- Christopher Nolan wants to make a Horror movie. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer was a masterpiece, but now the director has discussed the potential of making a horror movie. In this video, I discuss Christopher Nolan's comments on making a horror, what that might look like and whether I think it will be his next film.
Oppenheimer is an upcoming American biographical film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is based on American Prometheus, a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The film is a co-production between Syncopy Inc. and Atlas Entertainment; Nolan produced the film alongside Emma Thomas and Charles Roven. Cillian Murphy leads an ensemble cast as Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who is among those credited with being the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in the Manhattan Project-the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, David Dastmalchian, Olli Haaskivi, Jason Clarke, James D’Arcy, Michael Angarano, Guy Burnet, Danny Deferrari, Matthias Schweighöfer, Gary Oldman, Harrison Gilbertson, Emma Dumont, Devon Bostick, Trond Fausa, Christopher Denham, Josh Zuckerman, Josh Peck and Olivia Thirlby.

In this video, I discuss Christopher Nolan's comments on wanting to make a horror movie, what that could look like and whether I can see it being his next genre.
The Prestige was the closest he came to making a horror film so far and it's my favourite film by him 👍🏼
A Christopher Nolan horror film would melt my psyche. I’d never sleep again, because I’d spend the rest of my night deconstructing it.
Would it be actually be scary though? I mean horror movies these days simply rely on quiet quiet BANG to shock audiences. I’m not saying he’d do that, but i can’t think of how you can actually make a film scary. I would suspect it would be more psychological, what do you think?

as good as that sounds I would hate a nuanced arthouse film like Nope that failed to scare anybody and people still defend it as a valid horror movie

Oddly enough his two most least cared about movies like Dunkirk and Tenet absolutely freak me out the most compared to his other films.
I just came out of the theatre watching Inception. It’s only the second time I’ve watched it in the cinema since its original run, but the 10th+ overall. Let me tell you, that “jumpscare” when Mal turns and looks at Ariadne as she is spying on her and Cobb still gets me every time!
And with the way he handled Oppenheimer’s victory speech and his testimony later, this will definitely be an interesting take on the genre!
Nolan could do a Lovecraftian horror movie-he could really get away with obscuring the alien so he can use practical effects more easily. Depending on the setting and such, he could really show great scale too with IMAX format.
I honestly don't care what genre he tackles, I love everything he does.
This would be so awesome. Nolan is very capable of making an extremely captivating horror film, I will watch whatever this man makes!
Chris is practically the only major director who can successfully venture into any movie genre. There are no boundaries to his talent.

He almost kind of wrote a horror film. I remember reading that Inception before being shelved and then revised was a horror film about dream stealers and lucid dreaming. It would definitely be interesting to see Nolan write and direct a horror film especially psychological horror film. I don’t think Nolan’s next film will be a horror film though because in interviews he said that he wants to create something lighter.
Nolan has the potential to do this generations The Shining. I would love to see Inception like horror movie about nightmares

This is what I think could be working for Nolan tackling horror genre with is visual directing style. A science fiction deep space cosmic horror, a mix of mystical unknown entity/deity object in space like 2001 Space Odyssey with Event Horizon.
He Could make a Cosmic Horror worthy of H.P. Lovecraft! If made a more Simple Horror Movie... I'm sure he would give the Best of Story, Effect, Acting, and Comment.

I'm more into psychological horror for him.
My problem(s) with him and straight up horror are that he won't ever push for anything that delves into harder R, but more importantly how much he would rely on sound to the point of massive jump scares, which are largely ineffective.

What i am sure about Christopher Nolan horror movie is that it will have lots of plots and beats which will have forward momentum than any other horror genres which is mainly showing the same plot(beat) over again and again ie monster attacking hero and hero escaping.
A horror film by Christopher Nolan would be great to see!!! I personally would love to see him direct a James Bond film, but a horror film will be different and exciting.

I would say something like in the mouth of madness are the call of Cthulhu unfortunately they are both being done by other great directors. Something like dreams in the witch house would be good though anyway I think he'd be one to really pull off lovecraftian inspired horror like no one else
An apocalyptic horror movie as follow up to Oppenheimer would be great. With Cillian Murphy in another role within an ensemble cast great! Cillian has an eerie look. I'd watch anything Nolan does anyway but certainly he can do better horror movie than all the trashy horror B quality Hollywood has been bombarded us in the last years
Yes, that is exciting! Very unusual for me to actually feel real fear in a movie. In Oppenheimer I think the public turning against him was very moving.
As far as where he might go with horror, I'm wondering if he might tell the story of a troubled genius like Nicola Tesla or George Ellery Hale or maybe a fictional spin-off of one of these. Exploring their thoughts and fears could bring in some mind-bending scares.
He's my favorite director and horror is my favorite genre so f'Yas!!!

Imagine if Nolan made a horror movie with the same premise as Mr robot (not the plot but the schizo part) I’m trying to be vague but if you have seen the show you know what I’m talking about. Having that “other” as a serial killer or something would be cool

A Christopher Nolan horror film sounds amazing and also terrifying. My immediate thoughts go to some post-apocalyptic future where biology and AI technology are closely integrated, then humanity becomes derailed and an Human-AI hive-mind is established. Zombie movie type horror with AI the cause instead of a virus. Whatever he does, stick Chalamet and Hardy in it and were away!

Zombies aren't releastic and done to death, so he will probably do something unique that we haven't seen before.
