Vos‘ never give up attitude just underlines her status as the G.O.A.T. 💪🏻
Incredible!
I'm sorry but that's ridiculous, Vos just does a normal sprint and the big dog bizarrely took the win and tossed it in the garbage... that's not a "never give up" attitude, nothing about it reflects positively or negatively on Vos.
@@00100Matt Jeez, what a weird take on a perfectly reasonable point
Not a reasonable point, it’s wrong. Wiebes didn’t give up, she thought she’d done enough to win. Vos didn’t do anything unusual or commendable… pretending she did is weird to me
@@00100Matt If she just light pedalled because she was passed by Wiebe she would lose but she did NOT and in fact she finished hard and take the win as a bonus. It is nothing special for YOU who is not a PRO with a 251st win
It's tragicomic to throw away a win like that. What's more, with Flanders Classics taking over the Amstel Gold Race next year, you know that they'll make the women's route harder and longer. A pure sprinter like Wiebes will probably never get a chance like that again
Totally amateur hour. So embarrassing for a professional to do that.
Dan with the best intros in the biz 🙌 "...sprints for victory...and also, doesn't win"
She's celebrating for vos.😂😂
Vos has also been caught out self saluting too early. What a fkn arrogant mindset cyclists have.
@@JaemanEdwards What a statement. Wonder what you are doing on a cycling thread... you don't really seem to like the sport judging from your comments
Sportmanship at its finest😂
@@DJM9678 I love the sport snowflake
@@JaemanEdwards As demonstrated by "What a fkn arrogant mindset cyclists have". And snowflake seems to be your favourite word, right 😂
The race ain't over until you cross the line, never celebrate before.
She did an "Alaphilippe"... I'm sure there's an equivalent in English, we say in French "Il ne faut pas vendre la peau de l'ours avant de l'avoir tué." (You should not sell the bear skin before killing the bear; wait for confirmation before announcing something. I think it's a bird in hand is worth two in the bush or something like that in English.)
No, not quite the same.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush means it's more worthwhile having something smaller, less important or of less value in your possession, than hoping for or focussing on something that is apparently bigger, more important or more valuable yet which you don't have possession of, and could sacrifice the one you do, in its pursuit.
The saying you'd look for (that relates to the bear) is 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch'. 👍
Never count your chickens before they've hatched
Dan, I think you're an excellent story teller. Thanks!
First thing I said after watching the finish line camera replay on Eurosport app...
"Lorena has done a Lasty! " ;)
😂
Tom also celebrated too early! Lucky for him he still had the lead over the line.
I really appreciate Lorena Wiebes' humility whilst maintaining a smile when being interviewed, post-race. Just a word to you sprinters: If you've got the lead, stay next to the barriers. Wiebes opened the door for Marianna Vos to sneak through. Then, she only looked to her right. Great win for Vos.
If she had pedaled through the line in a tuck position she wins by a yard. She stood up for goodness sake, imbecilic.
The amstel weekend with the sportive on the saturday makes it one of the best weekends in the sport a real fun blast
Reminds me of when I liked and followed GCN regularly. Dan is GCN.
Hard lesson to learn for Weibes. Congrats to Vos on that push all the way across the line.
Spot-on about Vos. She's not just strong and fast, she's excellent technically and tactically.
Pidcock is sort of similar - very versatile, clever and skilled. Though without the massive career and legacy (yet?).
No Pidcock is not similar. Not even close. Terrible comparison.
@@JaemanEdwards What do you mean? He is quick, skilled, multi-discipline and wins in diverse ways. Why is the comparison terrible? I'm not saying he's as great as she is (nowhere close) but in terms of versatility of abilities.
I'd argue about the technical side; she was well out of her depth in XCO MTB racing......
@@john-tomlinson The multi discipline thing is the only similarity.
@@WerdnaLiten And Pidcock is not a big track rider. But they are both more versatile than is typical - versatile, clever and skilled.
I miss GCN+. I might keep saying that. Long live GCN.
we miss it too 🫶
Cyclist: aero is everything. Also cyclist: ride sat bolt upright with your arms in the air
Glad that Enrico Zanoncello won the sprint in Stage 1 of the Giro d'Abruzzo as Matteo Malucelli came all the way across from next to the centerline, _during the sprint,_ to jam him up against the boards.
We are overlooking how strong lennys preformace was on the final climb he did over 7wkg for 10 mins which is insane power
Everyone who has never made a foolish mistake, raise their hand.
Vos the BOSS
She hasn't been the boss since 2013
It always feels to me that it's disrespectful to the other riders when a racer celebrating when there are still riders within a bike length. Unless you're so dominant that you've solo'd to the finish line maybe wait until you've actually won.
It's largely about getting a good finish line photo - you posted up while the others are still sprinting. This is important for pictures in the news .. for the team.. for sponsors. For all the racers it's not seen as disrespectful. Merely part of the job. Obviously it's not worth risking the win for - especially these days where finish line photos are far less important than they were back when the main way people got race updates was the newspaper where there'd be just one picture.
