    Hi there, I just wanted to say, I have never done Tunisian crochet before, I found it quite intimidating to approach as a technique but I took a gamble and bought the written off Etsy because the pattern looked sensational and I'm so pleased I did, your instructions are so simple to understand and concise and now I'm hooked (excuse the pun!). I do have one question though, if I were to make it larger than the pattern provided, say, double the size, how would I continue? As I started to try going a few more rounds spacing the increases accordingly but it started to lose it's flat shape?
    Thank you again! 😊

    • @HookloopsarahCrochet
      @HookloopsarahCrochet  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tiffany, I'm so glad to hear that! Yes, if you want to make it larger, you just continue with the increase pattern. It is strange that the rug does not stay flat, it usually curls at the beginning and flattens out with its own weight. You could try some blocking afterwards. It also depends on the yarn you're using, and if the problem persists, you could try going up a hook size. 😊

    I am working on spiral technique for the first time and your video is brilliant. Thank you for making it so clear. I see from a recent comment that you explain what to do if continuing on and Yay! I understand how to increase to make a circle so I use that technique for this spiral work. However I need to understand how to decrease slowly at the end, reducing from 6 loops. I understand the decreases can't occur at each row. How many rows would you work inbetween each decrease, and how many edge stitches would you work into? eg.It is confusing when we talk stitches and rows with spiral, so I will refer to the stitch around the edge as the edge stitch ES. My thought is first decrease to 5 into ES one, followed by another row into the same ES. Would I then decrease to 4 in the next ES or work 2 more into that one and decrease at the 3rd ES which is the 5th row? Or would that depend on what I worked in the last round. If I worked 2 into every 2nd stitch on the last round I would decrease first row, 2nd row in same ES, then one row only in 2nd ES. Then repeat. No sorry I am only getting myself confused.

    • @HookloopsarahCrochet
      @HookloopsarahCrochet  2 года назад +1

      There's a written pattern with the instructions 😊. Maybe it would be a good idea for me to make a video on the decrease part only... 🤔

  • @texastina66

    You said each row after you do two in each... that makes it ruffled, not flat. All other directions I've found say after the row of 2 in each you switch to alternating 2 and 1, the next row you do 2 , 1, 1... the next row 2, 1, 1, 1.. next 2, 1, 1, 1, 1... and so on that that each row has 24 extra stitches.

    • @HookloopsarahCrochet
      @HookloopsarahCrochet  2 года назад

      Exactly as you say, Tina. I must listen closely to what I said in the video, but what you describe is the correct procedure - which is also the standard rule for increasing when working a circle to make it flat. 🙂

    • @texastina66
      @texastina66 2 года назад

    What do you mean adding short rows to the border stitch? I wish you would've demonstrated more because your spiral was looking very unbalanced like you need to add stitches to the right edge to get it to be more even as it was curving upwards in the middle of the row.. is there more videos that show you working the rest of it??

      Hi Byron! I used a 50% wool / 50% acrylic yarn called "Ambiente" by ICE Yarns. It's a number 5 yarn, usually worked with a 6 mm sized hook, but I always use bigger hook sizes in Tunisian crochet. • @HookloopsarahCrochet
      @HookloopsarahCrochet  4 года назад +2

      No. Just like increasing in regular crochet, you progressively space out increases round after round. So after working 2 rows in each side st (doubling the total number of rows), you will work 2 rows every 2 sts; then every 3 sts in the following row, then every 4 sts in the next, and so on. Check the link in description for my written pattern 😉.

      @@briannconn2552 That's typical. It is ok if it curls a bit at the beginning, but it should flatten out after some rounds (there are some pictures in my listing showing this). If it doesn't, yes, you should try go up a hook size or maybe even change the yarn (acrylic and stretchy yarn tends to curl much more than cotton or wool). Let me know if it helps! 💜
