Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

That first CMW still my favorite of all of em. Hard beats and rhymes, and DJ Mike T was cuttin it up nice. I sure miss scratching in rap songs, always one of my favorite things about hip hop. Loved hearing dope verses get cut up for a chorus in a song. Props to all the real djs out there.
‘My dj mike T cuts like a savage *scratch*’
I give up nothing #classic
Mine too..so different from all other stuff that was out back then
DJ Ant C was the original dj
Yeah the sampling on that album was on another level, very creative
MC REN VERY UNDERRATED MC MUSICIAN UNSUNG WEST COAST WORLDWIDE ARTIST I BEEN LISTENING MC REN SINCE THE 1980'S HE ALWAYS STOOD OUT IN NWA
Agreed. He's severely underrated
I was just bumping the blue tape yesterday, shot out to chill and CMW…
One time gaffled em up. Man everybody had that tape.
Tha Chill the only legendary producer that can bring Compton's Most Wanted's MC Eiht and Niggaz With Attitude's MC Ren both on an album together.
Let's be real, a MC Ren & MC Eiht joint collaboration album would an automatic classic!!!
Whatever happened to N.O.T.R project with Boom Bam???? Because Tha Chill was only part of CMW for It's A Compton Thang album and the Grownin Up In The Hood song. Eiht and DJ Mike Tee were CMW for those other albums. I was waiting on that N.O.T.R project since I saw them in the booklet to Music to Driveby
Recorded but never released except on a promo tape
Wit lil hawk n Byrd
There's a track from this project on the CMW's album "represent"...it's a hiden track ar the end of this album

Legendary. Excellent Interview 👊🏽
Dope interview
I had no idea Mc Ren dropped a new album. I just listened to it. It's 🔥. Production is top notch. Mc Ren voice has changed a little. But he's still spitting. His voice is still hard. Great music to live forever.
We're glad we led you to MC Ren's new "Osiris" project. The production on there is definitely great. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Listened to it today. Seeing the 'old' MC Ren logo got me excited, but let's be real, it's not that great.
Right after I listened to Kizz my Black Azz again... well, then you know what's really 🔥. Thanks for leading me to the new MC Ren anyway! Definitely one of my favorite MC's of all time, but you gotta be critical whoever it is.
Thanks!!! Love this. CMW Str8 Check'n Um

Maaan always wondered where he been
Man I can't even front I ain't really got into the project but I've been hearing a little sound bites of ran on some joints that I never heard him on and it did have that feeling I'm looking forward to hearing it CMW was always one of my favorites!!! And the early West Coast hip-hop always had that nice mix of audio chop up in it that had that hip hop flavor. That's what's up
“Knock ‘Em Out the Box” was a banger!
Dj slip produced a lot of songs 4 cmw
He was like the dr dre of cmw. Hands 👐 down.
C.M.W. is legendary 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Love these legends!! Those still here giving us that shit we have grown up loving!! Now the lyrics are more deep, grown G type, smarter, educated, just still gangsta!!!! But better sounding cuz of growing old. 43 yrs old. Since 89

NWA & CMW
Most hardcore legendary compton rap groups
I wish they did a song together
#Rip Eazy E
Bring back scratching🙏🏼🇬🇧👊🏼
I love CMW! I'm from CCompton, and I banged they're music. At some point, my neighborhood stopped getting along with there's, but I didn't GAF! Much love to the brothers.
It is thanks to these old school West Coast artists that we still have good rap music. What's going to happen when there is no more and at this moment they're all given us a new s*** after this rap will be dead.
What I wanna know is why he ain’t rapped more with Eith back then, as nice as he is, I don’t even remember any CMW track he been on
Not 100 percent sure I think Chill was locked up a few times during their early 90s albums making it difficult to take part in most of their recordings
Plus, Chill's voice has changed. He definitely was on enough CMW tracks but you wouldn't recognize it because he sounds raspy now. He didn't before. Listen to the album version of "Growing up in the Hood". That's Eiht and Chill with two verses a piece
He was definitely rappin on the first album. I like this song late night hype and he is on that one. Then like others said, I believe he was locked up during the making of some of the other projects
He was on Im wit dat
He was on the blue tape
Ren was definitely underrated his word play was mad dope it’s a shame he got overshadowed
Chill forgot to mention the story teller on the song he produced Shot calla. That joint was a great story and delivery. Great interview!!!
Tha Chill got beats also! Tight producer
Absolutely, El Light. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
' Lost ' is a classic

