Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Redman is one of my favorite MCs, the other one is KRS One. Redman has many classic albums and collaboration songs. Redman talent reaches the interstellar.
Redman is a great one, B. Lopez. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
He's so original and so underrated. He's in my top 5 though.
Redman was great - agreed. If any thing he shouldve gone a little further as they had a tv show with Method man. As usual, beefing or some political message and nitpick stuff always trifles down our music.
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 He still good. Listen to 80 Barz, 1990 Now, Slap Da Shit Outcha, and more.
But nobody takes him seriously 😳
Redman catalog is crazy! He is one on my top 15 emcees of all time
Yea I like Redman he is among my top twenty
Red is a beast!
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, Mr Workowt.
He's a force, Mike Gillins. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
For sure, Stacksmusic. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Brother J and PARIS are the most serious and consistent brothers to ever hit the game. No compromise or clown shit. EVER!! Manhood.
Indeed, Allen Gordon. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
Paris? Ain’t that the Rakim sound alike? My memory is blurry
@@Threepointfive You can answer your own question by searching RUclips.
@@allengordon41510 I would never search for Paris. I couldn't live with myself after that. I damn near worshipped X clan tho
Paris is garbage 🗑
As a lyricist myself from Sacramento California. I got mad love for Redman because of his rap style and also Brother J for his conscious content. I think we need both in Hip Hop. Redman is a serious punchline and metaphor genius and Brother J is an incredible spiritual and black awareness MC. I respect both Redman and Brother J for being amazing artist with amazing skills. Two different styles of rap with two different fan bases that will inspire people all over the world even in this day and age. Salute to Brother J for his knowledge and wisdom i still play X Clan like it came out yesterday. Yessuh!
Redman always came to do his thing on other ppl tracks and his own shit..he never disappointed me
Indeed, Big H. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Muddy waters will always be in my top 5 favorite Hip hop albums
We hear you, Dhoruba Bin Wahad. Check out the #BestAlbums episode Ras Kass did on "Muddy Waters." Here's the link, ruclips.net/video/CBZLswZSSqE/видео.html. Let us know what you think. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
I'm good with Redman , X-Clan was ok, too - no big deal.
Redman has 3 classic albums first 3 then the first blackout album That's it.
Redman is my favorite rapper from the east coast I got all his albums
Redman is a legend, he had several hits so to speak on various albums and always got respect from some mainstream heads and underground heads. I think he was well respected and taken serious as am mc.
Indeed, Sean Cagney. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
I agree
I agree like he can speak on him
Of course he is ... but it's no big deal - there's always some beef or nitpick people have.
We need more Brother J's around the youth.
Nah
Redman is 1 of the greatest Mcs of all times an still rockin shit an his stage performance is 1 of the very best he had the East Coast on his back back in 92 people understand that shit 🎤
FACTS.
Nah,in all sincerity Redman's catalog is like gold/platinum on almost all of his solo projects and you must remember how many rappers not only mimicked his his lyrics and sound but also his cadences Millions take Redman seriously!
Redman definitely has a lot of great material, mont diamonds. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Redman is in my top 5. Absolute beast!!!
He's a great one, Mason Brickstone. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
He might not be heralded as a GOAT but DOC is very much universally respected and admired... also a dope spirit and always showin love to fans reason why his legacy will continue to be relevant with time...
mellOSIX2, we hear you. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Redman is a GOAT. When Em dropped him as being in his original top 10, it was sealed; Him and 3k. Redman never got the money and game combo we expect from a star of his caliber, but he's very much understood as a pen
He a goat... None the less
@mike dollars bruh, he's underrated because a lot of niggas associate him with weed rap... He's in Eminem's top 10 ever, and I'm the top 5. Red is more than respected, even without the sales. Numbers are indicative of the hustle, not the talent, and thus Red never got huge success... But he's definitely in a lot of goat convos. I can make better argument for him over Pac if we're splitting hairs overall content. Cadence, punchlines, wordplay, beat selection, etc... Y'all goat convos don't have enough elements if u think Noble isn't discussed at those tables, even if he never takes the trophy.