MVDP just there for a group ride. He have the legs and always at front. He have the opportunity to attack but he seems to light pedalled and let it go
I understand the lifting of one's arms in victory, I had that thrill a handful of times decades ago, but no, I don't understand the need to do it before a victory has officially been secured. A successful solo arrival, sure, of course, nobody in sight to snatch it, but not otherwise. And I even think any rider should be free to lift his or her arms at the line, safely of course, in a moment of personal triumph or gratitude or relief or salute over a final participation.
There is an element of making sure the sponsors are very visible in the images TV and photographers will be taking. It may sound a bit cynical, but the sponsors are how the riders get paid, so they do their best to help showcase them.
How often is the finishing gantry ahead of the line, why isnt it at the line.I will be watching future events.
GCN stage crew please paint that brick…😂🎨
As easy as it is - no celebrations BEFORE the finish line!
Two comments about MVDP and what a menace he is: pointing out that he ran out of teammates (outperforming all of them) and also pointing out that he in fact didn't win. Imagine being such a beast of a cyclist overall.
They have radios and Vos has form for not giving in. What more do you need to know?
Regarding WIebes, remember Julian Alaphilippe doing almost the same against Roglic in Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2020....
Not the same, Alaphilippe was relegated for cutting across Hirschi and Pogacar, so even if he crossed the line first he wouldn't have won.
@@andrasszabo1570Well, on the road was exactly the same situation(the relegation was after the race) - JA celebrated early and PR overtook him.
You say pris should never make this mistake, but they are only human, (even MVP😊) Emotions got the better of her
@00:00:55 Makishima
David Gaudot in a Lenny Martinez sandwich, Dan? Given that we named a sandwich after it's filling and not the bread, shouldn't it be a David Gaudot sandwich with Martinez the bread???
Thats buffalo to all 3 riders.
Serves her right, she should know better. Didn't Si Richardson once do it and Russ Downing nip under his arm to win🤔
The ONLY question is WHO PISSED IN TOM’s victory BEER 🍺 ????
It's "Giro d'Abruzzo", not "Giro da Bruzzo"! Abruzzo is an Italian region, it writes like Giro d'Italia.
Tom lost the sprint for the 🍺 drinking contest
Lorena Wiebes has 77 career victories - more than Mattieu van der Poel
oh ok
I just don't get the need to celebrate before you cross the finish line. Why do they do this?
only mathieu could use the amstel as a training ride
Van der poel is a smart guy. He only cares for the monument races and was definitely bluffing. I would imagine he had amazing legs at Amstel gold but didn't want to make a huge solo effort 1 week before LBL.
If you do that in horse racing, you get a lengthy ban.......It's unforgiveable really.
And once again GCN proves it is no use to have British commentary for an international sport. They always are biased to their own racers. Be that F1, Cycling, Mountainbiking, or Cross. Staggering to see it in professional sports.
With the odd of MVDP so high on winning, and the fact that he is nowhere, I wonder if we need a investigation on some strange under the table business
What do you mean he was nowhere? They just attacked him on the perfect spot, just before the 22% climb where VDP struggles, because his power/weight is not the same as for example, pidcock. And he did not have teammates to bring him back. If he does it himself, everybody just chills behind him and attacks him before the finish. Please think about saying stupid things and/or making accusations of this sort. These rumors can destroy lives and careers.
Please add chapters separating the items on mens & women's races.
I have just watched Steve Williams be presented on the top step of the podium having won Fleche-Wallonne. I was however disappointed and ashamed to hear both commentators Matt and Luke talk over the UK national anthem. It is extremely disrespectful to talk over any national anthem of any country during the presentation ceremony. Please don’t do it
I’ve stopped saying the infamous country name and the word nation in the startup team,
I’m thinking a few commercial sponsors have been banned for human rights infringement, let alone killing thousand of civil and enforcing apartheid. Countries at war don’t get to wave a sport flag and name drop in peaceful sport events.
It’s about time UCI act.
Shame that the results were spoiled by news posts from GCN
And yet they still do it
"Matthieu"? "Giro da Bruzzo"?
goat v GOAT
Annemiek is the GOAT
@@JaemanEdwards PFP always gets ignored.....
@@WerdnaLiten She was the GOAT for one season. Love to see her give the mtb up and finish her career giving it all on the road. Great and very hearty rider.
Doh - schoolgirl error 🤦
Wiebes is a superior sprinter by far. Voss just doesn't know how to respectfully lose. Everybody knows its etiquette to slow down once the winner recognizes.
Everybody knows that prizes are won at the finish line.
"Everybody knows it's etiquette to slow down once the winner recognizes." You must have bumped your head or are talking about a completely different sport.
@@RocketRuss _sArCazm..._ 😜
The winner is the first across the line. Not the one who starts celebrating before they cross the line.
Disagree, Vos is racing for minor places, she can't sit up because Wiebes did, and risk being overtaken by other riders. There is an argument for Vos graciously giving Wiebes the win after the fact... this way Vos doesn't take a bad win that is hard to feel good about, and gets to be honored as a redeemer of sins :D
man I just hate your video titles. blocking you now.
glad Thomas Pidcock won, now the guy on discover can finally shut up about him
