb line. Like yeah no shit katara (or the writers) i have eyes shes kicking ass right now
Given Tenzin had enough time to find out Korra had been arrested to make it all the way to the station by the time Lin was grilling her, I imagine she had enough time to figure out from the shopkeeper and the street thugs that she was the avatar, and Lin probably knew of her via Tenzin and family connections even if she hadn't met Korra herself yet.

"It wasn't that exciting"
The panel: BET!
I think the music in this episode was fantastic. The score when Korra takes Naga out for a ride, the golden 20s inspired swingy music in the chase in Republic City. Great stuff
Yeah I agree.
Atla already had amazing soundtrack, but imo Jeremy Zuckerman outdid himself in Korra
I love the music for Korra. Two thumbs up.

Would probably make more people appreciate it for what it is than hate it for what it isn’t

The biggest problem with Korra is Season 2.

I’m so glad you finally tackled korra. I always thought korra was a lot more of a mixed bag when it comes to quality but I still think it has its moments that really shine. I think even in it’s bad moments the world avatar built is so strong it leaves me wanting more.
5:20 I think it’s like a figure skating Olympic event and they have to tally up points for different aspects of her performance.

He tends to point out a lot to of things most wouldn’t think of, I know I didn’t.
It was definitely the former, and I think the writers were pretty heavy handed with the similarities seeing as how Katara was there to send her off in the same way Gran Gran was there to tell Katara and Sokka to go to.

12:56 The officer’s bending is what was keeping the cable attached to her hair, once he goes splat it loses its grip
So glad you're doing Korra! I laughed so hard at the zoom in to the moon. Very excited for the rest of the season/show!
I hate how metal bending is portrayed with the police feels so much more like web slingers than actual bending

And a big part of her character development is that attitude getting beaten out of her repeatedly.
You are one of the few youtubers who can illicit genuine excitement from me. This series is gonna be great
I started rewatching Korra, last week. The timing couldn't have been better! I love your videos!
Well this was unexpected yet welcome! I recently rewatched the whole of the original Overanalyzing and it holds a special place in my heart and while Korra is different, I am sure your style will make this series as entertaining. Poor Hammarkids tho, hope this doesn't put him out of business 😂

so excited to see your opinions on this show, been excited for this since I first found your channel!
6:05 i'm pretty sure that's supposed to be a lion turtle
I'm so glad this is happening, you've no idea how excited I've been to see someone just be objective about this show. Because it has a lot of good that gets neglected by haters, and a lot of bad that gets neglected by fanboys. I think if anyone can give a neutral approach it will be you.
I gotta note though, with Lin Beifong knowing Korra was the Avatar before the rest of the city (at 15:18). She is the chief of police so... It feels pretty likely she would be informed by the White Lotus at one point or another.
So glad you’re doing Korra, can’t wait to see them all! I hope you do all 4 seasons!
12:19 he’s a metalbender! He can just keep the cable away from his knuckles
So glad you're doing this. I really hope you do the entire series. There is stuff in later seasons I'd like to hear your take on. I feel like you've continued the tone of the other Overanalyzing videos. Keep up the good work.

Lmfao I've seen the Legend of Whiplash Tenzin edit so much that it felt weird for Korra's line at 14:08 to not be followed with _"THEN WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SAY SO?!"_
9:40 Igloos have a hole at the top to vent the fire inside... maybe they have two fires?
Thank you!
And let's hope he really is fair about some of its better ideas
10:32 Bridge design from Kyoshi island is a Moon Bridge that’s an existing Asian architectural style. The half moon bridge reflected over water creates a full moon shape and nods to yin and Yang. Learned this at the Japanese Garden of the Phoenix in Chicago
In reference to Lin not knowing Korra is the Avatar:
What about the report from the citizens that watched her fight the thugs? I think Lin would have had a few notes on someone using three different bending types (assuming the notes she was reading weren't blank lol)
16:06 Normally I would find this difficult to believe. But, considering that Lin is a seasoned cop, and has likely led quite a few interrogations, it wouldn’t be that unreasonable to assume she’s probably gotten pretty good at reading other people’s mannerisms.
4:14 I think it's supposed to be a dragon... a stylized dragon? that or a cow-snake... a cowbra?
Definitely wanna see you tackle this whole series if you can, I know it has it's issues but I still personally love it just as much as ATLA
And I just love when you point out things like the cyclops from this episode 😂

15:35 "Lin would probably know about Korra since her and Tenzin were dating most likely at a time where Korra was a kid."
"How did Lin know she was the Avatar?" "Does she have Jeong-jeong level awareness?"
- It's not that complicated... she knows Tenzin, she knows Korra's name, photography exists, she could have seen her when Korra was a toddler, the police probably took statements from witnesses...
> There are probably even more ways that she could have known that I didn't think of...
5:52 also the necklace being like that could be a nod to the 'top dog air nomad' necklace.
I could see Aang making a combination betrothal necklace that takes from both cultures.

Yes! Please do the whole show, there's a whole bunch of moments throughout that I'd love to hear your thoughts on. Can't wait!
3:22 it's already worth it, just for the door joke to make a comeback!
"There aint no words on that paper, I saw, I looked." lmao 13:15