@mike dollars goat convos.... Ur a fan. Pretty sure u think Pac is the goat lol, but u miss the point OVERALL. No real purist has goat convos, and doesn't acknowledge all aspects. Nobody in the goat talks ends as the goat, but 1, so all the ppl u suggest fall short. The fact that u couldn't comprehend what was said the 1st time killed my buzz. Good day, sir.
Redman is hip hop royalty!!!
Agreed, Collin Smith. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Soren, you're one of the greatest interviewers in hip-hop, appreciate the content. This channel is like the new Rap City.
He dead wrong. Cuz when u hear rappers like redman on other features, as a fan u cant wait til they drop a solo cuz u already know how nice they are
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, 25redinc.
RIDICULOUSLY FUCKIN WRONG.FUCKIN STUPID SMH.....
Ur wrong to a degree.... Ur talking about in general. He's talking about Red, specifically. Redman has ONE platinum album ..it took awhile to go that, and is only 5 or 10k over 1M. As a fan, it's hard to see the business side, but when this kinda shit gets said take heed. I'm a Source, Vibe, Xxl, Blaze magazine baby.... I remember the Source having an article, and it mentioned the reason Redman wasn't dressed thematically in the "oooh" video by De La Soul.... Smh I'm old
Brother J dropping jewels.
Agreed, Henry Featherstone. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
@@UniqueAccessEnt from one marylander to another👍
I wish more ppl got behind Xclan. I use to rock their cd everyday! Wore that thing out! Had to buy another one lol
Same here
You ain't lying!
Redman is top shelf and in his own category similar to MF Doom. no one can do what he does. .. like he does or as good as he does what he does. He's humorous, lyrical, raw, makes his own beats and.. just is a top shelf showman.
We hear you, EFH. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
I AM REMEMBERING THAT SONG BY DJ HONDA AND REDMAN. DOPE. REDMAN KEPT DEF JAMS LIGHTS ON IN THE LATE 90'S EARLY 2000'S. AND, HE WAS UP AGAINST THE MACHINE. THE WEST COAST. AND HE'S TOP 20 OR 10 THAT STILL SOUND FRESH ( 🎶MADE IN AMERICA ), AND BEEN RAPPIN AND KILLIN RECORDS SENSE THE LATE 80'S TILL NOW. RESPECT THIS MAN.
( Redman - Black Man In America ft. Pressure ) FLAME'S
I'm disagreeing with a few of his statements. Especially the Redman comment. Redman has classic solo songs. A solo catalogue way bigger than Brother J's. I bet if you ask an average Hip Hopper to name a brother J song they will give you a song from "To The East, Blackwards". But Redman has hits on his solo albums.
Yoooo DJ Bokks. Peace brother. It's Mal from Boston. Been a super minute.
But he ain’t sayin nothin, I think was his point.
They both nice
How you gonna disrespect REDMAN and think your gonna just slide with that comment? Yea i grew up on dude but it’s an AUTOMATIC FUCK YOU when you talk down on Reggie Noble.
@@mpmi7588 Peace King!
I definitely see the angle where he was coming from, but peers not taking Redman seriously, is a huge error. If anything, when you have a huge amount of guest appearances in a career, that's actually a COMPLIMENT that people admire your work & rock with you!!!
We hear you, Omar Branch. But, we don't think that was Brother J's point. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
rightly acknowledged bro j referral was no respect from the industry
Of course they do ... this is more of a cultural differential between styles and messaging and thats understandable.
Y’all coming at J like he’s going at Red I don’t think he was saying anything negative on his side
Dope interview, that Redman comment was waaay left field. I bought damn near the whole Redman catalog and I’m super satisfied
We're glad you enjoyed the interview, Alfred Hoffa. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
When I listen to Xclan, I close my eyes and visualize what is being said, the words' meaning and then the music.
We hear you, Darkness. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
This interviewer was excellent he posed the questions then sat back and allowed the answers to flow, which is hard to do when you are knowledgeable and want to interject. When dealing with icons its best to just let the story tell itself, as a fan we get to soak up good game!
Much love & respect to you both Brother J & Mr. Baker
I'm feeling brother J positivity
And I feel him when he says collaboration has to be a purpose
Would love to hear him and KRS1 do something together
That would be an ideal collaboration, Mike Gillins. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.

