Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger explains the band’s long break & the story behind ‘Steel Still Rusts’

- Nickelback is back with a brand new album called 'Get Rollin.'
The band’s lead singer and guitarist Chad Kroeger spent a few minutes with 98 Rock’s Marianne Sierk and Rob Maher.
Chad talks to the hosts about why we did not hear from the band for a stretch of time. Chad also tells us the story behind one of the songs from the new album called, “Steel Still Rusts.”
That's one of the things I love about Chad. He is an amazing songwriter, he can get inspiration from the most random stories people tell him and create art. It's like looking life with caleidoscope glasses. I feel like I have that too. Love him 🥰

That’s interesting…that song is very similar song (lyric-wise) to a Poison song about a body-guard that was a Vietnam veteran. Something to Believe in I believe it was. Not a big Poison fan, but I dig the fact that songs were written. That’s the difference between the the bands from the 80’s and 90’s, (or bands who were influenced by bands from that era), and the entitled, self-loathing, miserable, haters that using music as a tool to complain about how much their lives suck. Nickelback is one of the last great bands to write GREAT songs about good times, or the occasional deep, reverent topic. They deserve all the success they’ve achieved.
One of my favorite Poison songs, has real emotion and meaning.

@@bmwpete65s55 Ahhh….thank you! That’s the song I was referring to. Yeah. Wasn’t a huge Poison fan, but they were good guys. Looking back, had I known the miserable, self-loathing, sh!t-fest to hit the music scene (that’s still there to this day), I never would’ve said I a critical word about that band. There is a hawk who is an ex South African mercenary, very popular in our country, who discribes world events on RUclips. Probably not the same guy 🙂
