Sir Ian, your channel is THE BEST! Every time you upload, I know I'll have my mind blown with amazing info! The way you make Blender more user friendly, fun, not to mention faster, by teaching good modeling techniques is simply put - art. I'm a big, big fan, and I hope you don't stop making videos and sharing them! If you ever have a course available, I'm pretty sure I'll be the first in line to support it! Cheers, sir Ian!
I have a new-found respect for Inset. Other discussions 'on the RUclipss' never gave me the 'aha' connection with me that it's a tool for managing flow or a good way to move problematic poles out (using the Outsetting option) to less curved regions of the mesh to avoid issues. Manual knife cuts seemed to be for that and Inset was mostly for getting things ready for an extrude.
I just looked at it again. This is not only an amazing tutorial on topology, but in a way one of the best tutorials on cloth/softbody simulation, since it is almost the only tutorial I have seen that gives a hint on the range you can use to play with the main parameters. I would LOVE to see specific tutorials on phisics simulations by you (and I am sure I would not be alone...)
Every time we watch your video we learn something new but the way you explain makes things looks very easy. Your teaching skill and knowledge is awesome.
Cheers sudipto. I am trying to show just the things you need to make almost everything. There are so many methods to do almost everything but there is always an optimal solution! Really glad you like them.
Man that outset option is an incredible discovery Just goes to show with enough time you find all kinds of methods to make a proper mesh without compromise
Dude, you are absolutely brilliant. Your instruction is a pleasure to listen to and easy to follow. I am not overflowing with cash nor am I scint, hoping I can help. Keep up the great work.
can't understand how this channel has only 2680 subs... he explains SO well everything with ease.. if I don't see the sub nums, i'd think that this channel is as big as ducky 3d and others alike
you remind me of David Brinnen.(Wings 3d) you have his style and way of imparting knowledge, ive learned more about blender from two of your videos compared to the countless 'tutorials I've watched on RUclips.
We had to wait some time for your new video, but it was worth it! Almost 27 minutes of marvelous knowledge! Animation settings look quite hard to do it well (like those range 10000 in Structural option - from where someone should know that kind of number at all? :) ) But for me that "outset tool" trick is another "So obvious" thing when you watching when you do it but so unobvious to do by myself when I modeling. That should help me a lot in my modeling journey :) Thank you for that video and like always, post more! (and more often ;) )
Yeah the delay is a problem. I love making them so much but I have to work outside of this so sometimes they take a little longer. I'll try to increase the pace!
Thank you for this teaching and tutorial! Where has this information been? I’ve been using Blender for so long and have never heard this clear topology information, such as your description of 5-spoke poles. It’s fixing my approach, and I’m seeing my errors better. Other teachers are emphatically telling everyone to primarily use booleans, bevel mods, and normal weight. My suggestion is that this could be two separate lessons, with findable titles or keyword descriptions. I’ve been looking for info on topology and poles, and didn’t know this video would address that so well. Thank you!
You know someone knows their stuff when they use hex codes to input a color hahah. I just found your videos today and have been binging them. You clearly know what you're talking about, so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. There's a lot of Blender content on RUclips, but not much from qualified individuals such as yourself. I consider myself lucky to have found your channel so early in my Blender journey. One quick question: throughout your videos you’ve spoken about the importance of insetting before extruding, but at 5:25 you extruded without insetting. How come? I’m trying to understand when it’s necessary to inset and when it can be skipped. All the best to you!
Quick question, is it possible to randomize the object's falling speed when all of them already combined as one? Echoing the rest.. sooo much gems shared! You sire are a treasure to blender community like david attenborough to the wildlife.
The size of them is 4Meters. When I try to make it like 5 cm's, the simulation is completely wrong. Is there a way to change the size and not mess up the simulation?
Boom! Fabulous stuff... I'm off to play with the cloth simulator as a soft-body simulator which is something that, whilst you suggest other people are up to (and I'm sure you're right), I hadn't even thought of. Plus... I'd already checked that tickbox for GPU subdivision but I had not thought through why it was so damned useful... now I know. Particularly impressed at the speed of Eevee in real time when the cache is baked... really useful for creatives... Blender blows my head regularly nowadays. My only major wish for Blender right now is better autocomplete and related highlighting and refactoring tools for Python... and I think I'd prefer to use type hints, too, but... ah, well, I digress. Another bloody excellent video. Keep up the good work.
Thank you V42. Playing with cloth is great fun. I can lose entire days just messing around with it! I certainly agree about Python. I am sure they are working on it!
No RUclips channel is complete without having some sort of catchphrase. I think yours is: "We can delete all of this, it's rubbish." I can see it written on a t-shirt, next to a bad topology model. 😄
Ian, you seriously need to find a way to make the titles and thumbnails of your videos more clickbait-y:) It's a crime that so few people watch your tutorials!

Thanks Fabrizio - Once I get the Chess Set subdivision surface series finished I am planning to do a series on simulation!

I agree. I still stumble across new techniques and I've been at it for over 20 years!

Hi Ianzlocz. Thank you so much. Your support really means a lot! I will be uploading more soon. Cheers. Ian.
@@ianmcglasham Thank you Ian, I am looking forward to your horse, good luck.

Brilliant! Just when I thought your Inset tool lifesaving tip was genius then it’s opposite twin Outset make an appearance. SoftJellyTopoRific!
I wish I had called the video SoftJellyTopoRific!
Thanks for adding more wrinkles to my brain. Here's a sub.
Ha. Cheers Max Level Adventures! Really glad you liked it.
Wow! Blown away as always.
Thank you for sharing the wisdom. 🙏
Thanks FL. Really means a lot to hear it. Cheers.
Thank you so much for the video! I learned a lot as always!
Thank you tutorials!
Top tier content every time! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with all of us.
Cheers Dröttningu. Ive got some really good ones coming up!
Love these videos!
Extraordinary tutorial as usual!
Cheers Fabrizio!

In Blender 4.2, where is the GPU Subdivision option? 17:06
Hi Shane. It is in: Edit -> Preferences -> Viewport -> Subdivision ( at the bottom of the page.) Cheers! Ian.

Ha. Yes. It's something I say out loud to myself all the time when I make bad models!!