Dare ls a darkside is also classic like the hit rockafella
Awesome interview with a legend! The thing with some of the timeless music that was made in the golden era. It was more about being exclusive instead of inclusive. Classic music is and can still be made but it’s more so about originality, message/theme and of course paying homage. We should celebrate the artists that paved the way. I think that’s what always made hip hop special and different from other genres. Peace and love y’all!
We're glad you enjoyed the interview, Mark Graves. Brother J was dropping gems. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
I know these brothers for a long time God bless each one of them even the one that passed away
Factz on artist doing features...this cat spittin real gems.....

LITERALLY!🤘🏽🔥💯
BROTHER J knows his stuff. 💯💯💯
Stop playing - Redman. Is. A. Monster! But it's still really right and only right how Brother J's energy on paper matches his aura in person. Unforgettable interview, thank you thank you!
Brother J!! I LOVE X CLAN!! Those brothas were cold back in the day and still are. All positive, conscious rap.
All day, rpaul247. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Brother J I’ve never heard of you. But I’ve been rocking with Redman since ‘93. He never lets me down and is known world wide. Too many bars
Wow! You've never heard of X-Clan?
X Clan yall inspired me back in the 90s I still listen Verbal lessen man I know most of the album. Brother J yo lyrics on point we need you Krs1 Chuck D we need it back our generation is blind and deaf when comes to real life Sholum my brother

I’ve always said “To the East Blackwards” was the best album of all time! I’m jus sayin. Glad more people can get exposed to Bro J! #RIPProfessorX
Yep but don't sleep on the " xodus" album though
That album is "Sacred"!!!! Even the album cover is stoopid!!!!
I'm glad that artists continue to progress, Redman legacy is continual and Soren Baker also illustrates gangster rap as well .. so its no big deal.
@The original man Xodus is dope as hell!
He's basically saying that Funk doc was dope but allowed his aura to be diluted by being a ubiquitous presence on various scenes w/ pretty much anyone. It's a compliment but also a question of judgement career wise.
Agreed with some of his points but People not taking Redman seriously? Are we talking about the same Redman? What Redman is he talking about? Certainly not Funk Doc! No Hip hop head got exhausted listening to his style, especially on his own stuff, album, singles etc! Infact it would make Hedz more eager for his upcoming music! Redman in my view is one of the best Hip hop lyricists of all time!
Everything Brother J explained made perfect sense. Back in the day, we were wondering why he really didn’t make appearances on other people’s records. He summed it up perfectly. Great interview
Just saw Red getting it in at the Park. True respect to that man!
Nice, Honest T. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Totally disagree with the Redman statement.if you’re talking about features watering down your worth you should be talking about Busta Rhymes he’s a perfect example of that
Interesting, Big Boom. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
Red man has plenty of collaborations please? Especially with method man back in the days. Hit squad
This is more a beef over styles of music accompanying hip hop ... I understand Brother J's concerns.

Is that Brother J featured on "Mean Green" by Tone Lōc?

REDMAN has and always will be a respected leader in hip hop. Hes one of the pioneers of this shxt. BROTHER J is honestly an "unknown" compared to Redman, who is a "household name" at this point in his career, and actually has been for a long time. Red is even respected as a GOAT be most "credible" rappers in the industry. i know Brother J is a pioneer as well, BUT STOP IT! that was a silly comment coming from a brother who ain't even been popping like that in YEARS, meanwhile the name Redman still be on everybody lips.
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, World AccumElites.
Agree & disagree about the Redman statement. Great interview 👍
We're glad you enjoyed the interview, Derrick Mallory. Thanks as always for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Excellent interview! PEACE 7
shit, he's so right about featuring. i used to do a lot of feat. as an mc for everyone , then i realised they re just wanted me to make ther projects cooler , having a french mc used to be very popular back in the days. Then they would never call me back to work on my project...well, still helped to be on people's record but I ended up doing my own album asking artists to feature on it...it worked out great ! guess you must go to these different phases o grow as an artist...
I'm confused just a little. Does he have an album out or is it coming out?
Brother J is working on several projects & has "The Red Pill" concert series, MP MI. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.

i think he means consumers not taken red serious.. there is no question that his peers take him serious.
For sure, first dun. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
I hear what Brother J is saying but the title is a bit clickbait-ish. I think Brother J is saying that people don't take Redman *as seriously as* they should given Redman's talent level, not that "people don't take Redman seriously at all." I understand his point because doing a ton of features does water down your unique artistic vibe. I always hated seeing tons of features on an album. It's BEEN corny. The greatest rappers weren't doing songs with everybody. a) it gets boring b) all you're doing is propping up wack n*ggas.
Just look at Ludacris and Eminem. Those are the 2 prime examples of Redman's influence. Both of them use the same setup rhyme style. Real hip hop heads know!!
Interesting, Manny DeRosa. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.

Facts vs opinions. Redman is a blueprint for how to live life. He never sold out musically by making ANYTHING radio friendly.....even though he could have easily done that. He STILL did very well for himself, is INDEED respected for the legend that he is....and most importantly, is an extremely content/happy individual.