Chill💪🏿💪🏿. The whole CMW/Half Ounce camp was is a such a talented gathering of Crips & Bloods that were great artist & producers/dj's. Dj Slip, Willie Z, Unknown, Mike T, Chill, Eiht, N.O.T.R. Chill gets his credit from me!!
Real Gangsta shit is paying your bills and looking after your own, not drivebys and bitches.
Great words🇬🇧👊🏼
CC Riders for life

Look how Eazy-E tried to help everyone out. But they came out with the narrative that he was getting over on Cube and Dre. Truth is Eazy didn't have none of the artist signed after blowing them up, which is bad on Eazy's part no tthe artist. Cube is now a free agent and Priority offers him a deal to go around Ruthless and sign directly to them and his album can come out next instead of waitig on Ruthless to release another NWA, DOC, REN etc. Cube has to save face so he makes it like he not getting paid.
Yep. Eazy was just figuring out the financial part of the business himself too in the beginning. Look at all the other artists he dealt with throughout his life, they all talk about how he helped them and how generous he was to everyone. I know Bone had complaints about their deal, but that was after they blew up. Eazy just signed them to a deal starting off, and if he had lived im sure he wouldve reworked things with them. Its just like with anything, you dont give someone a max contract when they are first starting, they have to prove themselves, then renegotiate. Cube and Dre had people in their ears, look at how things turned out with Dre at Death Row, he left all his music there. Thats alot worse than anything that ever happened with Eazy. Suge was a cancer to hip hop tho, always f'n things up for people.
@@DB800187 Eazy-E helped all them out. Cube left because Priority was going behind his back trying to sign them when they found out none of the members were signed to Ruthless. Things went so fast for NWA that they blew up and was on tour without a contract. People don't realize thats BETTER FOR THE ARTIST. No record label is going to promote an artist, put them in videos, album out and on tour and blow them up and not have them signed. Now you got Cube as a free agent. And he was thinking he should get what Eazy-E got when the money came in. Eazy-E was the CEO and artist. You don't get what he gets.
@@urbanflavorz that's kinda true, but I don't think he gave them much credit when he released his solo n Jerry also took a big piece
@@SANxJONERO Jerry didn't take a big peace. He took 20% of what came in to Ruthless. And Cube wasn't around for Eazy Duz it album which came out first. Cube was in college
@9:32 That's Gangsta! [WHAT'S POWERFUL] Words from the TRU OG ChiLL💯 - ChiLL with the "OG Golf Hat"!!!! That's pure OG L.A. Shit since 1580 KDAY AM💯 Where the heLL did he get that joint?! Shout out to Big Chill's lil bro "LiL Chill"👑 I'm definitely heading to check out REN'S Album OSIRUS and Purchase💯 #WestCoast #TRUEra🔥
#CPT80z90z🔥
Cmw & nwa should be on verzuz
Yea bro, REN’s EP is banging, but what happened with the voices’ mixing? Ruins the thing.
Deadly Threat is a good storyteller
What the name of the Compton compilation he mention me said Dj Slip put together
The name of the compilation is the Compton compilation.
Cmw Nwa
Two different groups
MC Ren+MC Eiht album!!!
I can't lie. I didn't like Osiris. The music was cool, but Ren needs to stop.
How about an MC Ren+MC Eiht album?
Remember, MC Ren been out of the studio in about 10+ and years. Probably a little rust but he still a lyrical genius.
@@Mr.Majestic77 have you listened to Rens album? I didn't like it. He was too laid back. I think Lessons by Mc Eiht was one of the best records of 2020. He never left the game though. He has an album out now. It's pretty good, but it kinda sounds like an extension of Lessons. Ren needs to get with Dre, and get that hunger back.
His voice is slightly different. But he's older now. Shit still flows perfectly tho. I appreciate his album. Keep the real hiphop coming.
@@PuertoR0ck I disagree. Listen to "if it ain't ruff it ain't me " and listen to any song on his new album. He ain't even trying. I'd be surprised if he sold 1000 units.
give it up, give it up u know what's on my mind,u been wasting to much time
Osiris lol the b.s propaganda always on full display
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, Hostile Savage.
